Greece: Units might be stronger, but not more fun to use than their regular counterparts. Legions can build roads, conquistadores can found cities and are used in a completely different way than knights. Heck, even turtleships are very different from carracks and thus a better UU than the Greek ones.

Egypt: Burial tombs give happiness throughout the game and are therefore superior to any short lasting UU.

Ethiopia: fast panteon and religion, good at defense. A really well-made combo.

Babylon: I don't need a so easily obsolete unit, specially with Babylon's early science. The Walls aren't THAT useful too.

I disagree with most people about babylon the walls have helped me in many rough situations I have had many games as babylon and I am attacked and had no units execpt a scout in the city and they can't even hurt the city they are dead before they make a dent. The bowman are really good barb killers you don't to escort with a warrior with bowman.

Japan they're uu's uu's just aren't good they are useless the samurai although is very shortlived the babylonian bowman lasts longer.

Russia: Expand quicker, make stronger cossacks, expand quicker. A nice and powerful cycle that ensures russia gets the rescources it needs.

Huns: without their UA to get those horse archers quicker the huns can't really pull off that early rush, and will quickly fall to the wayside after the classical era.

+Spain: Conquistadors are pioneers in colonization. Their extra sight, defensive embarkation and ability to settle cites and city attacking make conquistadors very versatile and powerful. It's extremely fun to use them to conquer other civilizations. Tercios appear in the exact time when you need more soldiers. +50% versus mounted is always useful because lancers are a main treat to ordinary musketmen and AI knights are sometimes annoying. Tercios are solid units that work well with conquistadors.

-Babylon: bowmen will be quickly get obsoleted by CBs and bowmen have no useful promotions to carry on. The building is just worse. Wall UB is a non-factor in the game.

Better keep this one going!

- Babylon: As above, the UA may be sweet, but the bowman upgrade doesn't carry over (obsolete very early), and the UB doesn't come into play too often.

+ America: I have a number of choices for "favourite", which I'll be spreading around, but the Minuteman is under-appreciated: a unit usually made en-masse that can out-maneuver opponents? Sign me up! And the B-17 makes late-game crushing easy!

Greece: still: two boring UUs. Egypt: neat building, while it makes you a nice target, the AI is immense incompetent when fighting wars (at least without the massive cheats it gets on immortal and deity level) so that's not a problem in single player.

+Greece: I do agree that they are not the best, but I think it deserves a higher point. Hoplite can clear barbs and camps and perhaps rush one of your neighbors. CC's fast move and General spawning rate shouldn't be overlooked.

-Russia: Cavalries are too weak compared to Gatling Guns. Barracks are not necessary to build in every city and the -25% cost is too small to compensate for production cost.

Greece: Two strong units and extra great generals allows you to lash out early like no other. You can crush enemy armies even if they have an early UU. These units are VERY good in combination, and can really make a difference early.

Denmark: Without the UA the berserkers extra speed doesn't count for much, and since it can't pillage for free anymore, it really is just a weak knight with a pointless amphibious premotion. The ski infantry is only good in useless terrain, terrain you really shouldn't be fighting in anyway, and the CB ain't worth much if the AI hasn't lopped down their trees.

+America: Gotta upvote one of my favorite UU combinations. Minutemen are awesome and make for even more awesome pre-promoted Riflemen and eventually Mech Infantry. Mech Infantry with ignore terrain cost is scary. And the B-17 combined with the Brandenburg Gate makes for very scary Bombers which can be upgraded to Stealth Bombers.

-Iroquois: Want to take a moment to discuss one of the lesser mentioned civs. I like the Iroquois flavor but overall I feel they are a less effective Inca. The absence of the UA makes both the Mohawk and Longhouse less desirable. And I especially do not like how the longhouse lacks the +10% production from the regular Workshop. Even with a slight boost from forest tiles, it usually is not enough to make up for it.

+Rome: Legions and Ballistas work well together and they are able to conquer so much land. Building roads is such a humorous ability.

-Iroquois: Mohawk Warrior is mediocre but Longhouse really sucks. It lacks the 10% :c5production: but provides 1 :c5production: per forest instead. Forests are the least desirable tiles in the game.

Egypt: I feel bad for down voting these guys, as I now see the usefulness in the chariot archers: more chariot archers. I can sell off my horses to get money to buy more archers to pound early cities quick, and the no cost burial tombs allow me to feild MORE chariot archers, and their spped makes them good offense an defense units.

Iroquoi: without the forrest UA the mohawk is slow and cumbersome as any of the other swordsmen, and having no iron means these are meant to be spammed... Leading to a lot of roadblocks. The longhouse is meh and forest tiles DO kinda suck... Not a huge fan of these guys.

Just to play devil's advocate, couldn't you argue that any unique unit not requiring horses gives you the option of selling your horses (assuming you don't want to use chariots or horsemen in the first place). And also, if you simply don't have a game where you are building the temple and/or haven't yet reached the tech that unlocks temple then isn't that the same as allowing you to field more units? I don't know, your last point about speed is the only one I can get behind.
