Ok, in this game i met a luxury problem i rarely get from the beginning of a game. What would you guys do with this awesome starting position?

Would you grow it into one hell of a GP farm, given there is insane amounts of food available?

OR

Would you cottage the entire area except the food sources?

Difficulty: Monarch
18 Civs
Huge Map
All victory conditions on except Cultural

I know what i'm gonna do with it though, but what would you do with a similar start?

Discuss :)

WOW.

that city would be awesome at anything really. i think it would depend on what my civ needs.

but generally i make my best food rich site my wall street and run lots of merchants during caste system and settle them. then switching over alot of the uneeded farms to cottages during emancipation. the good thing about this city, is you wont need many farms to get a nice food surplus, and can just cottage the majority of it.

this site would also make one hell of a production center with workshops even without state property.

GP farm. That is an AMAZING food city. Can we have the 4000 BC auto/worldbuilder save?

Are you Winnie, Liz, or Vicky? Winnie/Liz I would GP farm, Vicky I would gold mine.

How can you play with such a high resolution? My eyes would fall out.

i like cottages in my starting city. the economy and education bonuses without the penalties. add Bureaucracy and that goes up. w/ that many food spots on the river and food resources, you could afford to run some specialist and still cottage the place.

@Cheese: Yes you can, but i play my own "mod" with altered xml files, and i also play with the "Lock modifying assets" checked, so i doubt you would be able to load it.

For my settings, check attatchment :)

@Chead: Hehe, its the native resolution on my monitors, thus giving the best visual performance

My plan anyway, is to use it as a GP farm, with National Epic. I'm not sure about the second national wonder though, even national park could be useful for this, as the unhealthiness can reach incredible heights here.

I would de-capitalize this later. Run Pacifism (with State Religion in London), build NE, and laugh.

i always forget that you can change your capital. i don't think i have ever done that in all the times i have played this game. w/ that thinking i might go for gp farm.

Im quite convinced you knew exactly what i meant though :crazyeye:

I did. However it's important to differentiate the two because failure to do so is a very common rookie error. I've seen some players get past noble without knowing the difference.

Cottage it. There are two other reasonable early GP city sites in view (1N wheat and 1NW of northern corn). Like DMOC said, don't waste the floodplains. That city barely needs all that food anyway.

Yea, iknow, im sorry for spreading confusion. Commerce goes through the slider before it's turned into gold, while buildings like shrines produce gold directly. Too bad i cant edit my wording in the thread subject :<

I decided to try something new in this game, and the city turned out to be a pretty nice draft city (never tried that approach before).

Apparently I was wrong. I must have a really bad GP farm eye.

Personally I would reload autosave and go 1N. But I'm a cheater.

Where's the 4000 BC save?

Like most of the others, I'd cottage that baby up, and heavily prioritize monarchy to get that city as big as I can as fast as I can.

I would restart the game and settle 1N.

Extra Irrigated Corn + Hill > Cow.

Also, why didnt you farm the Corn first instead of the flood plains?

National Park + Shakespeare's Theatre. Settle great generals, and whip/draft. Anything else doesn't make full use of all that food. You'd have about 45 surplus food with biology at size 20. That is a ridiculous amount of production.
