OK, there seems to have been a great misunderstandment
here.

I will continue to work with ACW at CivFanatics (and support
it), but I will abstain from write on it in Cdgroups.org.

OK, I then suggest we proceed with the work.

Yes, well, first thing I need to know is if Version 2.00PREd fixes the 76% crash (it loaded fine for me with the .bic file). I doubt it will though. After I get the next update up, I'm going to focus on hunting down this bug with the time I will have for the scenario.

Any and all information regarding any crashes should be posted here.

I'm also going to redo the Install.txt file with the new update...so that its less confusing. The scenario is fully playable and bug-free (far as I know) on vanilla Civ3.

I've updated the Install instructions for Civ3 on the first page of this thread. I hope now they are MUCH easier to read. :)

Yesterday I upgraded from 256 MB RAM to 512 MB ram.
I thought that I should have something to report on
impact on ACW, but this report have been delayed,
since I had to spend 7 hours uninstalling, reinstalling
removing CIVIII/PTW from HD.
Several times I even got message "no disk in drive"
in french!!!

Copy protection is okay with me, but it should not be
so sloppy done that legal owners suffer.

Playtest after upgrade from 256 MB RAM to 512 MB RAM:

Waiting time between turns not reduced (perhaps no
surprise).

Scenario seems to be 100% stabile. No more 76% crash.

76% crash seems to be solved!
It will be of great value if you can confirm that.

Yep, I loaded it (PTW) with no crash.

Played it for a while (takes long time just for the first turn) and enjoyed. I think you could change many units though (like minuteman to replace musketeer...) especially the "barabrian unit": the Iroquois mounted warrior would be much better than French musketeer ! :p

Thank you for your comment, LouLong.

The first turn of the scenario is very long, and
I think that`s a problem that should be tackled
in some way. Maybe one could factor out many
of the Home Guard-units.

Concerning replacing units, I agree.
Hopefully the scenario now is 100% stabile and
replacing units in the manner you propose should
have high priority.

Rocoteh

Once you fortify all those Home Guard and Garrison units (which can't move), later turns should go faster. :)

I'm still working on the issue of Home Guard units, one of the later Beta Versions did reduce their numbers by a decent amount.

So, if I'm correct on this, the 76% crash problem has been solved by simple editing of civilopedia.txt and pediaicons.txt with a few things missing from the PTW versions of each which I missed the first time???

Over the next 2 weeks, here are going to be my priorities:

1) Finish Version 2.10PRE. (I'll look into the cavalry in the west, LouLong, I know the Regular Army cavalry was very small in 1860/61. If you have any figures about western troop placement with regard to cavalry in 1860/1861, they'd be most helpful.)

1a) Find ways to get first turn to go faster (I'll see what I can do about Home Guards).

2) Add custom unit graphics for as many units as I can find.

3) Finish civilopedia.txt.

LouLong: Thanks for your feedback. :)

I'm thinking processor speed has more to do with it than RAM. Though I think less than 256 MB RAM will probably increase the amount between turns.

The important thing is, the 76% crash seems to be gone. :)

Once again a day of frustration. Infogrames sloppy
copy-protection have stopped me from further play-
testing the whole day.

I made a post in tech-support about this.
So far only one answer and that person think
Infogrames policy is OK.

I DO NOT !!!!!

I am a legal owner of CIVIII/PTW and do not think the
current copy-protection is acceptable.
After working 8 hours with this I finally found a "go around
solution" by creating more user-accounts.

Hopefully I can now come with more playtest reports.
A six turn playtest (Union Human player) indicates that
CSA will have a better chance in the east.

Is the CSA too strong in the east, is that what you're saying?

I didn't really adjust troop #'s over in Virginia, just the sizes of units.

If Manassas is the problem, I can change the terrain that it sits on from Hills to Grassland.

No CSA is not to strong in the east.
I mean that play-balance seems to be better now.

Argh...I don't have enough figures to fix Kentucky yet.

I'll have to leave it the way it was (though I am fixing the cities placement).

Well, its nice to see that play-balance is more equal over there.

I wish I could make Kentucky more realistic...but for now I'm going to have to leave it as November, 1861, which is unfortunate. I thought I had enough figures to fix it but I don't.
