I read that I have to enable SECDRV in the registry, but there's no trace of it in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\.

Any suggestions?

secdrv is not your problem. That is the copy protection scheme used on the disc version. Steam does not use it. I don't use Steam, so can't help with that but you can stop looking for secdrv. A Steam user will probably be along shortly with suggestions.

I don't have Win10, but one thing to check is if you have DirectX 9 installed.

Win10 comes with DirectX12 iirc, but Civ4 needs DirectX9. It won't conflict with DirectX12.

I have Win7, which has DirectX11, everything running fine with DirectX9 installed for Steam's Civ4.

Just got my new computer with Windows 10, and came on here to see if anybody knew how to make Civ 4 run on it. Guess It's time to throw out all the old discs and download it on steam. O well.

The procedure for Windows 10 is more complicated than that. Read it as from here.
