here it is:
my first self-created CiV.1.DOS MAP ... :)

the
DESERT(ed) WORLD - CHiEFTAiN LEVEL
1 huge landmass continent
(85% land, 15% ocean at map)

i hope
you will like this map -
have a good time playing it. :)
i did need ~ 6 hours
of work to make it look best.

i don't want to tell you too much about it
maybe this: no ships in need - :D
every hint else would maybe spoil your fun.
...
simply imagine a situation after a catastrophe
where the tribes start again;
don't worry -
you will always find good spots for cities... ;)

the first attached SAVEs
down below
are
CHiEFTAiN LEVEL

that means:
it's enough space to explore,
you have time to build some big cities before your enemy is pressing -
you can explore that continent without haste.

attention:
i have to rename CiV.DOS files here at forum
because i can't attach Civ.DOS MAP or SVE file extensions directly
in a "civfanatics forum" (very strange, but sadly true).

so the attached
Civil0.txt is NO TEXT file - it's the Civil0.MAP file
Civil0.sav is NO CivNet file (or else) - it's the Civil0.SVE file

BOTH files are in need to load a map / scenario into CiV.DOS:
Civ.DOS needs 2 savegame files -
you start as
Caesar of the ROMANS in CHiEFTAiN LEVEL
in 3980 BC.

RENAME
Civil0.sav into Civil0.sve
Civil0.txt into Civil0.map

and copy it to your CiV.1.DOS folder to play... ;)

HOW TO RENAME FiLE TYPES / EXTENSiONS / SUFFiXES
with winXP / win2000

i am on win98se
and dunno much about winXP / win2000 administrative/security settings
but i try to help those members on winXP / win2000 who have no idea what to do.

at -for example- windows 98 second edition
you are just able to change file suffix like *.txt and so on
if you can SEE for example
Civil0.sve
written this (DOS) way (= Civil0.sve )
(not just "Civil0" and something like "SVE file" 'down under' )
in your (CiV) directories window ( "win'95 style" ).

in win98se you just have to go
to ViEW
(at directory window)
and from there to something like " Directory Options / Preferences "
there maybe again into something like " ViEW " (or "settings") (above)
there maybe into something like " Advanced Settings "

anyway

you may find
after all anywhere
a field

where you can
"check" (X)
or
"uncheck" ( )

a lot of options.

the most important in 'our' case here
is something like

" show all files "
- check this

and something like
" (don't) show (known) ... suffix / data / filetype "
- uncheck or check this to 'make ALL FiLETYPES/SUFFIXES' visible...!

...maybe you will be able to rename suffix/filetype after this procedure...

DESERT(ed) WORLD - EMPEREOR LEVEL
1 huge landmass continent
(85% land, 15% ocean at map)
.
.
.
the attached SAVEs down below are
EMPEREOR LEVEL
that means:
AWFUL HARD:
1. BARBARiANS SMASHiNG (even) YOUR Ai OPPONENTS
2. YOUR Ai OPPONENTS ARE PRESSiNG
3. NEARLY NO TiME TO EXPLORE
4. FEW TiME TO DEVELOPE / iNVENT
- just fighting for your existence...

The same 'planet'/MAP -
another tribe & start location:

The City of Washington is already founded (o.k. location) -
1 Militia already produced.

Nice scenario. I've just conquered the world (Emperor level) at 580 AD and got my highest score in Civ - 164%. The game is too easy, however. I think you may somehow isolate some of AI civs. For instance, you can place a lot of mountains in the centre to divide the continent into two parts.
