drill I as promo gives literally nothing... it's D II and then D IV what it's about ;-) (so cover for the combat ones and not the drill ones)

right now not sure how it works with experience if drill is better or combat...hmm i vaguely remember that if you have too big of power you get only 1 exp... so maaaaybeee the drill ones will exp a little bit quicker.

you will see ;-)

Okay, I've played about 13 turns and took 4 cities. I figured this was a good time to stop since we need a turn or 2 to heal and probably should do a 1 turn ceasefire, so I don't want to overstay my welcome. I tried to press the attack as fast as possible, but it is slow going despite universal success.

Let's start a war:

Spoiler :

Fred trade #1 - he'd get maths soon anyway:

Spoiler :

Nap trade from PH - simply and effective:

Spoiler :

Boston Baked Beans (Potential NE city?....or Washington):

Spoiler :

Fred Trade #2:

Spoiler :

Thinking with this one is that a) I was getting Monarch from someone b) Fred seemed logical due to his relationship or lack of with others c) He was obviously teching Construction since he would not give Monarch straight up, so I pulled the trigger on IW - we do need it to get rid of jungles now anyway. d) Fred's a pushover anyway. e) I did not want to give Constr to Zara for fear he would give it to Roos

HR switch - this was quite timely to grow our unhappy cap. Yeah we'd get Mids in the near future, but we can't run lots of specialists yet anyway:

Spoiler :

All that trading led to a something I did not expect. CoL in 4 turns and this nice little surprise:

Spoiler :

"Start Spreading the News" (anyone get that reference?):

Old America:

The Sids:

Summary:

1) So I had a light bulb when first starting. Myst is often an easy beg tech. I begged it off Zara which not only gives a nice little Peace Treaty for comfort, but set off a nice trade frenzy that got us Monarchy in a couple of turns..and CoL/Conf

2) Each city fell easily. Only lost of couple of cats. I forked our large stack after Washington to attack New York and Atlanta simultaneously. I chose Atlanta over Philly as I felt the gems were more important in the short term (and Atlanta is my hometown ;)...nah that had nothing to do with it).

3) We're starting to get some experienced archers. A few Cover Archers and some Drill II Archers. Both do quite well.

4) We have a GG and a scout near him ready to be upgraded.

5) Note the trapped worker near Atlanta. I already stole one with a cat, and then moved a couple of units to hopefully trap him. Roos has closed borders with Ottos.

So, I think we need only a turn or 2 of healing. Take a ceasefire next turn after hopefully capturing the worker. It will also push out those pesky archers near Boston and New York. (Roos is building tons of archers very fast)

I say we just take Roos out completely. Chicago is marginal, but it may set us up for taking that barb city up north and controlling that peninsula. We definitely want Philly. We could possibly liberate Seattle to Vicky for some diplo...it's crap.

We have Calendar, so we can improve those Silks near Cherokee, and the bananas down south....well, when we kick out the Yanks

I got up some good infra here and there along the way. Gold city is size 2 but now has a Gran

great progress so far... you plan to play further or will I be up?

going to bed soonish, so i will make some PPP tomorrow if you're giving away...

I might as well pass it on. It'll take several turns to finish the war. Next TS will be finishing off Roos and setting up for Ottos. Maybe we'll have Feud by then.

oh..and V...I've been editing my report a lot

....I'm pretty amazed how well we've teched this game.

ok i had some time to open the save...

As I see it it really is good time to take cease fire (not peace treaty!) right now.

We could switch into rep+OR and Budhism would be great choice if the Ottomans is the plan

There will be some very bad cultural pressure on our new core from Zara

We will need some CH's eventually, but I think it's time until new cities come out of revolt to look a bit better on eco.

I think I would queue up barracks in washington instead of cats and OF it into archer since it seems like we have cats for philly, but not so much archers there

Taking Chigaco will open the barb city for taking maybe as distraction befor Sully

All AI's except Roosy can tech LB's which is a bit unwelcome but expected

Other then that plan should be cease, 2 turns of healing, DoW and take 3 Roos cities hopefully.

Not sure with whipping our old core... and not sure with the granary in boston... 3 turns for growing up feels too long ;-)

edit:

ooh there is some clams spot near our capital to settle too, but that probably can wait ;-)

Yep, definitely ceasefire. We can attack again asap, don't even need full healing on everything. Make sure you nab that worker first...don't ceasefire this turn.

I do think we eventually want to be in Bud and OR, but I think we can wait on Rep and the switch in general until Boston and Washington are setup better. Rep is nice, but I don't see it as immediately necessary until we get new cities growing. Wash and Boston will be great from running specialists.

I actually really like the Gran build in Boston. Should time nicely with a 2 pop whip at next growth point. This is a good food city that will benefit greatly from it. I already whipped a Monastery there for culture and have an archer in process. We really have no urgent need for units.

The barracks whip in Washington sounds fine to me. Cat was pretty much a placeholder as the city just came out of revolt. Boston and Wash will also be good frontline unit producers.

I agree about our core cities. Not much whipping needed there. Fish City can get out Archer really fast now.

I'm not to worried about Zara's culture. We'll overcome it shortly. Whip Monasteries now and later Libraries.

that worker has escape path into that flood plains farm which i can't reach next turn and not sure if i want to allow roosy another whip turn which he will probably use.
We will pick that worker up later if we take Roos all out...not afraid at all about this.

I didn't saw the defense you met, but since I see 3 archers next to Wash the philly will be guarded by at least 5 archers, we have 3 in wash and 1 should be MP...
I don't plan to merge the 2 stacks you split.

I saw 1 archer+1 cat on the way between cap and Boston which is fine, but I would like to get 2 archers from Boston+Wash.
That archer build offers 17H OF into granary for meager cost of 1 pop a lot under the happy cap with 2 strong food tiles...not sure why you strongely oppose that ;-)

Will not switch anything (civics, religion) since we still need the production and 2 turns are too much. Just what I saw for the future.

Zara with his UB is monster :-( we will take him out eventually though, I am sure ;-)

Because we simply don't need the units (I placed that archer in earlier as an emergency whip). Keep in mind that cats do most of the work...don't underestimate their power at this stage, even on defense. Roos is toast any way you look at it no matter how many archers he has. I don't care what he produces this turn. His production is now severely limited.

We can pull a unit out of NY to catch the worker if he moves to the FP. AIs sometimes do some funky things with worker movements. Pretty much his only choice puts him in our path. The sooner we have that worker the better.

These vagabond shoes - yeah, got the reference. :p

Very good job! I think this may turn out a very easy game... Getting Philly for the GLH may be a nice bonus. If we then take Edirne and Istanbul the only question left will be whether Napoleon will put up any serious fight.

Great turnset again. This feels way too easy to be honest. But I don't mind :) Lol at the New York quote.

About the war. Cease fire sounds good but I guess we do need some extra archers based on Vranasms analysis. We are going to get all American cities right? I so loathe the "we yearn for our motherland" unhappiness.

Oh well didn't look like there will be more responses, so I went and played according to plans laid out by L and me.

I opened the game with this resource trade
Spoiler :

Nappy is worst enemy of Vicky which is a bit problematic, but hopefully we can solve this by adopting Bud eventually

Didn't take cease fire yet and pressed ET

We got the worker as L suggested
Spoiler :

and then decided to take some of those 3 archers near wash before ceasing
Spoiler :

And then ceasing
Spoiler :

It wasn't the absolutely best point for whipping that granary (which I sped up a bit with growing on bananas instead of cows), but good enough imo
Spoiler :

our army is prepared to DoW next turn
Spoiler :

Roosy has cats and 4 archers in philly...
Spoiler :

well lets hope we have enough

Chicago size 2
Spoiler :

should allow capture

really love losing cats on 92% odds :-(
Spoiler :

now should be mock up with archers

I will hold it since there is rice shared with Sully which we will capture „soon“
Spoiler :

Feud in 5 with -121 gpt and 466 gold spared...I decide to burn the money a bit
Spoiler :

Sully built Parthenon some time ago and popped GP
Spoiler :

scouting his defense ofc

we pick up yet another worker ;-)
Spoiler :

4 archers + 1 catapult, gulp
Spoiler :

flawless victory
Spoiler :

, but not enough archers so I expect to face 1 archer+1 injured cat next turn
Spoiler :

Roos was so nice not to whip Philly ;-) that one should be easy
Spoiler :

We have unlocked HE
Spoiler :

We got a demand for tech... well I obeyed, didn't want to have too complicated game
Spoiler :

And another one from Zara
Spoiler :

after checking the tech screen I decided to obey too
Hmm was too lazy to check each turn, so not sure at what point Vicky got Feud :-( sorry for that team.
She got
Spoiler :

We got the feudalism
Spoiler :

I tentatively prequeued MC

Kebab, Rice and fish city were switched into wealth since it's 8 turns to bring them to borders of Ottomans and we could use the money

We got hindu spread
Spoiler :

final battle in final turn of my TS
Spoiler :

And I took final city of Roos
Spoiler :

I gambled on the barb city with 1 archer against 1 warrior and didn't won :-( hopefully there is no AI in the fog

Sorry for the length of TS (was around 12 turns), but felt like finishing the war with Roos

We can liberate the Seattle
Spoiler :

Well that's it from me...totally exhausted

sorry for the SS's in the middle of report...got mixed up a bit, but not sure how should i fix this ;-) I obviously didn't took some SS's I thought I did when writing report.

there is couple of signs around sully land marking the number of archers

WE GOT GG IN KEBAB CITY! I forgot to mention... but there is sign above the city.

[Huge crosspost with vranasm's report!]

Chiming in with a late "well done lymond"! Excellent thought on Mysticism beg. :goodjob:

[Edit] (Deleted remaining post - now irrelevant.) [/Edit]

Ah sorry for that... played a bit sooner then announced, but felt like there is not much to add (which is a bit contradicting your point about having huge post).

I hope i didn't make too many mistakes you would dislike after seeing the save.

I brought the Roos cities home and hopefully the barb city (I really regret that gamble right now :-().

We have some massive numbers of army with 23 cats and 23 archers.
Wash+NY have ongoing some OF into LB's, but I wouldn't wait for them and just flood Sully now.

The stack in Chicago should have medic and need 1t to heal if I remember right (not sure with the movement though)

looking at the save after a few minutes of free mind... i really think we should slowly start to readjust flood plain cottages back into the capital.

Would start to take them from kebab city which has library to employ citizens.

Nappy offers Incense...another easy happy for silk and we can trade for fish from Freddy with another silk or something.

It looks weird since we have fish ourselfs, but we trade it away for wine (that wine near Seattle we give to vicky with liberating)

crossing fingers that sully goes something useless and not Feud right now (music comes to mind, he has open it)

Thanks vranasm for your turnset - no problem re. a few extra turns to annihilate Roosevelt. :D

(By 'huge crosspost' I meant it was a crosspost at an unfortunate time, not that the post itself was huge in length).

Eight turns of peace with Ethiopia gives us plenty of room to crank out some Longbows and set up our invasion. Interested to hear others' thoughts on which order to hit Ethiopian cities.

Agree on Cherokee getting back the Cottages ... I'd even go so far to suggest a Market could be good there!

^^ nothing against market, it's obvious choice for such commerce, it will just take some time to build

I thought next target is Ottomans with their shinies!! - Hindu shrine + Parthenon

Oh - righty-o then! Sorry - thought Ethiopian invasion was on the cards. Hitting the Ottomans would make lymond's proposed switch into Buddhism far more palatable therefore. :)

Hah, again another beautifull turnset. Impressive. Just had a look at the save and we are in a good state. Following remarks:
1) Civic switch: representation and OR looks good although it will cost us 6 gpt.
2) If we are going to switch then building the monasteries in the capital may not be a bad idea (20% extra to our only source of research doesn't sound to bad :p)
3) I vote for New York for HE city. It has a nice production capacity and is in the middle of the land.
4) I would liberate Seattle. It is a totally useless city but we gain a lot of diplo points from Vicky for it. The only things going for Seattle are the trade routes and the wine, but meh.
5) Next target: Damn, the Ottomen are wonderwhoring. Edirne and Istanbull are good to pass up on but we might invoke Napoleons wrath. If we take out Zara first we will have only 1 border to protect and we will get rid of the cultural pressure. We can hit 3 cities of him 2 turns after declaring. Might need some discussing.

Great turnset again Vranasm. That means I am up next. Feedback time. Rofl, to many posts from Cam and Vran in the time I was typing this and checking the save game :p

you should take on Sully, every military is heading towards Chicago and we should just stomp him

Zara, Freddy can't be bribed.

We can regenotiate the resource trades with Nappy making us look better and I didn't beg of him yet...

maybe some OB, trade tech would bring him up to pleased and...
