There are different types of holidays.

First there are Government Holidays, like 4th of July for example in America. We all celebrate them because we are supposed to, and everyone else does the same. The Government said to celebrate - great, a reason to celebrate!

There are People's Holidays, like Labour Day. One of the most useless holidays I might add. People celebrating that they have to work, and most people don't remember it, and for the students in most schools it is the last day before school starts again - not a reason to celebrate.

Also, there are some National Holidays. Like the Victory day, which every nation has at some time or another, and some even have more than one. Some victories we celebrate over thousands of years, even if no one knows for sure how the victory was achieved. But even here not everything is simple. First, reminds you of all the people who died to get this victory, and second of all sometimes things turn out so with the former enemy you are now the best of friends. And then there is a problem, he is a friend, so should invite him, but what if he gets offended, afterall, we are celebrating a victory over his country.

But, thank God, there are victories for which nobody spilled any blood, not theirs, not other people's. And the glory of this victory still does not dim one bit. And nobody is offended, since the victory is not over a neighbor, but over nature, who tried to keep those who cannot fly crawling on the ground.
And there is something to be proud of. Of the heads who thought of this, and the hands that built it, and the fiery hearts of those who dared to try it first.

Happy Aniversary of Space Flight Everyone!

Tragically, even discovering the new world, achieving powered aerial flight, going into space, and landing on the moon can be twisted into nationalistic/ethnic p***ing contests. But anyway, thanks for the reminder Stormbringer. :goodjob:
