I haven't looked at the game more than the play through which was pretty quick at the end but how about playing the bishop check instead of taking the h-pawn, not letting him get the rook through to your second rank? Maybe I missed something but that looked good to me for the few seconds it was on screen.

Well 9. ... Nxd4 pretty much would've won me the game from the beginning but yeah, I missed quite a bit in the endgame under time pressure. There were no clocks but we wanted a result before the credits came on so I went for the draw. Even after I butchered the endgame I still had an advantage according the computer because I could've scooped up those pawns instead of checking.

What's new with you Panz? Played in any tournaments lately? I know you don't like correspondence but are you interested in playing in CFC's new tourney (about to start it)?

I'm not really playing much chess anymore. Even quit the chess club mostly because I grew tired of all the work with being secretary, team captain, helping with tournaments for the juniors and so on, not to mention the work with being vice president of the chess federation in the region (equivalent to your "county" in the US I believe). Now I'll just take it easy for a while and maybe I'll rejoin the club in a year or two when they have gotten used to running things without me.

This is from last week. My match game vs. George.

I misplayed a Pirc opening leading to a equal game/slight black advantage. But black allowed me to gain time & space by spending time advancing his a-pawn. I had a slight advantage going into the endgame with many various possibilities but couldn't see anything concrete & my opponent had more time than me so I agreed to a draw.

So the match score remains at 2-1 (our two draws are not counted) with my turn to play black again.

Went down to South Jersey for a Quad there but no one was within 300 points of me unfortunately. Still, I needed the money & I had driven all that way (about two hours) so I played in the quad anyway. It's a funny thing when you're playing down you really feel pressure to "prove yourself".

My 2nd & 3rd games were sloppy (the second one I actually dropped an exchange vs. a 1550 & was lucky to draw, the third I won after my opponent missed a tactic so I won the quad but I went down rating points even though I got 2.5 of 3), the 1st one is the only one worth sharing. My opponent played very experimentally in the opening but it didn't work out so well for him.

19. ... Qxg7 would've been better for black though he still would've been lost.

Up to 1960 USCF now, my all time high. :)

Here's one of my nicer games from a recent quad. One little pawn grabbing mistake by my opponent & it was all over (though he fought on for many more moves just for the hell of it).

Fun lil' 5-minute game, sweet attack out of the opening, probably could've have finished it faster but let my opponent get a little counterplay. Nevertheless, it's hard to come back from losing your queen on move 14.

Yeah, to be fair to my opponent it was a 3 minute game but still, seems like he was following a rote plan without paying much attention to what was happening on the other side of the battlefield, not really a good idea @ any speed.

In the world of OTB I'm drawing close to expert. Just one quad away if I go 3-0 (or I could drop 30-40 points if I go 0-3).

One of my better games from my last quad (really my only good game, the other two I was lucky to draw).

Beat an expert on TV. Albeit a distracted expert in an 8-minute game. (also some footage of me screwing up an even endgame from the recent free Central Park tournament)

Chess Now still has a looong way to go as a show so be gentle. ;)
