Update freeze?

I figured I would check for updates for my BTS game. The menu said, yes, there is an update. I said OK. But then nothing happened. It's been there a couple of hours and I don't see any progress. There is no hard disk activity, and no internet activity. However, whenever I try to go back or something I get this popup warning that I can't because update is in progress.

Is this behavior normal? I'm going to wait another while and then cut it out, which will probably mean a messed-up game and a reinstall. Hopefully in this while anyone lurking around the forum can provide some help?

the ingame updater in BtS is broken - download the 3.17 patch from here and install it outside the game

Ok then mebbe they should update the updater!
