wireless mouse drags

my old mouse finally died, so i decided to get into the 21st century and go wireless. it works fine on my pc but when went to play a saved game it drags horribly. Especially annoying when i need to select a new build project in a city- i'm finishing a utopia win- is there a setting for the mouse I missed?

I tried moving to a differnet port om my pc but no change in performance. i had to sue a port on the back as the ports on the front are so difficult i though i might break something trying plug it in. my pc is about 8 ft away from my wireless router.
