So I've been playing this game as Venice, and I decided to try diverting some of trade routes to growth for my capital. By the time I rolled over a cultural victory, Venice was a 40+ city. I decided to stick around to see how big I could get it. Got to 65, and it's still going strong. It's using every single spot around it, and every single specialist, and a bunch are still unemployed. What's the biggest you've ever gotten a city?

what pace is that? I imagine standart looking at the current year.
My personal best is like 41 or 42, but that was like 250 turns earlier ...

ahem. how much culture did the AI have at this point? 1700+TPT is something VERY serious ...

In a game as Venice on Epic, I believe I once got my pop into the low 70s. I had as many trade routes brining food back to Venice as I could. I should look and see if I still have a save file for that game. Venice is a very powerful Civ. I was worried about how they would play but haven't been disappointed!

I reached 82 in my last game as Aztecs.

I played on epic and by turn 600 or so the atrocious AI still had not claimed victory, so I consistently delayed both Diplo and Science victories to see how big Tenochtitlan could get during play time.

I had Temple of Artemis, Swords into Plowshares, Sun God and of course Floating Gardens in my capital. Combined with 5+ constant food ships and allying with every Maritime CS the cities growth was unreal.

In the end I won a Cultural Victory without taking any policies in Aesthetics on Immortal difficulty...quite weird now that I think about it.

The biggest I recall was about 54 with Venice. It was over by turn 290 or sooner, I imagine I could have grown it large.

Did you manage to stay in positive happiness with 82 pop??

My personal best is somewhere around the upper forties, back on vanilla.

I did indeed since I had rush built Forbidden Palace and Eiffel Tower and also had full Tradition which reduces a ton of unhappiness in Capital. I also had full Commerce for the +2 happiness for each Luxury, Exploration for happiness from each lighthouse, harbor and seaport. To top it off I also took the liberty policy which reduces unhappiness in all cities by 5%

Oh, I had also allied every available CS.

I find that happiness is very easy to maintain late game once you start to dominate in every aspect. The only time I was plagued with unhappiness was in the early game when I was warmongering. After that it was smooth sailing.

I have reached over 100 Population with England previously, but that was well after the game ended. With this Aztec game the AI just plodded along without even trying to win, allowing to me to get a real high population before winning. Had Alexander been in the game things would've turned out a lot differently as I'd imagine he would've went for a Diplomatic Victory a few hundred turns before my eventual win.

I don't really remember but I have reached around 67, too but it's been awhile since I have made a large city made since most of the time I try to get domination victories. Large cities are better gained with traditional starts since tradition usually has food and happiness bonuses in the capital.

Kbnumbers posted a Polynesia save a while back that had 7 sea resources (crab and fish), a cow, deer, and 4 sheep. I recall having a size 35 capital by plastics, so around t200. I think it ended up in the low 40s, t245 or so SV. It's the quickest growing capital I can recall; after lighthouse I blinked and was at pop 12, with great production.

The map balanced this out though, Shaka was given FoY to assist in putting a city everywhere on the map.

I play on quick setting and standard size maps, so usually there isn't much time or reason to go to really high numbers. My best was almost 50.
