Until today, I had believed that Civ IV had no easter egg. But today, I was playing Ragnar on a normal, inland sea map (noble, epic speed). And suddenly a message, with the sound of a lost combat, saying : "Le Cid est mort au combat"

What's that, where does it come from, and what's the point ?!

Cid is a great general.

Man you're french and you don"t know Le Cid ? I guess they don't teach litterature anymore in high school...

(1) Comma after "man".
(2) El Cid was Spanish, in modern terms, not French. (Capital F in "French")
(3) There is no double-T in "literature"
(4) "any more" is two words.
(5) Which high school did you attend, if any ?

How's that for a flamer ?

According to specialists, if you want to flame, at least try to understand what's the thread is about - if you don't, you're not only petty, you're indeed ridiculous.

I was just asking why the game would mention El Cid : first time I ever see that, and first time I see a message about someone dying.

...and as a matter of fact, I teach literature - nice try :goodjob:

Since you're from France, I suppose you are playing the french version of CIV4. Sounds like one of your generals got killed somewhere. It doesn't matter what CIV you play, the names of the generals are picked at random. I've seen this very often in the US version. OK, El Cid now has a long red beard and moustache, and sails a drakkar.

Whenever a great general, or the unit a great general is attached to, dies, a message pops up alerting the player of the name of the general who died. It doesn't matter if the general is yours or if you were fighting against him.

Well, I'm sorry then. I misunderstood you. I hope you did not take it bad. I thought you were asking about the character. And I was not "flaming", just jokingly mentionned literature and high school. I guess that's a lesson for me.

To answer Bushface, I've never said I could write perfect english and I was not making comments about datian' spelling, so I don't see your point when you're mentionning my mistakes. I'm french too, that's why I wrote literature with two "t". And "Le Cid" is a very famous play by a french author "Corneille", it's quite a classic play and almost all french pupils have heard about it at some point, even in my far-from-excellent high school. I hope it's clear now that no arrogance was intended.

Have you never noticed the clock with Soren on it when you enter modern time? It was by the way very early in the morning. Does he rise that early? (5 o' clock or something).

Actually, as far as I'm concerned, the time on the clock is Soren's birthday...;)

My flame was directly solely at ElJojo, whose user-name gives no hint of belonging to a French person, for whom errors in English are forgivable. From the style of his post, I took him to be an American "dude" or possibly "guy": sorry for my error.

And operating on the assumption that he's an American, he can only be a jerk...

Isn't there a list of easter eggs somewhere around here?
