Cool! :D Do you have a download/nif for them?

(I'm afraid I haven't found time to test your sea CP in-game yet - lots of other stuff happening right now)

Thanks

NP, will have it soon. Can you check if they work in Civ4? I have ways figured out on how to get the models working for sure, by exporting as an ASCII and importing into 3dsMax 7, then using the CivTools [which are incompatible with 9, which I have]. Since I'm exporting those .nif files using some scripts from ESIII: Oblivion modders.

Supply crawler, with a different set of treads. Made them more true to the original.

Hey, shall I make some terrain improvement models? I'm not sure which ones are already in, just type a list and I'll get working on them.

What about the city set graphics? I remember seeing a screenshot of some awesome Peacekeeper buildings.

Also, could we make all the building-type improvements [labs, greenhouses, archaological digs] organic, like villages? It make a builder's land look much better. This is low on the list of priorities though. Maybe we could eventually make faction-specific graphics for each? Gaian boreholes would be friendly-looking, Zak's labs would be more efficient-looking, etc.

And what do you want the leviathan to look like? I think it should go on water and land and be like the mythical beast.

Woo just made a [weaponless] cruiser, with a scene [scale adjusted to be impressiver]!

This, the crawler and the supplies:

Have you tried grabbing the other zips [the above only has .nifs] and importing the .3DS or the .ase file into a scene? Hopefully that'd work if the code for those formats is the same.

Yeah, just checked using the 3Dsmax 7 trial version, and importing [file-->import] a .3DS file works, although you lose the colour information. But that doesn't matter since the colours are only there to help visualise the properly skinned version. So you can open my models, providing I export them as 3DS files :) Which is good, because the .nif CivTools, which other Civ modders use, aren't compatible with 9, only 7 and 8.

Here's the main set of models so far as 3DS files:

Spore launcher :D This one should be fairly easy to animate. The tube holes are part of the skin, unless you want me to bevel some holes, at the expense of a few hundred polys.

You should at least install and try the demo, PL. It's only limitation (AFAIK) is it cuts you off after 100 turns. You get the full unit workshop, datalinks, etc.

Just google SMAC demo. :)

The_Reckoning, I finally got around to testing one of your units in-game, and there seems to be some problem. Check screenshot. A wild guess: might the lack of a kfm file cause problems? (What the hell are those anyway?)

Btw, do you have a suggestion for the scale of your models?

Thanks :)

They are mobile.

I've always wondered how they actually move though. Is is in any of the books?

They seem plantlike. Perhaps they launch spores to the neighbouring plot where they grow anew? They supposedly have a year the time to grow after all.

And it's possible to win the game under 100 turns. :D

I imported the artillery unit from Civ4, and it's about 150 "max units" long, so I figure if I rescale my models to 150 max units, then you can import them with whatever scale factor the artillery unit uses.

I'll have a read of this and see why they're throwing up that error

I think kfm files are for the animation.

Do you want to try this one?

I used 3ds max 7 and the Civ4 tools plugin, following the tutorial here:
