Game Finishing problem

Hello!

So the problem I have with my version of Civ 3 complete installed on my Windows 7 laptop, its that it will not let me "win" a game, I say this because I can finish but it gets stuck in the menus after the game is done. Starting the game is no problem, I can play through all the ages (ancient, middle ages, industrial and modern) and when I win for example a cultural victory it will take to through the menus to the last one (With the scores) and it will suddenly freeze and shut down, I can play scenarios but when I finish and win the game it will always freeze and it wont count as a win in the menu, any idea of what it might be?

Are your files "read-only"?

I mean as in your Hall of Fame file. There might be a problem completing a game when Conquests can record or acknowledge the victory.

Is that located in the game file folder and called high score? Can’t open it. It could possibly be that, what should I do reinstall the game? I have tried that before without success. Its might be something with the computer. Another thing is that this is not only a problem with the Hall of fame scenarios. I can play them fine and win the game but when I get to a menu like this..
Spoiler:

thats just an example of the game menu it freezes on, I dont have a save of a game I won

It will suddenly freeze and force the game to shut down. It happens with every game, random or scenario, have any suggestions what can be done? I would really like to have it fixed, I will also try to get a screen shot of the message that pops up when it freezes

Do this:

Right click on your start button. On the pop up menu that appears, click on Explore.

In the Explorer window that comes up, work your way down the Directory structure on the left to find Proram Files/Firaxis Games/ Civilization III/Conquests.

In the right pane will be your Conquest folder, as shown in the attachment.

The Hall of Fame file I am speaking of is actually called Campaign Record, sorry. But right click on that file and click on properties. Does it say "Read Only" at the bottom? If so, change it by unselecting the checkbox, clicking apply, and OK. You may need to be doing this as an Administrator.

When I try and open the file I get a window that pops up that looks like..
Spoiler:

It requests that I open the file using another program and I selected another program because I tried opening the Campaignrecord using adobe and it didn’t work so I had to use another one as an example

Don't try and open the file. It's supposed to open as part of the game. Just right click on the file and click on the bottom option in the menu. It's called Properties. You left click on Properties. When that pop up shows you will see what I'm talking about.

EDIT: BTW, tell me about your computer.

Good. You might want to go back and double-check that "read-only" checkbox. Happy gaming.

Alright here is the screenshot
Spoiler:

I don't think the letters or words are supposed to be purple, any way to fix it or is it a compatibility problem?

That's normal coloring. Pink and Purple. I don't see a problem, except your building wealth in Athenae, which has what seems to be your highest shield output.

Your building a city park! This must be the first scenario. Did you run out of improvements to build? Your building Wealth in 3 High Shield cities. Just keep building units to attack and conquer. That's the only real way to score the Victory Points you need. Having a great civilization in that scenrio means nothing. Build your best units and attack the Hittites. Score some points.

Alright, so I guess that’s normal for the colouring, I just found it strange because the other menus are all black lettering.

I did the Mesopotamia Scenario more for testing if it would save my score, I had finished building all the improvements and was working on building wonders or at least waiting for the research. I had a couple of Hoplites running around and attacked the Hittites a bit but I wanted to keep my research up and my gold income in the positives all though I guess it doesn't really matter considering my govt was Oligarchy which drafts citizens to rush projects So its better to attack to get points instead of building wonders?

If I remember correctly, that scenario ends when the last Wonder is built, when one of the tribes gets like 5500 Victory points, or time runs out. All three conditions base the victor on Victory points. You score a lot of points with Wonders, so they are good to build. Besides that, attacking and winning battles, capturing cities is the only real way to score points.

Get to a Monarchy and build the Heavy Cavalry.

I don’t know why but I tend to build more Champions and stay away from the chariots and horseman, also try to pop some goody huts in the beginning of the game. I also find changing govts takes such a long time so I gun it for Oligarchy and stick with it the entire game

I do have another question, is it normal for the music to sometimes sound a little glitchy, It sometimes makes a popping sound when I play

Haven't run into that problem in a very long time. Could be a corrupt file.

Try switching to Tribal Council early and staying in it till Monarchy.

That popping sound tends to happen after I have loaded a saved game, most of the time that is, so there is no real way to fix it then? Ill take your tip, Ill try Tribal council next time

I have the same problem... an I7 Lenovo that freezes up and won't flip to the next year.. I know I have to save and go to an old computer for the final + 1 for victory submission.
