From my apartment I can hear a mosque calling the faithful to prayer every day. That mosque has a protestant church on one side and a catholic church and school across the street. I can also hear Spanish music playing on the weekend. A block from here is a Chinese restaurant run by people who barely speak English. It shares a building with a place called Kennedy Fried Chicken run by an Indian family. Indians also run 2 liquor stores a mile in the other direction. Some Pakistanis run one pizza place, and Italians another one. There's a Jamaican bakery and a Dominican sandwich shop. Walking down the street I see women in burkhahs and saris.
The children of all these people go to the same school. Their grandchildren won't even speak the language of their grandparents home country.
