Unhappiness, both mine and in-game

Hello, I am new to the forum. I have a question. In my civ 5 games, with the brave new world patch, I CONSTANTLY get to around the 2000 year mark and all of a sudden my happiness will crash. And I mean CRASH! For example, in my last game; I am the germans playing on king, I'm at -2 happiness and BAM! one turn later It'll drop down to negative 35. There was no ban on a current luxury, I am at war but no city changed hands, I didn't discover a new tech, and no city state changed. The only thing I see, is that my cvs public option for my new ideology has changed.

My question is this. WHY?! One year later, the whole country is in revolt because... OF WHAT? No other civ adopted any other ideology, so what is going on here? It keeps happening, time and time again. And if I save my game just prior to choosing my ideology, then go back and take what everyone else did, they change their minds choose something else and then it happens again regardless. It has literally sucked all the fun from the game for me and I am not going to play it, OR beyond earth unless someone can offer insight in to it. and preferably a way to avoid this totally STUPID turn of events. I've even gone from the + happiness to game crippling unhappiness. its stupid, frustrating and I cannot find any help from google search so please help me. I;ve been a huge civ fan from the very beginning. Remember building your palace in the first one? Ahh sweet memories. I don't want this to be what turns me off of a fun addicting game.

Sounds like you've got into a mess with ideologies culture and tourism.

Once ideologies start being chosen by other civs, you need enough total culture to avoid being swamped by their tourism otherwise you will get unhappiness.

There are some excellent guides on here, hopefully someone will supply a link. Here's an earlier thread that answers some questions. http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=503211

I take it he means: he picked an Ideology (say Freedom), found out the other AIs all then choose Order, reloaded and picked Order, but AIs now pick something other than Order.

Anyways, my suspect is that he's no longer Allied with several Happiness CS simultaneously.

It is almost certainly an ideology issue, maybe coupled with alliances finishing. Seser, take a screenshot of your game and then click on the little suitcase at the top, the tourism icon, choose the culture victory menu and take a screenshot of that. We may be able to help, but I am almost certain this is not a bug but a game mechanic you are still not familiar with. Ideology unhappiness pressure (if that is what it is) is one of the most difficult things to counter and you will get it in every game.

and hover your mouse on the smiley face icon to display the total happiness breakdown and see what's amiss

Was there a vote on world ideology?
Was it possible for other civs to reach a new level of influence over you that have differing ideologies?

Bear in mind that the AI is gullible to the point of choosing any ideology that has free tenets rather than a "good" ideology.

Also, it seems like the hit from competing Ideologies shows up the turn after you pick, not the turn you pick. The immediate happy benefits show up, and you're like, "Sweet!" and then hit next turn and you're in the hole again.

The problem here is very much obvious - a lack of culture generation to begin with. This is a problem I handle very easily on Diety - King should be easy.

The general fix involves building your culture guilds, putting specialists in them. Build all three guilds in the same city, and culture buildings whenever you can. Then use the Hermitage in the high food city that the guilds went in.

Problem solved. :)

Ok sweet thank you for all the advice! I will load up the game and get a screen shot right away.In my next game I will try to manage my tourism better. Ya Erneiz thats exactly what I meant, But my City state friendship remained the same, I will post the screen shots soon and you can see. Sessy, there wasn't a vote, but I am not sure if your second idea happened I will have another look. Vra379971, I do try to have a high culture, more so for the perks but again I will keep a better eye on it and see if thats the ticket.

thanks again for every bodys advice I will start a new game tonight and see if things go different. I will post the screen shots of my last game soon s well. This is my first time posting on ANY forum, so it may take me a bit to figure it out hahaha

What are you calling high exactly? By the end game, I'm whipping out 400+ a turn, and about 100 by Industrial. To have the problems you describe at the level you play at, I would hazard a guess your culture must be under 50 per turn at Industrial, if not lower? That's a bit of a 3 AM shot in the dark, but I think it's likely.
