A cosmic disturbance transports the island of Nantucket and its inhabitants over three thousand years back in time to the shores of a Stone Age America. In addition to coping with the day-to-day problems of survival and the trauma of losing all connection with the modern world, the residents of the time-stranded island find their lives complicated by the presence of native tribes across the water. Stirling's (The Ship Avenged, Baen, 1997) imaginative foray into time travel should also please fans of alternate history. A good selection for most sf collections.

One of the most interesting series of books I've ever read, and definitely a must read if you're into Alternative History genre. I wish I had enough skill to come up with a decent scenario for this one, but unfortunatelly it's not the case. I believe the plot could lend itself to a nice scenario rendition - as you could have the "Nantucket's" small numbers offset by a few high tech units (just like in the book). They would of course lack the capability to build those units anymore (again just like in the book), but would have enough knowledge to slowly crank out some middle age stuff. The books do a pretty good description of historically acurate cities and culture locations from 1300 BC, and the action takes place all over the world, with quite a few wars involved.
