Unit Request Thread 3

That was Kinboat's Armored Infantry.

Oh wow. I missed his units. Nice! Those Jin-Roh look so much like the Helghast from Killzone! That'll make a great addition as an Eastern version of Mobile Infantry for my scenario.

I think I'll just use what I have at the moment, and use Balou's and Kinboat's units. Thanks for the link Laurana!

It uses a sidearm rather than a rifle, but have you looked at NavyDawg's Boba Fet?

I am writing what I intend to do so you know that the units I'm asking for are extremely important for my game.

I have removed rail from my game and workers can still automate. This is done by making construction of rail require a resource not available in any terrain. Airfields are used as train stations. I have altered the Airfield into a Transport Hub in name and graphics only. All of this is game tested and with the new AI provided by Quintillus' editor, the computer will use these units.

1 Infantry Armoured Train
2 Tank Transporter Train
3 Oshkosh M1070 Heavy Equipment Transporter

I've been trying to make this game for years and I need a unit designers help to get it finished.
Thank you for reading.

Infantry Armoured Train (Engine-Gun Carriage-Infantry Carriage-End Train)
While I do not have any of your units (sorry!) I would like to correct your image of an armored Train.

In both worldwars in Europe, the Engine was in the middle of the train, not at one end as the trains were in most cases symetrical for use in both directions.

A typical german armored train was:

Schutzwagen (flatcar as protection against mines) - Artillery Car - Infantry Car - Command Car - Locomotive - Infantry Car - Artillery Car - Schutzwagen

Later in WWII flat cars with tanks became common as addition.

The russian armored trains were similar (in fact both sides made use of captured armored cars of the other side).

The combinations were far away from being fix, as cars has to be frequently removed and or replaced due to damage (or salvage of a better car from the enemy ;) ).

Also armored trains were rated as combat vehicle, not as transport (those were classic freight trains ;) ).

PS and EDIT: the KI will use and build landbased transports if you mark them as naval and arial transport using Quintillus or Stephs editor. I have Trucks and Carriages as fast and unarmed infantry transports. The KI loves to use them!

And as last thought: there is a WWI Artillery Carrier made by wyrmshadow, that could fit as a heavy lifting vehicle into your mod: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=8140905&postcount=4

I am creating a huge compilation of units for a scenario I'm working on, and planning on releasing soon as testing is completed. It contains about 150 units downloaded from this site, spanning from ancient to future (mostly in modern times). However, I am not finding the one cherry to the shake that I so desperately need.

I am looking to complete the infantry line with a Mobile Infantry unit, similar to Starship Troopers (the novel version, not the movie version). I initially used the WH40K Fire Warrior unit, but that one has a bugged flc that makes the terrain behind it appear gray.

I was thinking of using some of the Space Marines units from the WH40K mods, but they're far too bulky and their weapons too retro-fi for my tastes. If I could find a unit that's clearly got powered armor but not all bulky, like the Fire Warrior unit looks, that'd be fantastic.

Is there a unit out there that someone is familiar with that fits this profile? Or would an artist be kind enough to make one?

I'm thinking of taking on the task myself, but my gfx craftsmanship would not compare to some of the elite artists on this site.

Have a look at Wyrmshadow's excellent Rocket Trooper, his equally excellent Super Armored Fighting Suit (a personal favorite ;) ) and, secondarily, NavyDawg's "merc."

Thanks Kirejara
I didn’t expect to be able to do that. I've got the new editor installed now so I’m looking forward to a tougher AI.
The Mk1 Artillery carrier won’t do as a modern Heavy Equipment Transporter though. The HET and passenger train aren’t so important but a freight train suitable for modern use is a must.

I keep getting a “Failed to successfully output file” message when I try and save. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Have you got any advice?

@Kirejara

Wait what? The AI uses land transports with 'Naval transport' and Air 'transport' flags together? How do they go about unloading?

I figured out my save game issue. Still haven’t successfully tested AI’s use of land transports yet.

If anyone else wants the editor here’s the thread
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=377188

If Transport Sea + Transport Air works for land units what do you use for Tactical Missile Transports? I’m assuming Missile Transport Sea. If anyone has a list of AI tricks specific to this editor I’d like to know.

ZergMazter if this helps this is as far as I've got

Passenger units fight from the vehicle if attacked protecting it. You can use the bombard feature of a transported unit by selecting the vehicle and then selecting the passenger’s graphic from the window in the bottom right. After use the passenger will remain in the vehicle without ever having unloaded. This process prevents you from leaving your guys behind. It will also work for attack but only if the attack doesn’t kill all of the defenders. I use it all the time for infantry transport helicopters.

You know how when you use a standard sea transport the AI's goal is to get to shore to unload? Whats the AI's goal when loading into a land unit? Does it just load and send the transport randomly somewhere, is it looking to get close to a city to unload, or does it just load, then send the transport to 'attack' the enemy attacking from the inside?

Hi Zergmazter,

so far I have seen carriages and trucks moving through the KI own territory. While I have not seen them unloading them, there was each and every time I engage one of them at least one foot unit in it (unlike naval or arial transport, they defend their land transport).

edit: just noticed balou's armored shock infantry has already been recommended

I initially used the WH40K Fire Warrior unit, but that one has a bugged flc that makes the terrain behind it appear gray.

This sometimes happens with flics. Flicster read the shade of magenta in the background as a shadow shade when the flc was being made. Find a unit maker (sorry, but I'm not qualified yet) to fix it, and you'll be back in business.

This isn’t a request just a suggestion. It would be nice for the use of cruise missile type units early on in the game. I use a powder keg cruise missile for use on land (often referred to as a petard). The powder keg and the units I’m suggesting have only 1 bombard range.

Fireships https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fire_ship

Hellburners https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hellburners

Japanese units https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_Special_Attack_Units

These units can help turn the tide on much more powerful and better funded fleets.

There's this fireship converted from Age of Empires I, where it shoots fire kind of like the Byzantine Dromon. It's ooooooold though.

One way way of creating a cheap hack of a fireship that can function like a cruise missile, is to use whatever ship flc you want, and then point the Death animations to any generic explosion flc. You may acquire those from various threads.
