Hi everyone and welcome to the TSG2 After Action Report thread. In this thread you can post the results of your game. Please state victory date and score (preferably in the post title), as recorded in the Hall of Fame, and the most important: your path to glory! This post will be updated with the results at the end of the two week period (sorted by date and score). Players are encouraged to provide feedback on the game. Some players like to replay the game, and although we will not record the results from a replay, you can still post your new experiences (please state if the game is a replay). The game will not be closed as such, but after two weeks, the results will be compiled, and will not necessarily be updated with reports coming in afterwards.

Please attach a final save to your post. Save the game after victory is declared by selecting the 'few more turns' option. The save will then be in:

My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\Saves\single\ on WinXP

... and in an equivalent location on Vista or Win7.

You are also welcome to attach your .Civ5Replay file for the game, found in:

My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\Replays or equivalent.

This was a fun ride. Had a few close calls due to impatience/bad luck but by Turn 200 I had this game in the bag. At the end I was cranking out 1800+ :science: /Turn and that was sub optimal. I'll be adding in screenies shortly or tomorrow, whichever. My screen shots got borked. There are bits of the image missing especially the fish resource graphic and the legs of a lot of troops so no screenies.

Full Write Up
Spoiler :

Turn 0- I settled on the Marble for an instant +25% to Wonder production and began exploring
Turn 6- In a ruin I find a map revealing Almaty and Monaco, no opponents yet
Turn 9- I discovered Archery in an ancient ruin, huzzah!
Turn 11- I met both Napoleon and Montezuma. Monty is way to the northwest but I can't find Napoleon.
Turn 14- Montezuma asks for my assistance in undermining Napoleon. I figure this is good as fighting Monty is a pain this early
Turn 19- My first worker is out and I've begun making a monument.
Turn 20- Found Vienna... oddly all three CS are in a straight line and evenly spaced.
Turn 24- Work has begun on Stonehenge
Turn 25- I met Gandhi to my north. I also opened the Tradition policy tree
Turn 27- Gandhi wants me as his ally, which he should :)
Turn 35- Stonehenge is complete, I begin work on
Turn 36- I met Kuala Lampur and Tyre to the east of Gandhi. From the looks of things I'm on the south eastern corner of the continent. I highly suspect Napoleon is in the south west.
Turn 38- I adopt Aristocracy. I now have +78% Production when building wonders in my capital.
Turn 41- Montezuma asks for my cooperation... sure!
Turn 42- Both Monty and Napoleon want to enter my lands. They can... for a price
Turn 50- I found Elizabeth way way to the north, looks like this is going to be a 'fun' game.

Turn 56- Elizabeth planted a city next to Montezuma's capital and then decided she didn't like him there and came to me. I figured I'd agree for now, more cities for me to puppet later although why she would make a city 18 tiles from her capital is beyond me. I also finish the Great Library and popped Theology. Work has begun on The Oracle
Turn 73- Having saved up 3 Social policies I open Patronage and grab Aesthetics and Philanthropy. I then Ally with Vienna.
Turn 78- Grabbed Scholasticism to boost research as I intend to befriend all the CS on my continent, and it looks to be more than half.
Turn 79- Allied with Tyre and Kuala Lampur.
Turn 87- Entered my 1st Golden Age.
Turn 93- Started building Pike men to take over my continent.

Turn 108- Interesting Turn. I was given my second unit from Tyre, the first was an Archer and this one was a Pike men. That with the two Pike men I made will kick off my conquest of India. I then received a threatening warning from Elizabeth about being too close to her Empire though I was nowhere close. Looking over I saw she had continued to expand south from her oddly placed city next to Monty. She's next on my kill list.
Turn 113- I DOW India and took Mumbai the same turn.
Turn 114- Finished researching Education and used a GS to pop Acoustics. Rationalism, Ho! (Whoever gets this reference gets a cookie)
Turn 120- India eliminated... I lost way more troops than I should have. I rushed and lost 2 Pike men and my Archer. However with India out of the picture and two puppets under my belt, I'll be up and running in no time
Turn 124- Despite mentioning Rationalism, I forgot to adopt it until now along with Secularism and Free Thought.
Turn 133- Humanism adopted. Preparing to put Elizabeth in her place.
Turn 135 to 137- I see Elizabeth's forces moving though my allied CS and decide now is the time to strike. I DOW and take Hastings. I also start work on the Porcelain Tower.
Turn 143- I take York. Elizabeth opted for peace earlier but I declined since she just wanted a cease fire. She needs to learn where she stands. At least Gandhi did, before I ended him.

Army
General William the Conqueror
3 Pike men
3 Archers
1 Chariot Archer (En Route to front lines)
1 Catapult (Garrisoned on second front)

Turn 151- That was a disappointing end to the war. I give that great write up and then she surrenders the next turn offering Nottingham and some gold. I was at least hoping to start marching on London before she caved in. At least she learned not to oppose me but I'll need to be careful. Elizabeth is farther along the military tech line than me.
Turn 152- Adopted Sovereignty. I also found the Ideal Location for my Spaceship Factory city.
Turn 153- I finished the Porcelain Tower, Saving that GS for pushing into the modern era later.
Turn 154- France got Eliminated out of nowhere. I wasn't aware he was being attacked. Only thing I can suspect is there is a 6th Civ on my continent or Montezuma is bigger than I though. Oh Damn!
Turn 157- Found what used to be France in the northwest corner of the continent owned by Montezuma. Great, he's going to be a B!%@# to kill.
Turn 163- Time to finish off Elizabeth and then prepare to wipe Montezuma off the earth. I give you 'The Canterbury Tales'... The Bloody version
Turn 168- Oh no... Long bowmen! Arrows assail me from the shadows! I must rush quickly and crush her now before she gets more.
Turn 172- Well I encountered the invisible unit bug. The AI displaced one of his Long bowmen and it's location was outside of the city but its graphic was inside the city so my Pike men all tried to run around the damn thing. Some good news I finally finished my Caravel.
Turn 185- I finally accept a cease fire from Elizabeth as I can't get close enough to hurt her. I'll pull back for now and burn my GS and Scientific Revolution to get Dynamite for the Artillery and Riflemen along the way.
Turn 191- I found the other continent and met Darius I and Washington. They appear to be at war with each other.
Turn 195- I adopt Scientific Revolution unlock Freedom. Next turn I will pop 2 of my GS and grab Dynamite. Now I just need the money to upgrade all of my units.
Turn 198- Finally encountered Arabia. So now I know who all the Civs are. I now have 3 Riflemen and am prepared to blitz Elizabeth and remove her as a threat once and for all.

Turn 205- Now that I have troops who can live long enough to get close, Elizabeth has been eliminated. Time to bring down Monty and claim sovereignty of this continent once and for all!
Turn 211- I DOW on Montezuma. Lets ROCK!!!
Turn 218- Ok... Rio De Jeneiro in the effort of helping me just annexed Teotihuacan. I suppose it saves me the trouble of maintaining that city myself. They Razed it...
Turn 220- I Capture and Liberate Lyon. I couldn't really afford to manage another puppet at the moment. As it is Napoleon is so far behind the Tech race, he'll never be a threat and I can recapture at any time.
Turn 237- Finally Montezuma is down. Now to go back and crush Napoleons dreams of reestablishing himself... I'm so mean >:D With the Major fighting over, I cashed in my 2 Great Generals for Golden Ages.
Turn 239- Napoleon is finished (again) and all that's left to do is crank up my research and crank out ship parts.
Turn 240- Washington really likes horses. I just traded 78 of them for 900 gold... I just counted at most I have 28 and that's including ones from CSs, I guess I wont be using that too much since this is a competition. Odd bug
Turn 242- I finished researching Biology. I have also researched Steam Power and Dynamite putting me squarely ahead. Time to use the 3-4 GS I have laying around.

Turn 263- Forbidden Palace completed. Now I should finally be able to reach my second Golden age... and I have yet to build the Taj Mahal :)
Turn 265- Rocketry completed. Work has begun on the Apollo Program. My super Production city is budding but not quite where I wanted it to be. It should be fine in about 30 Turns
Turn 272- Satellite Finished. Once the Apollo program completes I can begin building my first piece of the Spaceship. I took a detour to build the Taj Mahal since my cities are expanding faster than my happiness.
Turn 279- My horses still seem to be 'breeding' I now have over 1000 of them. Will it ever stop?
Turn 281- Holy Crap! Upgrading a Caravel straight to Destroyer gives you not only the +3 Sight from the Caravel, but an additional +2 Sight from the Destroyer for +5 Sight! And if you have The Great Lighthouse or Naval Tradition... whoo boy. I've taken another detour. Seems I forgot to grab Chichen Itza... and so did every other civilization. Once that's on track I have the Taj 1 Turn from completion so things will be going smooth.
Turn 290- Chitchen Itza complete. Darius was also eliminated just a few turns ago. Looks like its just me and Washington now. I hope he doesn't attack me. I'd hate to have to massacre him with my Rocket Artillery and Mechanized Infantry. Hell by the time he gets those Ill have a GDR
Turn 295- I caved and used my 'rabbit breeding' horses for a quick buck (I'm gonna regret this when I see the numbers). I got tired of getting within spitting distance of my 2nd Golden Age and have it slip back due to my enormous population growth. So I got enough money for a Theater to keep me in the green for a few more turns.
Turn 300- Finally I get my 2nd Natural Golden Age.

Tips,Tricks,Bugs and Exploits
Spoiler :

I have several things to bring up in this section.

Tips- Settle on Marble to give yourself an instant +25% to wonders without having to get masonry and improve the tile. Problems may arise from Marble's location.

Tricks- Keep in mind special abilities of some units when upgrading them. Caravels in particular keep their +3 Sight when upgraded and it stacks with any other Sight bonuses.

Bugs- It is possible to occasionally displace (stack with extra movement left so you can move out, then attack causing the game to glitch and shove the first unit out but not move its graphic location) a unit creating an invisible barrier randomly around the units initial location. It can be very annoying when charging a city (I'm looking at you Elizabeth) and the enemy keeps moving archers into its city to fire, shoving the others out and you can't see them.

Exploits- It seems that Trading strategic resources has a game breaking bug. Once it starts it will always happen when you trade them. What happens is once the deal is over you will get your resources back multiple times over the course of the next few turns potentially turning 10 Horses into 10000 Horses in a relatively short amount of time. You can keep selling these up to 999 units to an AI and take everything he owns including his clothes. I noticed it when I traded 12 Horses and got back 72. And they just kept coming since I had continued to trade them before I realized that they weren't my horses. So go ahead and trade them but once you see them start to 'breed' (well this happens to all strategic resources so breeding isn't quite accurate) either stop or figure out how many you actually own and only trade those and make sure you don't have any existing deals using you're allowed amount before making new trades.

Well it was not as easy as the first one.

Part 1:
Spoiler :
Egypt? -> Chariots! Attacked with 2 chariots and a warrior montezuma, but i made peace with him for 200g -> ghandi easy win with 4 chariots and warrior -> england same -> napoleon same ( was a little harder, lost 2 chariots here, but produced another one) -> montezuma (bought a horseman in my capital) so i had all capitals on my continent. meanwhile i scoutet with a trireme... but no luck

Part 2:
Spoiler :
In my build a library, greater lib -> failed at timing :o, was clear i had to go for navigation etc. After spending 2 points in honor i took commerce and +1sight +1movement for naval units.
Then i thought: no risk no fun... the trireme couldnt be upgraded (dunno y =/) so i embarked my 5 units and sailed west: i rly survived and found the american.
Now comes the best part, he was fighting a military city state! Spend 250g to the state and rushed his citys -> ally city state and his capitol!

Part 3:
Spoiler :
Scouting again T.T.... Bought a Frigate at my capital and sailed east. Meanwhile i scouted with my chariots the continent and found persia northeast of Washington. But there was something weird, Budapest Persian? At the same time my Frigate found another military city state and persia was just fighting it :D! So i helped this city state and conquered an ex-arabia city from persia. Then i found his capitol south -.- and moved there. On the way i took another persian city. Fighting his capitol was the hardest one ive ever done, he produced alot of immortals and hat a catapult in his capitol, lost around 5 units, but with the units from the 2 ally city states i could manage him (and i bought 2 more units there). Arabia was pretty easy cause he lost everything to persia before.

evil persia, hope we wont see again in the next time!

edit: btw im trying the science next we here :>

Spoiler :

A straighforward game. Eliminated or significantly weakened all same-continent rivals by the time Rifling was researched. Made allies with all maritime city states. Kept a watch on the other continent to ensure that America and Persia did not become too large (I never had to take action against either AI as they split the continent and neither was able to gain an advantage over the other).

The only hiccup occured when I was unable to declare a second war against England due to a bug. Fortunately I was able to work around this using the MakeWarNotLove bug (the mod does not alter gameplay, it simply activates the "Declare War" button).

I could have achieved victory sooner except that I was somewhat worried about a DOW from America. I built 3 Giant Death Robots against that contigency. I also went overboard somewhat on science; by the time my spaceship was complete I had researched 4 or 5 future techs.

So my plan came to fruition in 1902AD(I was ONE SPACE away from finishing in 1900AD), as my space ship took off.

After 500AD, I spent the next 600 years conquering my continent, first taking out Monty, then Napoleon. I puppeted every city I took, ending up with a whopping 26 cities, only 4 of which were annexed. Unfortunately, I still had unhappiness of 23 after all was said and done. My science was perfectly fine, roughly 300 points per turn, as was my economy, roughly 100 gold per turn, but I had no population growth and no industry thanks to the massive unhappiness. Luckily, I managed to research Astronomy while conquering Napoleon and sent two of my Longswordsmen overseas searching for life. I also took advantage of my economy and started buying happiness buildings to attempt to recover some, but I didn't become happy again until I bought the Liberty social policy for +1 happy per capital attached city and traded with Arabia and Persia for Gold, Silver, and Wine.

At that point, everything exploded. Every city in my civilization began producing buildings and population like mad. For the next 500 years I built up my economy, culture, infrastructure, and science. I found out that trading posts are bugged- the policy that is supposed to give them +2 science only gives them +1 science. I found out that the amount of money you generate from mass trading posts, large cities, and having everything connected to your capital outweighs by far the cost of buildings.

I also found out that while a puppet cannot build a wonder, it CAN build a project...I had to annex Hastings when I realized it had started construction on the Apollo Project sometime in the 1800s.

At the end of the game, my empire was producing 1800 science, 400 gold, and 300 culture every turn. I was allied with every city state that had survived, and every single one of my cities, puppet and annex, was over 12 population, with plenty of room to grow, as some historian popped up in 1890 and said that I had 8.35 extra food per city still, on average.

Only Persia and I remained in this world, aside from the various city states of the world, only 12 of whom remained, since Persia conquered 4 of them.

Rationalism, Ho! (Whoever gets this reference gets a cookie)

seems that it is a reference to Recettear to me.

Overall I think this went pretty well, though I definitely could have done better.

If you read my story in the game in progress thread the remainder is:
Spoiler :
Gandhi fell in short order after becoming a traitor. Continuing the attack trend, I DoW on Liz, and quickly took a few cities. Unhappiness set in across the empire starting a long time war on happiness by the Egyptian people.

France declared on my and I lost two cities as my army was tied up with Lizzy. I made peace with France and finished off England while France also took out the one remaining Aztec city. As I begin to gear up for the French war I notice he has at least a dozen riflemen and cannons. At this point I had skipped most of that portion of the tech tree. I use a few GS's to get up to Helicopter Gunships, and use several of these to destroy the French army. My conquest is considerably slowed due to unhappiness, so France lives, but I liberate 4 (!) city-states from him. I spend most of my time focusing on increasing science and not making some cities production orientated for the space ship pieces. Eventually I build them all after about 80 turns of peace while watching Persia gobble up all of his continent minus one small Arabian city.

Things I learned:
  • Being aware of what is needed for the goal is important. I wasted about 20 turns on techs that I did not need for a space victory.
  • For a space victory, getting two to four good production cities is a good idea. I fell short here, as my best production city was barely getting 75 hammers with a space ship factory.
  • The AI can be absolutely awful with city workers. When a size 6 cities has 2 librarians, a marker worker and bank worker and two tiles being worked while building much needed happiness buildings under the "production focus", there is something wrong
  • I <3 Burial Tombs

This wasn't as easy as the first TSG but my plan worked and it went pretty well.

Early game:

Spoiler :
Tech: Pottery,Calendar,Writing,Philosophy,Mining,Masonry,AH,Wheel,Horseback riding

Build: Scout,Worker,Monument,Stonehenge,GL,Settler,Oracle,Units

Well I settled in place and started to grab some wonders. I managed to get every wonder I wanted and took Theology as a free tech(Great library) so I entered Medieval era very early. Then I allied with 3 maritime and 1 cultured city states and get huge bonuses to food and research(Patronage tree).

After some buildings(Library,Burial thomb etc.) I started to train some horsemen. I had settled Memphis to the north(next to the river) and Gandhi decided to settle his second city just outside Memphis's borders. So I declared war(turn 130) and razed Mumbai and took Delhi easily.

Middle game:
Spoiler :

After war with Gandhi I researched education and took Acoustics with my first Great Scientist so I entered Reneissance and unlocked Rationalism. I also allied with more city states.

Then Napoleon started to capture city states and I decided to declare war on him. I managed to liberate Vienna and Geneva and after capturing Lyons and Orleans Napoleon offered all his remaining cities for peace. I accepted but then unhappiness was very high. So I sold some cities to Montezuma and Elizabeth(get over 2500 gold + 70 gold/turn).

I also researced Astronomy and found the other continent with more city states:D.

I had only 6 cities(2 puppets) but all of them had libraries and lots of population so my research was quick.

Late game:

Spoiler :
After some peaceful building and researching Montezuma captured Rio de Janeiro. I didn't liked that so I declared war on him and liberated Rio. I also took four of his cities(1 razed,3 puppeted) and made peace after that.

At the same time I beelined to Rocketry and used three Great Scientists to take it quickly. After that it was easy to grab remaining techs and build the space ship.

I was really glad to finnish this one today, especially as Ramses as I fly to Egypt in about 6 hours.

I guess it was well as i'm not use with science victory so far. I had mostly play cultural or domination with only 3-4 citys

So, here's the story.

I settle one tile south cause I feel it was closer from ressources and mostly, not on top of the mountain. As Ramsess was a great engineer, he start building Stonehenge and then the piramid right on time. I was a little nervous when I saw the great library already construct somewhere as AI usually build the pyramid before but I still got it. For now, I was focusing on specialist and population to keep growing.

Then, we beeline to acoustic as I want to get to Renaissance as fast as possible. I kept 5 social policy waiting so I can full rationalist (but the 2 free technologies which I wait for latter).

I managed to stay out of trouble up to that era but my continent was aflamme. While switching my farms to trade post to grow a strong economy + rationalist, I had to buy a couple unit and start the war.

I join Gandhi on is war against England
Then, I join Montezuma on is war against Gandhi.

No surprise, Montezuma was a beast on top of these to little friend. But when they go down, Montezuma start rampaging on... city-state.

At that point, I wish I would have gonne for a diplomatics victory. My economy was one of the strongest in the world, plus I have so many people to liberate, that would have been really easy. But we kept on going for spaceship.

I start war against Montezuma to get benefit from liberating city-state. He was way ahead of me. Is military score was about 9 times mine. But... AI suck at strategy I guess cause I kep grudging territory. At that time, I had about 10 city, all out on trade post. No more specialist thou. I use money to build all scientific and economic building.

And game cause on...

Finally make peace with Montezuma when I didn't need the city-state anymore. To encourage him, I start a war with Napoleon who was really backward and block my trade route, settling on my road. Destroy some of is city and then... now that I had all technology require, made peace, give him most of my city and encourage him to go to war with Montezuma. I did that to have the happiness necessary for a GOlden age as it would help building space ship part.

Conclusion, I think you need way more city to get a better score and make sure you get rid of Montezuma fast. I waste a couple thousand on units I didn't want to buy (kept my millitary score around 200 all game, minimum necessary)

It seems the best way to build science cities is to Secularism and get Democracy. Then spam Cities only building Science buildings. 5 is the preferred size as once you get Research Lab you will have a total of 5 Scientist Specialist slots however that's very end game so instead plan for 4 which is the most preferred size for city spamming. And getting both The Forbidden Palace and Planned Economy allows you to spam them without mercy.

With secularism each city provides the following: 52:science: (4 Pop +2 Lib + 20 Specialists)x(1+.50 University +.50 Public School), -3 :commerce: Maintenance (4 Pop -1 Lib -3 University +- Public School), 2  from Specialists. That's a really efficient city. 20 of those is a grand total of 1040:science:, -60:commerce: and only 40 . If they grow beyond 4 pop have them work TPs

Start:
Settled in spot for the first city and settled by the river to the north for the second city. Tried to settle third city further north by the sheep and iron, but some enemy (English?) units were playing blocker and I missed my spot by one turn as India gobbled up prime land. Meanwhile, my capital was steamrolling through GL... unfortunately, I did not realize that the free tech had to be taken immediately, so I ended up failing to slingshot anything. In the end, I settled 4 cities closely together in a straight line up and down my peninsula, blocked by India to the north and Almaty to the west.

Midgame:
I was minding my business being unsure how to expand and tech, getting all the way up to knights, when Monty decided to attack city states all over the place. I liberated Almaty and Rio de Janeiro with two knights, but then one thing lead to another, and some sort of world war (or at least continent war) happened. Through a lot of stop and go warfare, a few knights and trebuchets got upgraded all the way through to cavalry and artillery, and I ended up with only me and England on the continent (and not enough happiness to push any further).

Endgame:
After building up and annexing my new cities for a long time, I tried to finish England off... only to have a bug where I could not declare war on England. So I (foolishly) tried to launch an overseas military adventure, only to lose whatever I sent to Persia (I did not send enough units at a time). Seeing that it was hopeless to attack Persia, I signed a peace treaty... only to find out that it was bugged and gave away all my luxuries (that Persia didn't already have) instead of only 1 of each source. After the unhappiness hit got taken care of, I beelined the spaceship techs and launched. I was worried that someone would attack me, but nothing of the sort happened.

Well, I lost. To the French and Americans. F'ing Napoleon. Was doing quite well up till about 1700AD because I knocked out India with the help of Britain and then helped knockout Britain and Monte with Napoleon's help. It was quite frustrating to put all this work into allying with city-states (I really like the bonuses) only to see not one, but two of the civs (monte and napoleon) get into a perm. war with them for their agression.

Anyway, I think my huge mistake was still thinking of having a small empire because I like to keep my happiness high and I like to build buildings much more than military units. I can see how two difficulty levels makes a huge difference in how the AI can field a humongous army.

Also noticed the trading post bug, total bummer there.

Oh yeah, what's really sad was that I was ahead in tech but was still squashed just due to numbers (i.e. I had artillery, cavalry, and infrantry and napoleon had mostly riflemen and cannon).

Now that I've put in 56 hours of playtime (thank you Steam time-tracker!) I think I'm ready to write a short-review of Civ 5. I think I'm not as impressed as I was when Civ 4 was released, but that might have more to do with the new performance requirements, maybe I'll be happier when I get the new desktop I need.

Anyway, good gotm, maybe next time Prince level?

Well I also lost. I was doing great to begin with...

Spoiler :
Built my second city on the river to the north. Noticed Gandhi directly north of me, and he settled a city north of me. DOW him and conquered both his cities with Horsemen, made puppets of both.

The bad :):):):) started happening. Napoleon left me alone, but both Monty and Eliza DOW me after I conquered Almaty. I held my own to get through Acoustics, but got crushed under their combined armies ><

Maybe next time I'll wait until after Turn 60 to DOW ><

My first space race win! My plan from the beginning was to wrest control of my continent, fill it out while teching up and beelining the space ship parts techs.

My strategy going into the game was to horseman rush the AI. This strategy is just too powerful, and there wasn't really anything the AI could do to stop it. I settled my second city at the southern tip of the little peninsula to get the four horse resource, and teched straight to horseback riding. Rushed Ghandi with the first two and after I had four I proceeded to clear out the continent in a counter-clockwise manner. I razed all of the cities except for the capitals of course, which I puppeted and trade post spammed. Finished off Monty and claimed the continent for myself on turn 101. Meanwhile I chose tradition and discipline as my first two policys and then saved up because I wasn't 100% sure which direction I wanted to go at the time.

The next step wasn't terribly exciting; I started rexxing and beelined astronomy to meet the other civs. I started a gp farm and managed to save up five great scientists to slingshot rocketry. Given all the city states everywhere I decided to go with the patronage route, and eventually I chose the first few on the path to communism in the order tree, but these didn't really arrive early enough to have an effect. I built Chichen Itza and the Taj, and these combined with the great people I received resulted in me being in a golden age for almost the whole game.

After burning my scientists, I researched rocketry in 1600 and finished my space ship of turn 303 (1866). In hindsight, I took a little to long to set up my production cities, and I didn't really optimize my empire for science or anything, so a space victory can probably be achieved much earlier, but I'm feeling pretty good considering its my first attempt at this type of victory.

P.S. w00t first post!

It took a long time to conquer the continent mostly because I procrastinated with a single city building wonders. The wars started around turn 150 and continued to about turn 280. I had 5 or six infantries and a couple of cannons which battled warriors, spearmen, catapults, and occasional musketmen. Monty did not build a single mounted unit even though he had a few horses. Then, I was curious as to how many puppets is possible to annex and eventually, by the end of the game I think I annexed most of them having some surplus happiness at about +20. I really did not micromanage and did not optimize city placement, did not raze a single city and did not build my own. Which is obviously not very optimal way to play this game. It is certainly possible to finish much earlier, probably in 1700 or even 1600AD.
