Caravan question

Can you move the base city of a caravan to a city of yours on another continent?
I have not tried this yet as my first game was pangea. I am thinking in my current game, on a continents map, that once I find the other landmass, I may need to establish a city there to increase trade with the other side...also hoping my culture will grow on them because of that....
Just did not know if the ocean blocked this movement or not.

Yes. It automatically appears in the city and is available to trading in the very next turn
