Game won't progress?

So, first, my specs:

Now, the problem I'm having:

The game installed fine, it starts fine, I'm using the Steam version. I can get past the intro movie with no problem, I can start a game fine, but when i click "Begin Your Journey," the game starts, and the little text about the leader never goes away. The map never appears, it just looks ilke a blank screen.

I hit "escape" and the menu comes up. But when I hit "return to game" it doesn't go away, rather it stays on screen. The same, if I click on my city, the production screen won't go away. It looks like this:



Anyone have any suggestions?
