Venice- 5 (+1) I think Venice is lots of fun....and some seemingly crappy locations have turned out very well....you do have to be on the coast....the trade routes... I've had some really fun cultural wins as Venice.... The idea that you can't send out settlers is a little frustrating at first but there are work arounds and the power of the GM more than offsets this....as long as there are some reasonable CS's nearby...... I try to grow Venice as big as possible and not take the first CS for as long as seems reasonable in the circumstances.... [Edit: In my last game I had probably a dozen ...maybe more, puppeted cities...[I should add that almost all were conquered cities ..not GM purchased CS's]. The fact you can purchase things in the city...buildings, military, caravans, cargo ships, is ...well..great...you just can't tell the puppet what to work on....but they seem to be programmed to work on things like the "World's Fair", though you may have to buy the thing they are currently working on first]

England - Pure warmongering civ that has good but short-lived units that serve entirely different purposes. There are probably worse civs but none are as overrated as England.
Poland - Solidarity is just crazy overpowered and the hussar is no slouch either, BNW civs are generally better than old ones and Poland feels like the best of them all.

While Russia's UA can be useful sometimes, its terribly bland, the Cossack doesnt seem outstanding, and the Krepost is IMO the worst UB in the game.

The new Germany I like a lot because it has very solid gameplay now and something good for early, mid and late game. You can go freedom or autocracy all the same and be very effective doing it.

Because anyone who dislikes the restrictions will vote them down, same reason India to got voted down quickly as well. This doesn't mean they are bad, just that they play in a different way and not everyone likes that.

I don't think Japan are terrible either, I have had some fun games with them even before the patch. However I doubt I will vote for them and they will be an easy target for early elimination.

My question is why Russia is almost eliminated?

Brazil has some interesting stuff going for it, but the lack of production from a jungle start is killer. If you do get a good start with a bit of jungle but not an overpowering amount they can do a pretty killer culture game. Seems like too big of a tradeoff for a bonus towards only one VC.

Korea on the other hand is amazing, not sure why they got down voted. They are one of the few civs with a science advantage in a game where science is the most important factor.

Arabia- 21 - Their UA has got some amount of hate, but increased caravan range can be useful if you are landlocked. I've had quite many of games where i've mostly used land routes either because i'm landlocked or there's no good coastal cities to trade with. Double oil is nice for late game warfare and religion spread is nice even though civ doesn't have anything else to support religion. So the UA is pretty decent, however what makes arabs great civ is UU and UB. UB gives massive amount of free cash, especially on big maps, and UU is one of the best UU's in game. Camels can also be played defensively, if you want peaceful gameplay (21 ranged strength in medieval is nothing to mess with).

Inca are my personal favourite. Aesthetically, they have a nice colour scheme, my favourite city graphics and those terrace farms make your land look unique and attractive. Slinger is good for early, less risky barb hunting, terrace farms make crappy city spots great, and their UA is basically free money and a permanent advantage in wars. The AI Pachacuti is normally a strong one, and I love his leaderscreen (even if he does act like the teenager he is.) I played these so much that they seriously gimped my ability to play other civs.

On the other hand, Songhai. Ugly leaderscreen (seriously, ou of all the warmongers in the game this guy is the one with a burning city we're supposed to be afraid of? please), ugly colours, useless AI, average UU and an ability that is overshadowed by Germany and Assyria. The UB is pretty good though.

Shoshone- 20 - While their bonuses might not seem as all round powerful as some other civs, they mainly come into play right at the beginning of the game, giving you a fantastic headstart. 2nd UU isn't fantastic, but it makes a nice mobile city capturer when you turn that headstart into arty spam

Polynesia- 17 - 3 = 14. The ability to explore everyone at the start is nice, and the fact that the Maori warriors special ability carries upon upgrade is cool, but tbh every time I've used them I've found them a bit lightweight compared to other civs with more powerful abilities, units and buildings. Your best option for victory is probably to spam the unique upgrade (those head things like on easter island, forgotten the name) along the coast and push for a cultural win. But compared to other naval factions I think they are underwhelming and a bit of a novelty faction.

Portugal- 15 + 1 = 16. I like Portugal. They play like Venice, but without the expansion restrictions which make lots of people hate them. All their unique things sync nicely too; the Mau allows you to explore quicker, better and get some extra gold for it; once the Mau has found those city states your unique improvement means you can get their resources for nothing, greatly increasing your gold and happiness; and the UA means that the resource diversity you get from all these different luxuries from all over the globe will make you ultra ultra wealthy. Played correctly Portugal can be a superpower.

I initially thought that the Shoshone would be dull, but after playing them yesterday I'm sold. It's a different game with them. You don't need to start with pottery (who cares about shrines when you can gank a pantheon through ruins?), you can position your cities in interesting, strategic ways (e.g., closing bottlenecks, utilizing the second and third rings with ease), and you're virtually guaranteed the opportunity to rush and cripple a neighbor with CBows. I think some people make the mistake of using the CBow pathfinders to try to seize their neighbors capital. IMO, that's a bad move. The stonger move is to grab their worker, enslave their first settler, pillage any improvements, snipe their units, then peace out for cash. The warmonger gain is negligible, but the two free workers, cash, promotions, and lack of a strong neighbor really help to propel you in the early turns.

As for Byzantium, I hate playing them on higher difficulties where I'm not going to get an early religion. Getting an extra religious bonus when all of the good ones are already taken stinks. They need a faith boost or some way to compete in the early religion grab. Also, cataphracts are dull. The only thing the Byzes have going for them is the Dromon, which I admit is a really great unit.
