Community Deity Game #1 - Persia

Very fun map, even if I couldn't get the mods to work.

Spoiler :

A. Keep 10 Immortals alive to the turn of victory. You can upgrade them, obviously. - 3 pts. - Nope. Even if mods had worked I didn't get 10 Immortals built.

B. Raze 15 cities throughout the whole game - 2 pts. - Easily. I stopped counting at 20.

C. Enjoy 100+ turns of Golden Age across the game - 3 pts. - Easily. Freedom really helps here, and with the exception of a 5-turn wait for one last GA, I had Golden Age for 64 straight turns at the end.

D. Win a DomV without ever having built trained (including bought) a ranged unit. - 5 pts. - Yes. My only ranged units were an upgraded scout and a CS gift.

E. Finish with a (base) points score of over 3000 - 3 pts. - I went over 3000 upon the capture of Dehli (2nd to last capital).

Modern warfare was a bit of a long ordeal and it would have gone much more quickly if I had been able to upgrade my very experienced former Immortals. Instead, they just went home as garrison units while my FL's and Arties did all of the heavy lifting.

Cathy and Hiawatha both put up a decent fight, but once I got bombers, I beelined to stealth bombers and mowed through everyone. I did build up an 8 unit navy and sailed it to India, but there wasn't really anyone to fight and the fleet never made it around the cape to harass Morocco during that very short war.

Diplomacy was outstanding/lucky all game. Despite my constant warmongering, I was always able to bribe my next target into a war a few turns before launching my invasion. I spent the last 50 or so turns just pumping out units at home to protect previously conquered lands, but nobody ever DoW'd me.

Happiness was a constant struggle until I captured Prora pretty late. Gold was tough and upgrades were only affordable because I was constantly razing cities and selling off their buildings. I had to compromise between selling buildings with specialists, which produced more gold but decreased Freedom happiness, and selling weaker buildings.

I had a couple of nukes at the end but didn't need them so only used one for fun on an unneeded Moroccan city. Morocco also had nukes so using one before the final turn might have delayed the end.

Stealth bombers and jet fighters combined with a very experienced land force were just way too much for stupid AI.

I finished Honor about 10 turns before the ending, so didn't really benefit from all of that gold. Also, Egypt snaked Pentagon from me around t265. I was tempted to go liberate that, but Pharaoh had rebuilt pretty well out in the open ocean after I took his capital and I don't think I could have survived his naval onslaught.

TY ST. That really was a fun map. It would be fun to try to replay that game and go for CV. With Pedro and Pharaoh next door, I'm thinking you'd give them some time to spam some cultural Wonders and then go snag them with Golden Age Cannons.

Now that I've spent hours of grueling warfare, I'm trying to decide if I should finish the grueling warfare Spain game or jump into Harold Bluetooth mood for some grueling warfare. I'm starting to thing there is some grueling warfare in my future.

there's also plenty of grueling warfare in the IAG series as well, a little birdie told me there's an England map in the works which will test the limits of your ruthlessness ;)

I've only tried playing an Immortal game maybe once in the past 2 years since I switched to Deity play. It felt like the timing of everything was different enough that it was almost like a totally different game. Yes, it's usually easier, but the timing really threw me off. I'm not saying I wouldn't play an IAG game or two, but there are a ton of Deity games that I haven't gone through yet, and I don't envision it being as fun if the outcome is decided too early. Please correct me if I'm mistaken, as I try to keep an open mind, but I've not felt any urge to play any other setting in quite awhile.

I do see some pretty good Deity players playing Immortal challenges, so perhaps I'm missing something?

I can't speak for everyone but I kind of grew out of civ several months ago and two CDGs in and 3 months later I found myself enjoying Immortal a lot more than I do on Deity. I guess the increased probability for roleplaying and some really slick achievements seal the deal in the maps I play in the IAG

SD, I too have really enjoyed the Immortal Alphabetical Series - lots of very creative twists! budweiser in particular has cooked up some well thought out concepts. I just finished #10 - Catherine, and it was fantastic. Of course, an experienced player will never be in any danger of losing, but the immersion is so much more fun to me on Immortal. Just do like I do and only take Rationalism to Secularism (or skip it altogether) to keep the mid/late-game more interesting.

Perhaps I'll give that series a look if everyone is going to endorse it. I actually read through a couple of the threads last night. Is there a post that explains the scoring system? It wasn't immediately apparent to me how it worked (the 1/2/3 thing I think).

Nice game :)

Thank you :) Will be trying to get some more of these soon, happy that my second try turned out smoother than my first (w/ Denmark). Starting the Assyria one today. These achievements breathes some new life into the game.

Reading this thread, it seems like this map was created using the "NQ-script". Is this map representative of what this script produces regularly?

Spoiler :
Lots of hills, lots of rivers, some mountains and possibility to get 8 luxuries if founding 6-7 cities. Usually I never see a map where I can settle that many great city spots, has a lot more space than the pangeas I tend to get in my games.

Yes. It has a lot more resource diversity while decreasing the number of mountain ranges and small islands which are generally quite useless
