Varica: Children of the Sky

Let it be known to all, king and pauper alike, that the Emperor Hroth V, son of the thunderbolt, descendant of Hroth who descended from Haeka himself, Lord of half the world, does issue this decree

We decree that all Haecomus and Thune who wish to pay tribute to the greatest of our cousins, Adalbrandr, King of the Hrafn, shall be given safe conduct to Varica. Anyone who dares to challenge this guarantee shall suffer the wrath of the Imperial Raeka.

OOC: The space opera that saw the creation of Valdis, Haeka, the Haeocomus and the Thune is starting again. If you're interested, go to http://www.the-frontier.com/phpBB2/ and make an account. You must have a sponsor to become a member of the site (to prevent spammers and attacks on the site), so if you do join, PM me with your username so I can sponsor you. You will be unable to see anything about the new game until you join. Once you do go to the Proposed Games section and check out Ad Astra 6: The Suns of Orion. Like Varica, Suns of Orion is heavily based off of story writing, much of it collaborative, supported by a solid ruleset.

To: Prince Rhakim Mizrahi
From: King Cul Funkard

With regret, we can not trade for boat supplies as we already have them in abundance. Perhaps another deal could be struck?

As the brisk spring weather began to give way before the oppressive summer heat, messengers were sent from Skav to the boarder lands in the south where Sunta patrols were known to tread. Every day, at sunrise, noon, and sunset the messengers called out a proclamation to the Sunta.

"Sunta! Hear us for these are the words of Cul. You are unclean barbarians and cowards. Your stench has been in these lands for too long. King Cul Funkard is coming for you. He will wipe clean the lands of your filth, he will tear your warriors to pieces. He will enslave your women and children. Once Cul is finished, the name Sunta will be forgotten."

"Dhakaan! The lowest weakling born of a weak king, Cul is coming for you. You are insignificant before Cul's might. Cul will personally cut out your heart while you gasp your last breath. Your people are at an end and you will die with them. So Cul has promised. So it shall be!"

Just a reminder than orders are due ~60 hours from now at midnight Friday March 5, Korea Standard Time. Although I'll probably be asleep soon after that. Any orders I get after the deadline but before I start modding the update will be considered on time.

Remember to send trade orders to Shadowbound as well as to me.

I'm still not sure I entirely understand the level of micromanagement expected in the trade orders. Do our people buy all their desired necessities and luxuries automatically, or is the ruler supposed to get directly involved in all and any purchases? Likewise, is there any automatic, private-initiative export along the well-established "natural" trade routes, or is all selling handled by the king as well?

Another thing - what does the Hrafn warrior that has come to us mean to do with that weapon he captured? Does he intend to just show it to us and then keep it as a trophey, or could he be enticed to give it to us as a gift, receiving reciprocal gifts in return ofcourse?

Upkeep will be automatically deducted. If you want your people to use fish instead of grain, tiles instead of timber, etc or a mix, then let me know. You should decide how much of your luxuries should be consumed by your populace.

Trading will be handled by the player. It does sort of make the kings more involved in trade than they likely would be, but I wanted to give players more control over it.

I could make a less-lucrative, automatic way to sell goods if there is player demand for it. Selling it to the citizens of Varica city, probably.

Oops! I meant to send you a PM before I left for Japan. I must have forgotten. I'll send it off soon. If you need a bit of extra time because of my negligence, let me know.

As it happens this is not such a big immediate issue, but I still could use a little extension due to other circumstances. Still, I should be able to send you everything necessary within 24 hours, probably less.

From: Thane Darit'h of the Darians, Lord Demarkes' Second in command
To: Five-Arrow of the Four Claw Fulanti

The emissary bowed to Fulanti who stood before him and then patiently awaited Five-Arrow's permission to speak. When motioned to he cleared his throat quickly and unrolled the scroll in his hands. The paper was merely a formality since he could barely read and the message was all memorized.

"The new second in command of the Darian Marches Darit'h wishes the Four Claw tribes much prosperity in trade and many heroic feats from their fearsome warriors. The Fulanti are a proud people and much admired by Thane Darit'h and he begs a boon of the patient Five-Arrow. He seeks permission to journey to you and learn from your vast knowledge as it will benefit him in such undertakings as will be disclosed if he be granted admittance to the noble court of the Fulanti.
Signed,
Thane and Lord's Second, Darit'h
"

The emissary passed the scroll to Five-Arrow's attendant and stood at attention while he awaited a reply.

Four-Claw Swiftrunners will be on the lookout for your party, to escort you to Five-Arrow. We will send word of your peaceful visit to the Nakar.

Thanks for letting me know. If you do need it, take the weekend as an extension.

Other players, if you need extra time, let me know and I'll give you extensions. If you are late and don't ask for one ahead of time you will receive penalties.

Writing orders as we speak, slowly but surely.

Oh, by the way - care to clarify the status of Vaith, Hrothanic and Izok tribes? Are they small and patron-less (and if so, then what other such tribes are there?) or did I simply miss them somehow? It's not urgent, but would be useful to know in the slightly longer run.

All three are patron-less minor tribes. Each tribe has a power of 4. Hroth IV followed a policy in the first half of his reign where he supported (or ignored, then pretended he supported) the conquest of smaller tribes by larger ones. In the second half of his reign, he supported tribes like the Bexian and Romadi who wanted to unite under new provinces, or reform defunct ones.

Hroth V currently has no policy and lacks the strength or direction to stop the provinces from absorbing the minor tribes. It appears that the regent is following a policy similar to Hroth IV's early reign.

I currently have orders from:

Last Praetoria
Tyrion
The Strategos
Tree151
das
HunterG24

I still require orders from everyone else. There are not enough order sets for me to begin moderation. Only Alex944 has asked for an extension. Where are the rest of you guys?

Sorry... :( Could it be possible to temp NPC me for this turn, or could I send general orders?

Where is everyone else? This is a great game, why is everyone crapping out before the first update. Come on guys!

Shadowbound, do you have a messenger program? It would be much easier to co-ordinate the update if we can chat about it. I'm currently on MSN and ICQ. Let me know, thanks

OOC: Unfortunately it seems I need to bow out at least for the time being. School has just heated up, a new class and clinical is starting and I really just don't have the time. I apologize for the inconvenience, and turn my little desert kingdom over to NPC control until I get my head above water. I'll read the updates and keep talking to Fulton to give him ideas, but I think that's about all I can commit to at this time.

Good luck!

MSN address added to contact info.

I only have two sets of trade orders.

I have received no more orders since my last post. I have spoken to alex994, Shadowbound, and Lord_Iggy.

The remaining players, Vertinari118 and Fuschia, are now on notice. Contact me soon. If I receive no orders from you by the deadline for update 2, you will be removed from the game. You still have a chance to send orders for this turn. I only have time to update on weekends or really quiet days at work. I may not find the time to get to the update before the weekend.
