Maya

Well we cut the majority of our Jungles down when we were at our peak :D. So I honestly don't mind if there is nothing jungle related to do with the Maya. At any of the major Maya sites, the rain forests were only able to grow back once the Maya cities collapsed. Its why some of these really old trees which have been dated only go back either to the Spanish invasions or the dates of collapse of Maya Cities.

Someone had to feed that huge population :p

Pretty sure it wont be something boring, 2kGreg has hinted that it is a little special.

I'm going with they get a free turn where they can play two turns back to back at different points in the game, perhaps the start of every era or every 50 turns or something.

That is the coolest and most unique suggestion I have heard so far. This would be a very awesome UA, although every 50 turns may be too often, at calendar and every age thereafter would be nice.
Might be hard to code though, I don't know. I guess when you hit next turn, the turn counter doesn't change, but you get a free turn.

Not sure it would be that hard to code. Just make it that when you hit next turn, everyone else has their go skipped over in the code and the turn counter goes back one to where it was before.

I would expect bonuses for using jungles; maybe extra production from stone and a special Great Leader named Bird Jaguar who combines the qualities of a great general, great engineer and great scientist and can use two of his skills before disappearing.

I don't think it will be too cool. After all, that'd make the other civilizations look lame in comparison.

Well, as some previews have shown, it seems the UA has been revealed for the Maya.

While not officially revealed, it seems that the Mayans follow their own calendar. Every so often (Not sure about this), they get a 'Maya Long Count Bonus' which looks like it involves getting a free Great Person.

What do people think about this? I'm pretty excited for it to be honest, I LOVE Great People.

It seems to happen after a set number of turns too. I like gp as well. I will probably find myself playing the Maya quite a bit.

Yep.

And admittedly I may try to kill off my own spies because I want to see the list of Gods/Kings/whatever they used for the Maya Spy list. (Or just check the code :p)

so, maybe after every 'long count':mischief:

given or take a translation from years->turn number.

checking the XML might be less fun, but a bit faster.

A Mayan baktun was about 400 years. Assuming you get a GP every 400 years, how many GP will the player get in a game?

theres no way its straight up years

turns are like 100 years each at the beginning, but only 1 year per turn later in the game

that would give way too many early GP.

Exactly. I think there is still something to this UA we don't know about. Also can't be a full long count (because it would take literally too long ie about 5,000 years)

And it can't be a baktun either per great person because of the early passage in time. Calender somehow effects it, so perhaps its like we were thinking for the initial period of time the baktun bonuses give culture bonuses (or something small) and eventually shift to great people.

Probably the GP bonus is not directly influenced by turns, but rather by something else .

Probably. I still feel like we are missing something key for the UA. But at least gives me something to speculate about still. :)

I'm thrilled that I called it perfectly :p

ETA: I said culture boost rather than Great Person, but that's fairly close.

I wonder if it stacks with the Mausoleum.

It also seems the Mayan UB is a piramid (shocking uh?), and you are right Gucumatz, we are missing the key here.

My guess is free prophet at calendar, and GP one every era until industrial (long count).

I think the calendar switches to Mayan upon researching, well calendar, and thats it, I think it will be just eyecandy.

That would be 5 free GP, plus the ones that you can generate along the way, we know the UB will be a piramid, probably a temple replacement, so we have a faith UB, my wild guess, is the piramid yields a bonus for working great improvements. You could still put that extra faith to good use in the late game to buy even more GP.

Mayans...tall versatile specialist empire and great improvements, sounds really fun

Mayans seem cool. (My bet is that they have unique improvement of some kind. What could it be?) Gugumacz wrote they have an unique building so ok :)

I'd like the power of their Unique Ability to weaken in the later eras, as to represent their golden age passing. (I'd like for Civs such as Greece to get their UA weaken over time too.)
