Willem van Oranje/Sirius Diplomacy

Hmm... well just great. Snaaty says Mids, and Dmoc thinks Machinery.

I'll tell Willem we can't do the trade because we dont' think we'll get value from it due to the attitude of the other two leaders?

I think Pyramids, then trying to generate a 2nd engineer for Machinery.

I would like to call it "Operation: Have your cake and eat it too"

i´m totally against changing plans last minute. we can bulb theo with a priest we can generate in about 10 turns in the capital for having some trade fodder. with theo we can easily do the same trades and 10 turns more wont kill us.

also i´m against doing any trades right now to the "allied forces", better meet pacal and the other team and trade with them. helping the allied is only going to make things worse for us...

we should stick to the plan:

settle as many cities as we can, run specialists with rep, grow big and such...

Build the Pyramids, stick to the plan, we didn't go for this without a reason.
Machinery won't do us any good at this time. :p

I'm a little confused... I'm not arguing AGAINST Pyramids -- I'm talking about our NEXT great person.

Pyramids all the way, in case there was still confusion.

So... we should start to research the theo pre-requisit then not too many turns from now. We did get a lucky break that Willem didn't DoW on us. Seems to be a mistake on their part.

What I don't like is we ignored teching IW, which I think is the biggest mistake.

we basically only need writing and medi for bulbing theo:)

and to answer the question about our "plan":

1. get oracle (checked)
2. pick MC (checked)
3. get GE (checked)
4. get Pyramids (-> PLAN)
5. get sailing and settle as many cities on the central island as possible (-> PLAN)
6. get forges and units while regrowing settler whips (-> PLAN)
7. get 3rd city on island with granary and forge with as many forests intact as possible (-> PLAN)

and my suggestion about research:
FIRST THING:
-> keep research turned off some more turns, trying to meet the other nations, then, IF we cant trade anything:
research writing
research medi
bulb theo with priest
research iron

and if at that point we still cant trade anything, even with theo as bait and knowing all nations, we are sort of... ...you know...

With our Mids + 1 GE we can get 10 pts a turn. After 300 we can get another GE. Since it will take a while to build/chop forge + AP, maybe it's best to just rush it with the GE in ~30 turns?

We could save the trees for our invasion force vs Carthage...

We also could run another priest with the GE to gamble on fidelity, but get it much sooner.

right now we need both our cities to get out settlers and units. i dont see us having the possibility to run an engineer or priest within the next 10 turns or so. after that maybe...

-> we need a WB for our new city to get clams up. also will help us with our health problem on the island

I was going to switch to Police state and chop WB first, then Trireme second, then charriot third. The granary has to wait, we have important stuff to do.

Sommer the DOLT keeps trying to check up our attack power, let's give him something to be weary about...

From PVM:

Mike, please write up an official diplo e-mail for them.

Dear obsolete,

Thanks for your frank assessment of the situation. Unfortunately, there is disagreement among our team members on how to proceed as well, and I can't guarantee you that we would agree to trade for Machinery at this point. Given these circumstances, perhaps it is best that you pursue The Pyramids. We weren't planning to build them ourselves, so we would not be terribly upset if you did so.

Please direct any future correspondences to our team email address, and we will assign a permanent diplomat to handle our dealings.

Best of luck,

Trystero

Like snaaty says, save gold, build mids meet the unallied.

I like blockading the Q with some boats, deny them the island we are about to settle.

I'm going to send these guys a message tonight after I update the sandkasten.

Should we offer them gold for Writing?

If so, how much?

I wonder if it's decent if we pay half price in gold what techs are in beakers?

Greetings Team Sirius,

First, we would like to thank you for your graciousness in offering open borders with us. It seems this is a start for a strong friendship.

As you may already know, we elected to construct the Pyramids with our great person, rather than discover Machinery. This does not exclude this possibility from occurring in the future, however, as the Mavericks are Philosophical in nature, so keep the potential for a Machinery tech trade in the back of your mind.

We have a great deal of coin in our coffers, and would like to offer some to you in exchange for the technology of Writing. How much gold would you require in exchange for these secrets?

Regards,
TheMike
