I don't like the idea of giving a "new wonder" a benefit from a "old wonder",while giving to the "old wonder" another benefit . For Petra,I think that instead giving them a bonus of "Macchu Picchu",why not give a new bonus, like a faith bonus for each trade route?

The way I see it, we'll need more than one Faith boosting World Wonder. Stonehenge is currently the only one that's available and it's very early. Machu Picchu sounds like a good candidate to me to get changed as well, especially since it's no longer at Currency.

It's after the Renaissance that the influence of religion starts to decrease. It's during the Medieval and Renaisaance periods that religion is at its most powerful.

Isn't the Alhambra also replacing the spot of Himeji Castle? Amazing the switches things are getting.

It's true Petra was, off and on, a crossroad for caravan trade, and thus I expect comes your consideration for it to be an economical bonus. There's a very good reason, tho. Petra is (until the last 80 years with modern artillery and bombs) a particularly defensible position, so much that Lawrence of Arabia successfully holed up in there with a small force in October of 1917.
I think it should give great merchant point(s). I think the primary bonus, tho, should be defensive, as an early castle, perhaps. Definately more than walls. |

[QUOTE]Well, we know there is at least one change: it's not in the same place in the tech tree. Since Wonder effects are generally balanced around the point in the game where they become available (who'd build the Pyramids or Stonehenge in the Renaissance, or Macchu Picchu in its current form before researching The Wheel?), that makes it highly likely the Macchu Picchu effect has changed.

It could have a similar abbility to Octavius Cutler in one of the scenarios: +1 Gold from strategic resources.

Both of these wonders were connected to trade routes, so i like this idea. If Machu Pichu does lose its current effect it should definitely be a Faith-based version of the old Machu Pichu with Petra taking the current effect. It would be very characterful of both wonders.
