Civilization 5 - Game of the Month Training Series Game 96
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\//////////////////////////////////////////

Welcome to the Ninety-sixth game in the GOTM V Training Series! There are plenty of features in Civilization 5 Brave New World to explore and the Training Series games will allow new and old GOTM fans to try out these features in a friendly environment. You are all encouraged to post your questions, stories, advice, tricks and failures in the dedicated game threads described below. You can read more about the GOTM and Training Series concept in this thread. Before going into the details of this game, we would like to ask you to abide to our most sacred rule: don’t replay any turns. If you make a mistake, accept it and try to recover. It's better to do the bad moves in the Training Series instead of in the actual GOTM competition, once it starts.

Please note: If you wish to make a video of your game, please do not post any links to it until after the game submission date has passed. This is because of the potential spoilers that are created by posting before the end date. Thank you for your cooperation.

Intentional use of the Science Overflow Bug is banned. Its use will result in your game being disqualified for results.

In this game, the designated VC is Science. All VCs are enabled but players results will be published by fastest Science victory.

In this game you will play as Haile Selassie and lead the Ethiopian Empire to victory. It's a standard-sized map played at King difficulty and at standard pace. Science is the designated VC for this game. You will have until November 15th to complete the game and submit.

You can also train the Mehal Safari, a Unique Ethiopian melee unit. They start with promotions that give them bonuses fighting in rough terrain and near their capital. They are slightly cheaper to build than the Rifleman that they replace.

This is where you will start:

Information about threads associated with TSG
TSG Announcement thread (this one). This thread is used to announce the game and clarify the settings and rules (don’t be afraid to ask questions). It’s also used to discuss the game before you start, and post problems with opening the save. Please don’t post any information from a game you have started. Instead use the next thread.

Opening Actions thread. This thread is used to discuss the game once it's on the way. There are no reading or posting restrictions as such (apart from normal decency), although we encourage players to use the spoiler tags for screenshots. Here you can post questions related to the game and share your achievements/anger/frustration/victories while you play. During the time the game is active, please do not post any information concerning the game outside of the spoiler threads including screen shots, videos, or recorded/live-cast Let's Plays on other websites.

After Actions thread. In this thread you can post the results of your game. Please state (preferably in the post title) your victory date and score, as recorded in the Hall of Fame, and the most important: your path to glory! We will create a separate thread with the results at the end of the one month submission period (sorted by date and score). Players are encouraged to provide feedback on the game. Some players like to replay the game, and although we will not record the results from a replay, you can still post your new experiences. The game will not be closed as such, but after one month, the results will be compiled, and will not necessarily be updated with reports coming in after the finish date.

File Upload System
We now have a game file upload system you can find here. Please use it to upload your completed first attempt by saving the game on the turn after your victory or defeat. (by using the "lemme play one more turn" feature) Please note, you must submit your game on the turn following Victory. If you continue to play, the game overwrites the data and your submission could be rejected by the submission system.

This game runs for a month and ends Saturday, 15 November 2014.

The save will be available for download on 15 October 2014, midnight Central Daylight time (UTC -6:00) in the US.

The Save can be found here.

Well, there looks like lots of hammers here. I would like to settle on grass for a stone works thingy, but would accept flood plains. My warrior will look SE across the river. There is tundra to the north so it could be a large barb generator. Moving 1 row south might be good.

Um, raging barbarians, never played a game with that. Open Trad then open honor and let that policy pay for itself?
Walk until you find a mountain?

Tundra to the north so send warrior to western copper then see what he sees? Eastern copper looks like a good expo site if there's good dirt west for capital?

I wonder if it's worth opening honor here?
Usually the obvious things are not the best ones... ;)
It will help you, yes, but it will not help you so much that it is worth this path.
In this scenario (king) raging barbs will primarly mean a problem for the AI-expansion, for your first improvements & Traderoutes and you could gain a lot of CS-friends by returning their workers... :)

so many possible pantheons...

Ok so no ruins definitely changes the build order. Stele scout, Or scout stele? And im thinking that archery maybe the second tech

That also makes me think about the path of tradition...

Kind of OCC with much military could also be fun (for the +20% bonus), depends on the neighbours...

Having had a trial run a couple of days ago, I was too slow with OCC until NC so will go for 4-city trad start, probably settling in place. Raging barbs are good at this level for early culture and promotions plus CS quests. No ruins is probably good too as it obviates the randomness. (I take that back if I would have found 20 culture first up!)

Get those cities going and grow ,grow, grow. And get those scouts out there.

The start looks nice. I think I want to open it up with a quick Stele and go Tradition opener first to Liberty free settler, and get some early army to fend off the barbs and demand tribute from City-States if the map allows it.

After some break from playing GOTMs (real life issues and my obsession with achieve sub 200T deity science victory)) I will play this one.

I'm curious how I can handle normal start after playing with great maps ( I can't see mountain near cap  )

I wonder about freedom (if AIs will have enough gold on this low difficulty?)

looks like a fun game. I'm kinda rusty (been playing a lot mindless Starcaft2 and Clash of Clans lately) but this should be a good warm-up for next weekend's CivBE immersion :)

Ok so no ruins definitely changes the build order. Stele scout, Or scout stele? And im thinking that archery maybe the second tech

I would start with a scout, especially if you want to settle second city quickly.

The question now after ther the patch is, whether to go liberty or tradition. Ethiopia might be good for liberty, but will that make science victory more difficult?

Have been lurking the archives and playing some of the old saves from months past, will give this a shot, see if I can get a game in under the wire. Thanks for hosting these! I've learned a lot.
