I hope you all enjoy the map!

If you want to share a map please send me a private message.

Please note that maps you wish to share MUST have map packs disabled, so those who do not have them can enjoy the challenge. To do this, you MUST go into the DLC option from the Main Menu and untick the options ‘Scrambled Nations’, ‘Explorers Map Pack’ and ‘Scrambled Continents’. You will need to do this EVERY TIME you start a new game, or just simply delete the map packs. I suggest you disable these map DLCs on steam directly. Steam will uninstall them, just reactivate them when you need them. Thanks.

Thanks for posting.
Spoiler :
How does the map size compare to a standard size map?

What do folks think -- SIP or the hill on T1? I think I will do the hill just to pick up the sheep. Warrior will move SE first (to the next hill), but I don't see that changing things.

Move settler onto the spices and warrior across the river. Then move warrior onto the hill with the marble and decide from there. Then you have a better look north and south. With all the flood plains around food is plentiful, just have to determine if the hill start is worth losing at least one hill north.

A worthy Petra gamble this one is.

I think I'm gonna go looking for decent production. I feel like a SV shot for a change, so would like a decent spot. Start looks really hammer-light. Will move Settler for a while, KB27787 style.

Two barbarian horsemen spawned out of the blue, has this map been tampered with? This happened well after I cleared any camps in range of my cap, and there was no possible location they could have ran from fog of war into the positions they suddenly appeared, with 5 movement.

That starting location screams DF + Petra. But i'm wondering if settling on the hill north of the river wouldnt be better for a heavier production early and less non irrigable (does that term exis?) desert.

But definitely, with egypts UU, i guess it s fair to bet on petra rush + oracle + not so late NC. And the +2 happiness from UB makes a case for liberty. Maybe a good opportunity for me to try abd grab a CulV.

What would you guys think of a liberty play using the finisher to grab a GE and then rush printed press to insta grab LToP and if lucky use LToP for a 2nd GE for SS ? Could combine that with a reformation piety next for JE or Sacred Site if lucky ?Grabbing ratio opener and secularism before investing massively into aesthetics

Nope.

This is the first time Raging Barbs has hurt me more than the AI, because of
Spoiler :
the isolated start position. There was a period of 10 turns delayed growth and little production for the expos, so this won't be the fastest finish time, but it does look like the safest start position on the DCL so far (perhaps with the exception of #25 ;) )

Settled 1N 3E. Hit a culture Ruin on T4. Currently tanking over Liberty or Tradition.

Spoiler :

Met Byzantium, on T3 so they're close. Not sure where yet but given that I have a faith NW accessible to the capitol I'm also deciding whether I should shrine after scout 2. Probably will though fighting a close Byzantium over religion is rough. Might just chariot rush her to make thing simpler, though this looks like a good peaceful map.

T110ish update

Spoiler :
Settled T7 having picked up Culture, 95 gold and shown a barb camp

Warrior move SE found hills, which I investigated for production, then Sinai, then capital spot. Great scouting, and worth the lost turns.

First citizen worked Sinai and got DF in 2 turns, so growth began T10 but religion was guaranteed.

Decided to go Monument-Worker. Maybe a mistake as I'd forgotten about those barbs. Was really up against it with them until Archery.

T26 picked up 60 faith from a ruin. No other AIs in Africa, it seems.

Will try a religion-based science or culture game, since I won’t be spammed so badly, and this map is not the right shape for my military tastes.

- - -

Ran into happiness and barb problems, but still had NC by T8x and after building 3 more settlers and rush-buying some lighthouses, Education around T107?

Happiness problems persist. I have no excuse, with Burial Tombs and even something I’ve not taken before, the +2 happy from Temples. Maybe its just that I’m growing too fast?

Ah yes, about that…so, I hope I'm not the only one this happens to (wouldn't wanna be accused of too much good luck ;) ) - no one except Purple Dandy had desert and he was busy building Colossus so I was able to get Petra!!!, and no AI went Tradition so I have HG too.

If I can stay happy, I will do quite well out of this 6 city Tradition empire. But none of the Happiness CS are friendly :(

T119 Update

Just got a message that

stole Philosophy!!! Are you kidding me? Acken, I'll do anything I can to help you with that mod. When you had a wobbly start and you still pull ahead in the early Renaissance, you definitely want the game to be harder.

Turn 52 Restart:

JESUS CHRIST BARBARIANS

update: got mauled 2 more times, so I guess I need to build an army before expanding, which would probably result in expos not sooner than T60...

Lost T320, runaway launched on same turn he had CV. My last part was 5 turns out.

Everyone went order, so I did too. I tried Autocracy and had time to Prora, but that just put me further behind.

I went 8 city Liberty, but everything was slow. I did get to hard build Petra, but missed Pyramids by a wide margin (T49). I used Liberty GE for NC. That saved more than a dozen turns, but in hindsight, I should have used it for Petra. Pretty big mistake later was opening piety and then one pick in Aesthetics. I never got a tier 3 Order pick. Next time I skip piety.

Going in, I had hoped to take out one cap with the War Chariots, but terrain was poor.

Cap build order was: scout, scout, shrine, monument, archer, scout, Pyramids

Warrior to hill was a good choice.
Spoiler :
So many ruins! Upgrade then culture for fast start. Open Liberty T6.
T31 take Unescorted Byzantium settler w/ scout.
T38 DF.
T51 Byzantium tries to walk an escorted settler into my subcontinent. Thanks!
T71 Take another worker from Byzantium, then make peace, mostly so I can settle on coast. So many Dromons! Barbs are starting to be a problem. I had two workers trapped across the channel. They end up exploring until I get open borders.
T121 I watch Byzantium settler stumble into barb camp. I could have prevented it so easily!
T135 Byzantium wanders another unescored settler into my territory. I steer it into another barb camp. This will be my 9th worker, hard building none.

Well so far it's in its infancy. The AI seems to perform better with some balance adjustments and the removal of the tech penalty. Seeing Attila do some early conquests and still manage to reach artillery on turn 200, bombers and battleships at turn 230 makes me happy. I'd even bet many players would have trouble against how the AI can currently snowball. Being used to expansionists being left in the dust because of the penalty.
Especially since with the current implemented nerf to NC and Rationalism it's probably a bit hard to reach it much faster for a player.

Don't want to really derail the thread though. When v0.01 will be ready I'll make a thread in the customization forum and who knows maybe propose a map there to see people results :) It will still be very crude and experimental though but people wanting something that isn't an overhaul, with a minimalistic approach should find it attractive. Think of it as the NQMod but with a SP focus.

Looks like another fun map, but I'm falling behind by the rapid rate of challenges. Yeah, that's due to my sporadic schedule, but I'm going to fall off the first page.....

Welll well. Started this game but wasnt aware of the raging barb setting nor the fact it was a Europe type map. So original BO and scounting wasnt quite alright for this and i'm up for a restart after something like 30 turns or so. Damn those raging barbs are a pain. One camp was spawning 1 unit per turn, even witnessed 2 units spawning at the same time on 1 barb camp when i settled 2 tiles away from it and had cleared all units aside one that was out of the camps. Next turn and BOOM, one archer in the camp, the already out unit, and one more warrior.

So i'm thinking

Spoiler :
I'll go with honor opener and farm barbs for culture, i think it's usually worth it when facing raging barbs. In the long run i'm pretty sure it's not optimal culture wise but considering that the african part of the europe map is gonna be pretty lonely, i should be able to get a solid early culture income by farming isolated barb camps which may very well compensate for the late culture loss by allowing a pretty quick early culture growth (faster free colonist ?) and i assume a lot of digging sites. I think it's safe to bet you can farm at least 50 barb units in this spot. Main issue i see coming is happiness as i dont think i'll have the top beliefs for religion. Still planning on trying to use liberty finisher to grab LToP after rushing for Petra, even going printing press before EDU if that doesnt take ages.
