There is only one Xcom. Others are X-Com. For simplicity's sake i always call the new game "fake X-Com".

The original, although a great game in its own right, had a number of significant negatives.

It's the other way around. Is the "fake X-Com" a great game in its own right ? Yes, yes it is. Is it as great as the "true X-Com" ? Is it deserving of the name ? No, no it's not. It's a parasite and a cheap marketing ploy.
