Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

Accoring to the CFC guide, shrines are WW's, but...

Are the Religious Shirnes considered as national wonders, because for some reason (glitch?), Moses can't build the buddhist shrine at the city with national epic and hindu shrine..?

The throne room in Civ2 (or palace in Civ3) was a feature which rewarded you for successfully playing the game. Every once in a while, when your Empire flourished, you could choose something to make your throne room (or palace) larger, prettier etc. Like adding a carpet to the floor, or coats-of-arms to the walls, or (in case of a palace) build another story or side building.

It wasn't necessary to play the game, but a nice addition nevertheless.
Ok I knew it, total useles, I was addicdet by civ3 too
Thanks :)

1. Adding power to a city with a factory bumps up the production bonus from 25% to 50%. As such, I can only assume that there is no advantage to building multiple Power Plants in a single city (Coal, Nuclear, Hydro, Three Gorgess Dam), but nevertheless the game still allows you to do this. Could thios be considered a bug? Furthermore, if you already have a coal plant, and then you build a hydro plant on top of it does the hydo plant render the coal plant completely obsolete and eliminate its health penalty?

2. Monasteries can not be build after scientific method, but without the Organized Relgion Civic you can only build a missionary in cities with a monastery. So does t5his mean that after discovering Scientific Method the only way to build a missionary is either to already have a preexisting monastery or to0 switch to Organized Religion? This seems vaguely buggish ...

1. It's crude, but not a bug. Building a hydro plant (or the Dam) eliminates the health penalty from the coal plant.

2. Yes, that's correct. Slightly odd design decision, but not a bug either.

And btw, welcome to CFC :)

Well, the crudishness could certainly be better addressed in a n update, but to me the actual bug is leaving intact the ability to build a (100% useless) coal or nuclear plant even after a hydro plant has been buil in the city (or the The 3 Gorges Dam Wonder on the continent).

Quick Question:

Just to confirm this - a Domination Victory requires BOTH the population and land percentages specified... not either, but both. Right?

RichC

Yes, you need both.

I'm new to the forums and I couldn't find an easy answer to my question so I thought I'd post it here. I borrowed the game from a friend and it has some trouble on my system. I'm running a Pent 4 (1.3Ghz) with a GeForce 2 (very old, I know) and I saw the suggested system had a 1.8Ghz processor and some card that is much faster than my old GeForce. My question is, if I just get a new video card will I be okay, or do I need a better processor too? A decent graphics card is going to cost $150 but a significant processor boost is going to run me up another $250. Right now I can't really go to war because it takes too long to process all the moves and when I load games it takes about 3-4 minutes to process the first few turns. So will a new card do it for me, or am I financially doomed?

The power plant is not completely useless if you have the 3 Gorges Dam, because an enemy could conquer the city with the dam and you would still have backup power in your other city.

Is there a way to have a Great Engineer factory. Caste systems disallows the increase of GE's. The most most Engineer specialist I have added was 2 (Forge + Factory). Is there a good way to increase my chance at getting a GE? They are powerful so that's probably why they capped the number of engineers.

Another question is do super specialists generate GPP? The pop-up does not mention this.

I have a P4 1.4 (256MB ATI 9600) and it's perfectly fine at the beginning and it's slow but bearable at endgame. After a while I got used to it. I was using a 128MB 9200 before and the speed was horrendous. The graphics card definitely improved performance by a lot. The answer really depends on whether you plan to continue gaming in the long run. If so, then you might as well scrap the computer you have.

Is there a way to have every turn saved? Not just the last five turns.

Is there a way to view every notice during a replay, not just the "important" ones?

The Factory allows 2 engineers, not 1. And one city can build the Ironworks, which lets it have up to 6 engineers (1 from Forge, 2 from Factory, 3 from Ironworks). It can also have a free engineer from Mercantilism. Other cities can have 3 engineers (1 from Forge, 2 from Factory), plus 1 from Mercantilism.

No.

In the folder where you installed Civ4, there is a link to a Civilizaton4.ini file. Open it. with an editor. There is a line that specifies the autosave frequency. It's set to 5 at default, just set it to 1.

Not without a mod.

How do I set Rally points, for newly developed units? I couldn't find a shortcut for it on the keylayout thing.

I'm new to Civ4. I noticed that when you start a game at 4000BC it goes all the way through 2050AD. I'm playing a custom game Conquest. Does it actually end at 2050 with the highest score wins the game? Or does it go on until you beat everyone out?

Hi Netnerdman, welcome to CFC :)

The game will end in 2050 unless you unchecked the "Time victory" option when setting up the game. You will be able to continue playing afterwards though - after the winner has been decided, you'll get a popup and can choose whether you want to end a game or play "just ... one ... more ... turn". Your score during that "overtime" won't be recorded though.

Thanks for the quick reply Psyringe, I think I checked the Time Victory, but I will start over and un-check it this time so I can play at my own pace :)

If you want to win by domination or conquest, you may want to uncheck the space victory (and perhaps culture and diplomacy) as well. A space victory is almost guaranteed to happen if the AIs have enough time, so you'll find yourself racing towards domination while the AIs build their space ships. Also, in such a game, you may want to check "aggresive AI", so that the AI is less passive.

Click on a city title bar to highlight it. (Ctrl-click on more city bars if you want to set a rally point for several cities, or Alt-click to select all cities on the continent). Mouse over the tile you want to set as a rally point. Press and hold sgift and click the right mouse button. If it worked, then a yellow circle will appear, which marks the rally point.
