On another note, I'll post my finished second round CFC tourney games with comments soon... I wanna hear what my opponents have to say about them...
Will ashamedly hiding into corner do?

2.Ne2

Okay, so I'm afraid of his dragon. The plan is to play g3, Bg2, c4, Nc3, O-O, etc if he plays d6 or e6.

2. ...Nc6

...but I'm not particular scared of Nc6.

3.d4 cxd4
4.Nxd4 g6

I've always wondered why accelerated dragon players don't play Nf6 first to provoke Nc3 to block the c-pawn...

5.c4

Maroczy bind position, played it against Narz several times in blitz, and have a general idea of what I'm doing.

5. ... Bg7
6.Be3 Nf6
7.Nc3 O-O
8.Be2 d6
9.O-O Bd7

Basic development, all the pieces essentially only have one good square so it's pretty easy. Black had the option of exchanging knights on d4 to place his bishop on e6 but that's about it.

10.f3

This is probably a bit too passive. I wanted to play Qd2, but didn't want to allow Ng4 (though I probably didn't have to worry about Ng4 anyway, don't know if the two bishops really mean much in this position). This also protects e4 and allows my c3 knight to go to d5, for example.

10. ...Nxd4
11.Bxd4 a5

I thought this move was a little funny as it leaves a hole on b5, but it does prevent me from expanding on the queenside with b4.

12.Kh1 Bc6
13.Nd5 Bxd5
14.exd5 Nd7
15.Bxg7 Kxg7

All right, his kingside is pretty pieceless, I control the center, his queenside pieces can't really get over to defend on time, let's try a kingside attack!

16.Qd4+

Getting ready to swing the queen to the kingside via the fourth rank.

16. ...Kg8
17.f4 Qb6

Oops. Should've played Qh4 before f4. Probably still have winning chances with Qd2, but that didn't look all that stable with black starting to get some queenside pressure.

18.Rad1 Qxd4
19.Rxd4 Nc5
20.Bf3 Rfb8
21.Be2 Kg7
22.Re1 Re8
23.Bf1 Ra6
24.g3 Rb6 1/2-1/2

Neither side can make progress.

!?'s are by the Chess.com computer.

1.e4 c5
2.Nf3 Nc6
3.d4 cxd4
4.Nxd4 e5

Bleh, the Kalashnikov. Don't really know it that well.

5.Nb5 d6
6.N1c3 a6
7.Na3 b5
8.Nd5 Nf6
9.Bg5 Qa5+

Uh. Huh. This is awkward. I can play Bd2 (to which he will play Qa8) but then I will have to defend the e-pawn, and the best way to do that is... Bg5. :cringe: Playing as white against the lowest rated player in the group meant I had to play for a win... Maybe I should have played Bd2 and followed it up with Bd3, but I wasn't crazy about that position. So I sacrifice a pawn.

10.c3 Nxe4
11.Nxb5??

The Chess.com computer calls this a blunder (not sure if I agree with it) though I won't say this sacrifice is definitely sound. It's gonna be hard to defend against.

11. ...axb5
12.Bxb5 Bb7??

I thought this was a mistake (Bd7 is probably better, as it breaks the pin and allows the queen the use of the b7 square in a few moves. The Chess.com computer goes as far to call this a blunder.

13.b4 Qa7
14.Be3 Qb8

The reason Bd7 should have been played. Now he could have played Qb7 and defended the c6 knight.

15.Qf3

Now Nf6 is not possible because of Nxf6+ followed by Bxc6. Nf6 would have been possible with Bd7 and Qb7.

15. ...Nxc3
16.Nxc3 Qc8
17.Nd5 f5
18.Nb6 e4
19.Qh5+? g6
20.Nxc8??

Chess.com calls this a blunder of epic proportions but the alternative was not trading queens and possibly giving him later counterplay.

20. ...gxh5
21.Nb6 Bg7
22.Rc1 Rxa2
23.Bxc6+ Bxc6
24.Rxc6 Ra1+
25.Rc1

My opponent thought this was a mistake during the game (I didn't think it was a mistake until several moves later) but Chess.com's all-seeing eye says it's perfectly fine.

25. ...Bc3+
26.Ke2 Ra2+
27.Kd1 Bb2
28.Rc8+?!

(Rc7)

28. ...Kf7
29.Rxh8?!

(Rc7+)

30. ...Bxh8
30.b5?

And after three consecutive less-than-optimal moves the position is suddenly far from won.

30. ...Ra1+
31.Bc1 Rb1?

I guess the computer was calling my moves mistakes because I didn't see Ke6! here which would have lost the b-pawn. Luckily my opponent didn't see it either.

32.Nc4 d5
33.Kc2 Rb4
34.Nd6+ Ke6
35.Ba3 Ra4
36.Kb3 Rxa3+
37.Kxa3 Kxd6
38.Rc1 d4?

MISTAKE - Your opponent made a mistake! Better was 38... Bd4.

That's exactly what I was thinking during the game...

39.b6 Be5
40.b7 Kd5
41.Kb4 Bd6+
42.Kb5 d3
43.Rc5+

I was rather proud of this move as it is necessary to force the king to d4 before going to the eighth rank to threaten the pin. (43. Rc8?? d2 44. Rd8 d1=Q)

43. ...Kd4
44.Rc8 Ke5
45.Rd8 d2
46.Rxd6 Kxd6
47.b8=Q+ 1-0

Nice game Tenna!

Chess.com calls this a blunder of epic proportions
Meh, chess.com calls practically equal moves "blunders of epic proportions" :ack:

And the analysis engine leaves much to be desired really!

My chess wits seem to be at an all-time low - I just lost a dozen or so blitz games, driving my blitz rating below 1300. :ack:
Seems like I was destroyed morally as well as tactically in that game above...

At least I can still beat some opponents...those who start their games with a5.

Hey Yeekim, remember, at least you advanced to round II of the CFC tourney & I didn't! ;)

Here's my most recent game. Fun tactics! :D

I'm a premium member for the next year! w00t!

In my games, it don't look good for me. :(

I've replied in analysis to a lot of games that an early Qh4 (or h5 when white) is often dubious at best.
Unless your opponent has already created a fatal weakness like this Bird's example.

1. f4 e5
2. fxe5 d6
3. exd6 Bxd6 (normal continuation for From Gambit)
4. e4?? (Nf3 is best here, leaving h4 undefended is deadly)
4. .... Qh4+
5. g3 Bxg3
6. hxg3 Qxg3 white resigned

I'm won a few games like that, however against tougher competition I usually just end up down a pawn.

Trying to hold on that pawn...

White : Me
Black : a friend.

1. d4 d5 2. c4 dc 3. Nc3 c6? 4. e3 b5 5. Nxb5 cb 6. Qf3 !

1-0.

:)

Yeah, I've played that trap before during the 6-month or so period when I experimented with 1. d4 (years ago).

Won a nice one with the Dutch defense here. My opponent made it look easy for me, 1. option space advantage, 2. win material, 3. profit! :D. My rating has reached ridiculous heights, it's fun while it lasts.

My games are looking good, but I really can't concentrate on chess right now, as I have six sites left to put up. It's the result of moving to a cheaper web host.

Thanks WhiteEagle! I'm on vacation now, too distracted right now to focus on all my games, may not be back 'till next week sometime. When I get back I'll probably drop down 50 points, I have at least one losing game (some drawing chances but slim).

Game where I sacced my queen on move six vs. a chess program I downloaded called Chess Genius.

This was a blitz game so the moves won't be perfect (not that mine are in long game either :D).

This queen sac is an actual opening played by Dana Mackenzie who's beaten Fritz & GM's (well one anyway) with it! (though if black declines he pretty much gets equality)

-------------------------

Here's one vs. a club player who played a weird opening (caro-kahn morphed into inferior king's pawn opening) and was spanked for it. :D

It's looking very good for me to have a chance to win against Flying_Pig in our game, while I think I am on the road to defeat in the other one.
