Disk space: A large portion is temporary swap space.
I do agree since this is a steam game that it would be more useful to list download size so we'll know if we'd go over dataplan limits.

The first comment about lap tops is very much outdated. When Civ IV vanilla first came out, lap tops bought recently were largely below minimum video specs.
But by the time Warlords came out, the lap tops video cards were up to that level and also the folks at Firaxis were able to make changes so that the game was much better at supporting the lap tops below minimum video specs. (The same ones made the game faster for those at bare minimum).

My next notebook was much better and had no issues with Civ IV : BTS. It was slightly dated when Civ V came out, but by sticking to DirectX9 and minimum video spec it had no problems.

My current notebook runs Civ V great.

There's people who are playing Civ V on tablets now with no problems. (I would personally want a bigger monitor than that)

Yes, this is 2012, and SSD drives are the way to go (if you don't have one it may be time to upgrade there, bud!) but they are still not consumer price friendly to get a really large one. I have a 185GB SSD drive where Steam is installed and when I got this new SSD drive (IN 2012) I had to remove about 90% of my games so that I still have room for normal computer stuff (not data, music or pictures, other computer stuff).

If I were to install all of my steam games on my desktop computer it would take up approximately 750GB in disk space. So, yeah 8GB isn't much compared to 750GB but if using SSD drives, then every GB counts.

Now my personal belief is that this 8GB will be the 5.0+GB of the base game plus about 2.5GB for the expansion and the remaining 500MB will be for installation. But that is only my guess on the matter based on how so many games before it have worked.

I now use a program called windirstat that tells me exactly what is using every last byte of space on all of my drives so that I can see if there are ways for me to conserve. For example in my SSD drive I also have beyond Steam a Games folder that I put all of my games and was able to free up about 25GB in two games that I haven't played in quite a while now but even forgot they were installed and certainly didn't remember that they were taking up 25GB of disk space.

I think others might want to try that program if they are low on space so they can see if it's junk taking up their space that they can delete or move to backups or if it's really necessary and they really do need to get larger drives to accommodate all that they have.

I'm gonna guess they're doing it the same way as BTS for Civ4,Where you can install the expansion without the normal game.

The Steam Store cleary stated you require the base game to play the game.

AIs turns take a while, but that seems to be the case for everyone. And the random chance of getting Askia's or Moctezuma's leaderscreen force me to put "leaderscreen quality" on low. That fire really eats up my laptop's resources...
Obviously you've never heard of the Alienware series or gaming laptops in general .

I've been using laptops to play games for a good 6 years now. My latest machine has a quad core i7 processor with turbo accelerator, 2GB gforce graphic card, 16GB ram and solid state hard drive. It plays Civ5 on huge maps beautifully, at HD resolution.

But that would cost as much as a new desktop! . Seriously, I got a SanDisk Extreme 120GB and CiV runs really fast

How much does RAID 0 help with how fast SSD already is, especially since you lose all data if either drive fails?

But on a 24" or 27" monitor?
