Beyond Sid

What we really need is a thread purely for working out how to make the AI better.

This would be gold for the programmers at Firaxis. I bet they could really use as much as help as they could to fix Civ's AI once and for all.

And I know, you can't perfect an AI. But come on, we can programme a computer to be virtually impossible to beat at Chess, why can't we with Civ? :D

Because it would make a millionaire out of Soren Johnson alone? :D

Meanwhile, back to the game... ;)

The patience required to do this is beyond my ability to understand.

Impressive, of course.

2009 (continued)-
Bombard smaller stack and get riflemen to 1 hp, all but 9 pikemen to 1 hp, medieval infantry to 3 hp. Use vets against the 2 hp pikemen and the medieval infantry, and use elites vs. the 1 hp pikemen. Used 50 elites this turn.

Kill:
106 pikemen
60 medieval infantry
3 riflemen
1 longbowman
lose 10 riflemen
generate 5 leaders

IBT-Kill:
26 knights
98 medieval infantry
7 archers
24 longbowmen
8 riflemen
7 horsemen
31 knights and 9 horsemen retreated
Lose 3 riflemen
Generate 1 leader

2010-Still 250+ units on the one tile, and now 108 units on the other tile.
Bombard the smaller stack all to 1 hp and then have 75 cannons left over. Use the 75 cannons to bombard a stack of 42 units in Celt territory (mostly units that were retreating), getting the units with a defense of 3 or more down to 1 hp, and units with defense of 2 to 2-3 hp. Used 101 elites this turn.

Kill:
114 pikemen
18 medieval infantry
3 riflemen
6 longbowmen
1 spearman
2 archers
2 knights
lose 7 riflemen
generate 7 leaders.

IBT-Kill:
17 knights
69 medieval infantry
5 archers
24 longbowmen
7 riflemen
7 horsemen
22 knights and 3 horsemen retreated
lose 2 riflemen and 1 riflemen army

2011-The tile that had always had 250+ units on it now has 75 units, the other tile has 78 units. Bombard both stacks to 1 hp and have 20 cannons left, so bombard a small stack of 6 pikemen in Celt territory, knocking them down to 2-3 hp. Use 97 elites this turn.

Kill:
102 pikemen
16 medieval infantry
13 riflemen
7 longbowmen
1 archer
22 knights
3 horsemen
lose 3 riflemen
Generate 11 leaders!

Claim the tile that previously always had 250+ units on it.

2012- 20 units on a tile in my territory, 77 units on a tile just outside my territory. Use 91 elites this turn. Bombard everything in sight to 1 hp and still have 117 cannons left over.

Kill:
45 pikemen
7 riflemen
18 knights
1 horseman
12 longbowmen
19 medieval infantry
1 archer
lose 4 riflemen
Generate 6 leaders.

Sign peace for the cities of:
Rutupiae
Monguntiacum
Nemausus
Glanum
Cataractonium
(I could have signed peace for a couple cities several turns ago, but didn't).

Investigate Entremont. They have exactly 100 units in Entremont (either healing, or teleported from the cities they gave up). Other than that, their military is pretty much non-existant.
Re-declare war.
Move excess cannons/riflemen towards Augustodurum (will capture it next turn).

Hmm...It sounds like ur gonna win in the next 2 years!!! I've one request: Couldja post screenies of the specs of the game? You know: Best cities, End game score, that whole warrior strong-man test rank...Congrats on a victory...Unless an alien comes down from the sky in civ and starts destroying France...

Give `em enough artillery and not even that would hurt this big pink giant...

I got a couple screenshots here.

This first one is about techs costs.

Then there is this funny/strange one:

This happened because the Celts landed 4 units on a continent where I only had 1 city, which was defended by only 1 rifleman and a cannon, so I abandoned the city. The colonies remained (but I didn't have access to them), so I got this message when they destroyed the colonies.

Geez! Wouldn't it be easier just to steal techs? I've only stolen once, so I don't know if costs fluctuate..

Definitely. 'Immediately' would cost 1686 gold, and 'safely' would cost 3,372.

The costs to steal techs increases during the game, by a little bit, but not in proportion to the actual tech costs of those later techs. On lower levels, stealing techs isn't very good until possibly late in the game for Modern Age techs. The higher up in level you go, the sooner it is better to steal than to buy.

This is the kind of game that makes Civ3 unforgettable!!! Bamspeedy, I'm looking forward to learn how many turns it'll take for you to finish the game!(I believe that you can "finish" them before 2050).

2013- 41 knights/horsemen move into my territory. Another 20 or so riflemen/pikemen are a couple tiles outside my territory (couldn't reach my territory because they had so far to go to get around my armies).
Kill 3 riflemen, 1 pikeman, 1 medieval infantry in Augustodurum, capturing it and 2 slaves.
Also kill 36 knights, 4 horsemen.

Split up my forces. Send 100 cannons, 50 riflemen at each of these cities: Entremont, Alesia, Camulodunum.

Ask what the Zulu want for Electricity. They originally ask for economics, World map and 99,170 gold!! Try stealing it safely for 3,372 gold each attempt (immediately would be 1686 gold). Succeed on the 4th attempt.

With max science I could get Replaceable parts in 38 turns.

2014-Bombard Entremont, but still 3-hp riflemen are left standing.

21 riflemen
3 knights

IBT-kill 1 longbowman

2024-Sign peace with Celts for theses cities:
Arausio
Lapurdum
Noviomagus
Axima

Re-declare war.

Celts land 1 medieval infantry, 2 knights and a riflemen by a city I had in America's former continent. Abandon the city to prevent Celts from getting it (only had 1 rifleman and 1 cannon in the city).

IBT-Celts destroy colonies on that continent and I get the message "Celts have destroyed our .... colony near NO CITY!...."
Kill 1 medieval infantry
2 knights
lose 1 riflemen and a cannon.

2025-zzz

Celts down to 1 city.
HOWEVER, the Zulu have re-settled their entire starting continent. They have 17 cities and I have 21 turns left......

IBT-kill 2 galleons

2030-Declare war on Zulu

Make those last 21 turns careful bamspeedy!

Sell buildings you don't need, buy units, do everything!!!

Sell buildings? Whatever for? He's got hundresds of thousands of gold.

O man! I just hope he wins before time runs oujt!

2030-Declare war on Zulu

Even though, the Zulu have re-settled their entire original continent, there is little culture in the cities and I had earlier railroaded everything, so this won't be too bad. When I first headed over there, only a couple cities had any culture expansion, but by the time I got there, nearly every one of them had their culture borders expanded once. Wasn't much of a problem, cause you can still come in from a diagonal and hit the city after 1 turn in their territory instead of 2.

IBT-Kill 6 cavalry
6 cavalry retreated.
They tried taking Hlobane, the only city I have on the Zulu continent, which had 4 riflemen and a cannon in it.

2031-Capture Isandhlwana, 4 workers
Kill 5 riflemen
lose 3 riflemen

IBT-Kill 4 cavalry
1 cavalry retreated.

2032-Kill 1 cavalry
1 rifleman

Capture Intombe,
killing 2 riflemen
1 longbowman and at least 1 galleon

2033-Capture Isipezi, 1 catapult
Kill 2 riflemen
lose 1 riflemen

Raze New Zimbabwe
Kill 2 riflemen
Generate 1 leader

Capture New Ulundi
Kill 4 riflemen
2 longbowmen

IBT-Kill 4 cavalry

Kill 4 riflemen
1 longbowmen
1 AI great Leader
at least 1 galleon
Lose 9 riflemen (no cannon support)

IBT-Kill 5 cavalry
3 cavalry retreated

2035-Capture Ulundi, 8 workers
Kill 2 riflemen
6 cavalry (I guess this is where they ran to, to heal)

Capture Ubabanago
Kill 2 riflemen
1 cavalry

Now with where the cities were built, culture expansions, and rails, I can split my forces 4 ways, hitting 3 cities in the next turn and another city the next turn. I also have an invasion force in the north that landed and will capture a city next turn.

IBT-Kill 1 cavalry

Zulu are still alive? Darn settler on a boat....

Start attacking a couple Zulu galleons I had surrounded.
Kill 2 galleons
lose 2 galleons
still no settler.

Look around some more and see a frigate guarding 2 galleons and another galleon nearby.
Kill 1 galleon
lose 2 galleons.
Send a stack of 50 galleons after those Zulu ships!

Raze Durocortorum (Celts)
Kill 3 riflemen
3 knights
lose 4 riflemen

IBT-Kill: (Celts)
1 rifleman
1 medieval infantry
1 longbowman
1 caravel
lose 2 riflemen

Zulu settle Mpondo on the Celt continent. Is that their last settler?

:nono: Don't count me out yet! The game isn't over until Catherine sings! I still have 12 turns to go, that's plenty of time I hope.

I'll make more time, I'll give the calender-maker the :ninja: if he doesn't give me more time!
What, you say I can't bribe the calender-maker even with all this money?:cringe:

:jesus: Pray for me, I can do it!

Bam starts chanting "I think I can, I think I can..."
