Gurra's Civilizations

I got the unit model to work after LeeS pointed out to me that I hadn't checked the box to reload the unit system. I should have thought of that, I mean this is not even my first mod with a custom unit model in it.

Anyway, have some Knights of St. John with their proper model à la danrell:

Oh, and I tried out this new black color scheme (mainly because the Knights came in black) which looked really cool. Plus it makes more sense for a more general Knights Hospitaller civ to go black/white because those are the Hospitaller colors as opposed to the Maltese red/white. I made icons to go with it too:

My only concern is that these are probably the same colors that MC's Buccaneers already use. But I like the black/white scheme so much! (And it was the best way to please my eyes when the Knight model didn't adjust to civ color. :p)

>mfw Luník IX is on the Gypsy city list

Truly, a display of Romani culture.

I would suggest including Žakovce - it's a Slovak gypsy town that was made popular by the efforts of a Christian priest Marián Kuffa, who built a rehabilitation centre there for all kinds of homeless people, drug addicts, and other failures, so to speak, to help them get back on their feet. It's one of the most well developed Gypsy towns in Slovakia, if I do say so myself.

Well, as I said the city list is veeery preliminary and I only copied the names from that wikipedia article which wasn't really satisfactory given that they are all modern and some of them just slums like Lunik IX as you mentioned. I'll redo it when I get back to the Romani.

Anyway, Romani civ is only my third mod priority now after the Knights Hospitaller and an update for the Sikh Empire. I have been working on the latter today, fixing some things and starting on Events & Decisions support. LUA is not really my thing but I have managed to get a framework for a decision to work, and worked out a design which I will try to make reality. (Currently the decision does exactly nothing and can be enacted over and over again for more added nothingness.)

So, if the Sikhs have researched Architecture and has a Gurdwara in at least one of their cities they can enact a decision which will build the Harmandir Sahib in one of their cities. I borrowed this world wonder from More Wonders but changed the stats a little:

(Note that the wonder won't be buildable in the final version, I just made it so to test it out and get these pics.)

I'm not too familiar with what is actually achievable in LUA since I'm just beginning to try and learn how to do it, but I would like to set up some kind of priority as to which random city with a Gurdwara to put the wonder in. I don't know if the Faith from Specialists work globally or locally but if it is the latter it would be nice if the player could actually gain anything from that. So preferably the wonder should be built in a city that has a Gurdwara and the most number of already built Guilds. Or at least in a city that has at least one of the Guilds if such a city exists.

Also, I can make you icons. Are you sure about the Romani colour scheme though? The red chakra is the primary symbol of the Romani, so I'd say the foreground colour should be red. The background should be either blue or green, your pick.

I tried to choose between blue/red or green/red since the Romani flag has blue-green background and the wheel(?) in red. But in my opinion blue/green looked better in the game colour-wise.

As for icons I already made one for the blue/green colour scheme:

Deus Vult?

Thanks for the music suggestion!

About the icon: my civ is not a Knights Templar civ, it's the Knights Hospitaller (different things). And that icon is for a Templar Knight because their colors are red cross on white. Hospitaller Knights had a white cross (slightly different shape aswell, I think) on black background.

Other than that, great icon! But I have no use for it in this particular civ.

I'd say the chakra should be red, it's the most iconic thing. Red on blue looks fine anyway. I made an icon with Sukritact's template, if you wanna use it, great, if you don't, I'll remake your current icon using the template.

Blue/red does not actually look bad, and you're right that the red wheel is more iconic. We'll see what color I end up using but if I go with blue/red I'll be using those icons. So thanks for making them! :)

Now if anyone who knows lua or has experience making custom decisions looks by I could use some help with my Sikh decision. I made a separate thread about it over here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=13853051

Well, That was embarassing, I thought you're making a civ for Knight Templar , although the music would still do. Then, what about this?

I concern about current black/white color scheme as it's the same one as Patria Grande pack' Buccaneer, You may want think of possibility that it border on each other. :)

@Nix I want to know how you make red Gypsie icon looks... red. If one use Sukritact's template as is (in CS3). The upper side inner would looks desaturated and more like a shade of pink.

This has actually been done for a while but I never released it... version 3 of Sikh Empire is now out with Events and Decisions support. It's nothing big, just one civ-specific decision about renovating the Harmandir Sahib which gives you a Harmandir Sahib world wonder in one of your cities.

The Harmandir Sahib wonder gives you +1 faith for each Artist, Writer, and Musician specialist. For this to work properly you need whoward's DLL, which means you'll have to use either his DLL - Various Mod Components or another mod which uses the dll as a base such as the Community Patch. You can still play the civ without whoward's dll, but the wonder won't do what it's supposed to do.

Credit for the wonder goes to the More Wonders team. Edit: And many thanks to LeeS who helped me out with Lua for the decision.

Download links are the same as before, you can find them in the first post.

Nice to have one decision, but there are more coming, right? And events?
Also, does the mod support CulDiv? If yes, is it in the Bharata culture group?

Oh hey that's cool! Good to see you haven't totally vanished hehe.

Thanks! As for vanishing, I often work very intensely on my modding projects when I get a new idea and then let them rest for a few months. That's just the way I do it. :p

It would be fun to add some more, I just need ideas for decisions I can actually code. I wrote this decision back in June and that's the last time I touched it (and the first time I wrote Lua that worked). As for events I haven't thought much about those.

And yes, Punjab supports CulDiv as you can read in the first post or on any of the download pages. ;) It is in the Bharata group.

Edit: I actually had a decision idea which was quite interesting but I'm not sure if it is Punjab-specific enough, and it seemed quite advanced to code (if at all possible) so I didn't go anywhere with it. The idea was based on the fact that the Sikh Empire changed its capital when Ranjit Singh captured Lahore, so I thought - what if the first city you settle is Gujranwala and when you have founded your second city (Lahore) you would get a decision allowing you to move the capital there for a lump sum of gold? There would then be a Sikh-specific Palace building for Lahore, providing some extra yield (I was thinking 1 or 2 faith) to make the move worth it.

I had a look at my Knights Hospitaller civ yesterday, trying to get back into the modding saddle after taking a break. A few things:

Imported the unit icon for Knight of St John that poom3619 made for me. It's not perfect yet because I must have accidentally made the circle a bit elliptic considering how it looks on the right edge, but it looks really nice. Thanks poom!

I removed the "never dies with the last city" part of the UA because that just makes you live forever even when you lose your last unit - this mechanic comes from the Korean scenario where guerillas spawn but I'm not doing that. I'm open for suggestions as to what I could add do the UA other than what I already have, which is "+1 Faith and Culture from Walls, Castles, and Arsenals" - also, should I add Military Base to that list? That would give the faith/culture bonus to all defensive buildings, but I thought military base might be too modern for the scope of this civ.

Another thing about the UA - the faith and culture is assigned through unique buildings which makes them all listed in the Civilopedia under the Knights. Is there a way to hide them from the Civilopedia so that there aren't two Walls/Castle/Arsenal in the buildings list? I would still like them to show up in the city view though since they're supposed to act like their original counterparts. This is just a minor annoyance though, I can totally live with having them around in the Civilopedia if there's no easy fix. :)

Last but not least I was thinking of what JFD culture group to assign the Knights. Since they are on Malta and Italian and all, the Southern group would make sense. But I was also thinking about Western since Knights came from all over western Europe - I thought it wouldn't be too far fetched with France and Spain being in that group. What do you think - Southern or Western?

Southern. They don't fit in the western group at all.
