Since no one likes Steam, what type of DRM would you prefer?

Because the usual process is
Start Steam without an internet connection
Steam asks if you want to go offline
You click yes
Game starts.

that is true if everything is updated or the steam client doesn't know there is an update waiting - if you set it to offline mode otherwise its similar though - start steam client - click on go offline - wait until updating is done - close client. It does update itself as well as any games.
