Dawn of the Middle Kingdom [DoC]

@iOnlySignIn: Yes, that is true...however, while this really isn't
a unique restraint I've imposed on myself, part of the goal of this AAR
was to punish the Europeans for teching too quickly and spreading
their tentacles across the world, which one could say is hypocritical,
for I must do all of those things in order to make sure they don't :).
Personally though, I don't like seeing a bunch of colonies everywhere, aesthetically.

Vienna Sausage.

French West Africa. We vote yes, partially because for civs that get too big, we want them to choke.
For civs that are small, we want them to stay small.

We also want to destabilize the Vikings & the Germans.
Here, we get a 2 for 1 special as the Vikings take a chunk out of Germany
and Germany loses a city to pump units towards me with.

Zara Yaqob makes no requests.
How considerate of him!

Abbas, of Iran (who is our vassal) desires a piece of Turkish territory.
We wholeheartedly put our weight behind his proposal.

On the other hand, we ask for nothing.
All of the options listed would hurt us in some way or another.

This proposal falls through, although we will continue our efforts in undermining the Germans.

Huayna Capac, the only native American representative makes no requests.

This one is successful and Sweet Catherine gets what she wants.
The Germans have already lost 2 cities in 1 Congress!

Incensed, Frederick attempts to strike back at claiming SCO territory.
It falls through though and they are weakened.
Also, see Louis XIV trying to drag me into a war with Egypt.
Not going to happen.

News spreads across the SCO!
East Francia has declared war against all the foreign powers,
for the humiliation that was the Congress of Vienna!

The Continental Sea Pony horde, who had previously been stationed in Vienna,
managed to escape in time and seek refuge in Cherbourg before the declaration of
war was issued. A flanking maneuver is the best course of action opted and
the horde gallops underway towards a confidential destination.

The diplomatic situation following the Congress of Vienna.

One of the main German armies crashes into Kiev and takes it from the SCO,
drawing first blood in the war and pushing back Triad lines further into E Luo Si.

In the west, the Sea Ponies march through Italy with the intention of seizing
the German capital while their forces are presumably away.

Our starting Warrior by the way, who is still alive after several millennia,
can be seen here, not running away from the German scouting squad,
but drawing them deep through Russian territory, wearing them down.
Hey, he wouldn't have survived all these years if he didn't have brains.

I did exactly that, but it didn't work. I haven't installed a mod before.

When you downloaded the mod, it came in a zip file, yes?

Use WinRAR, 7zip or WinZIP to extract the contents of the zip file,
and then put the folder in your Mods folder.
Rename the folder: RFC Dawn of Civilization.

Looks like matters on the diplomatic front are rather... volatile so to say.

Irony.

The Turks suffer the loss of their northern Black Sea city to the Germans.
From the early stages of the war, East Francia has the upper hand, despite
being heavily outnumbered and surrounded on all sides by enemies.

However, the Triad makes headway with its first victories in the war,
and major ones to boot. The Ottomans overpower the southeastern German
stronghold of Laodicea while the Continental Sea Ponies backdoor the
German capital of Vienna from traversing through Napoleonic Italy
and the take the defenders by surprise, seizing the city with minor casualties.

In an incredible twist of irony,
Chinese cavalry begin raiding, pillaging
and harassing Mongolian territory, as well
as inflicting heavy losses on their defenders.
We refrain from taking their cities
because of stability and exp farming.

In East Francia, with the seizure of Vienna, an emergency government
was declared and hosted in Stravopol'.

Nice update.
France is close to Rifling, does this mean you'll hit them with something bigger than sea ponies?

@strijder20: Technically, Riflemen are only a hard counter to Cavalry on offense.
When Riflemen become your enemies' defenders, Cavalry are still completely viable;
it just means that the Cavalry you produce must all take Flanking 1 + 2.
Clean up the mess with your Combat Cavalries.

Battle Between Brothers.

The West Franks prepare to take the city of Kiel.

However, the East Franks have a gigantic army marching their way.

Capitalism and Democracy are king in DoC,
however, that doesn't mean you still shouldn't
watch out for Great Depressions.
Just take a look at how much of a bite
it takes out of my stability.

The French Army takes Kiel with ease,
but the Germans are hot on their heels,
ready to take their city back (as well as Frankfurt).

We sit back and watch our two greatest enemies
(Well, France is a friend, but we can backstab them)
annihilate and weaken each other.

Are you going to let the US live?

Backdoor.

And the German Army inflicts horrendous losses on the occupying French Army.
They're a full tech level ahead, thanks to my privateering efforts against the French.

Here, you can see the German Army in full force, ready to take back their western frontier.

...While we take the opportunity to backdoor Stettin and burn it down.
Rogue-ish fighting is best fighting.

We exit stage right out of the war as we only have 3 Cavalry left on the continent
and we've achieved our goals of severing the capital from the head of the German dragon.
Now the French & the Ottomans have to fight against the unstable monster alone.

The Last Unicorn.

It's a good thing we pulled out of the war;
take a look at our stability thanks to the Great Depression:

Now, the Great Depression only occurs if you're running Free Market, I believe.
And it basically eats your stability and leaves you with a permanent hit after the ten turns are up.
Great Depressions are caused when your Production output surpasses your commerce output, or something to that extent.
My preferred civics are normally Totalitarianism + State Property in vanilla RFC,
but compared to the benefit to your economy that democratic civics provide,
and the fact that in DoC, Communism is pushed back much later down the tech tree,
one would be a fool not to play with democratic, capitalist civics.

And the Germans successfully take back their Western Frontier, doing remarkably
well despite their capital being captured and fighting a war on two fronts.

Remember that huge Sea Pony horde I had cozied up in London?
And that I didn't commit them to the war against Germany?
This is why. The Chinese and the Brits have been waiting patiently to give the Yanks a right proper thrashing.
Sadly, as of this writing, I have been notified that Leoreth disabled rushing the AIs on spawn in the SVN version.
Since no one has been able to find out what causes the AI to move almost all their troops out of the capital on spawn,
Leoreth decided to grant a ten-turn protection on newly born civs from being DOW'ed. (If they DOW you on spawn however, that protection is forfeit, so Mongols are still fair game).
Unfortunately, rushing Corea and rushing Japan (a cornerstone of Chinese strategy since vanilla RFC) are no longer viable.
I feel like this AAR is partially responsible, though I recognize how exploitative RFC-style rushing is.
Perhaps finding a way to code the AI to keep all their troops in the capital would be a better compromise.
In any case, appreciate this in 1.81 while it lasts and is the current version.

Oh, and the collapsing Germany, who had lost Wilna,
managed to recapture it. Their tenacity never ceases to amaze me.
Which is why they're often my first target after I deal with England + Portugal.

You're not going to catch the Hessians playing Poker with their pants down this time, Washington.

The last rush of DoC.
Let us have a moment of silence.

The new DoC dynamic names are awesome!
