Major Bugs

1. Diplomacy
Bug: In diplomacy, you can get whatever you want.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open diplomacy.
2. Demand whatever you want (cities, techs, etc.).
3. When the AI proposes a counter offer, it is the same as you demanded.
4. Accept the offer to gain what you wanted.
Additional Info:
You can also trade resources to the AI even if they don't have the technological requirement to use it yet, and vice versa.

2. Memory Leak
Bug: When Alt + Tabbing, it will take a while to get back into the game even with sufficient amounts of RAM (even with 2GB, people still experience this problem).
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start a game.
2. Alt + Tab to another program.
3. Try to alt tab back in, and it will take minutes to fully come back (10 minutes, 20 minutes, and 60 minutes have all been reported).

3. Random Map Generation
Bug: The random map generator is not random; some maps generated by multiple people are the same.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Load Civ4.
2. Start a Custom Game with the default settings.
3. You will get the same map as some of the following pictures attached.
Additional Info:
This bug has not been able to be reproduced for some people.

4. Tutorial
Bug: There are several bugs including: if you save the game and reload later, you'll get a Conquest victory. If you have to work a tile that a forest has grown on and don't have Bronze Working, you can't continue. A typo includes spelling "then" instead of "than" for the line "Archer units are stronger then Warrior units."

5. Hotseat Trading
Spoiler 5. Hotseat Trading (fixed) :

Bug: You cannot trade techs to whomever is Player 1 (human or AI).
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Load Civ4.
2. Start a Hotseat game.
3. Try to trade a tech (even once you have Alphabet) to Player 1.
Additional Info:
Fixed with v1.09
6. Initial Build Suggestion
Bug: If you are alone on an island/continent, it will suggest to build a scout. If there are other AIs, it will suggest a warrior. You can easily tell if you are alone or not early on in the game without exploration.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Load Civ4.
2. Found your first city.

7. Open Borders
Spoiler 7. Open Borders (fixed) :
Bug: When an Open Borders agreement is cancelled, the AI's units do not get removed out of the territory, sometimes resulting in war if that is the AI's intentions.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Load Civ4.
2. Sign an Open Borders agreement with an AI, and wait for AI units to enter your territory.
Additional Info:
Fixed with v1.09
8. Trading at a Discount
Bug: When trading with a civ, you can get anything for 10 gold / 1 gold per turn.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start diplomacy with a civ.
2. Ask for a resource/technology.
3. Give all your gold as your offer.
4. Choose "What would make this deal work?"
5. If they accept, right click on your offer and change it to 1 gold per turn.
6. Click accept.
Additional Info:

9. Free Gold
Spoiler 9. Free Gold (fixed) :
Bug: When trading with a civ, you can get anything for 10 gold / 1 gold per turn.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start diplomacy with a civ.
2. Ask for 1 gpt.
3. Make your offer 1 gpt.
4. Choose "What would make this deal work?"
5. When they affirm the deal would work, right click on the AI's gpt and change it to whatever you want.
6. Click accept.
Additional Info:
Fixed with v1.09

10. Iron Works
Spoiler 10. Iron Works (fixed) :
Bug: The Iron Works is bugged and doesn't provide the +100% bonus to production.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Found a city and hook up coal and iron to your trade network.
2. Build Iron Works.
Additional Info:
Fixed with v1.09

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Have a city start an SS component.
2. Cancel the project and switch to another build.
3. Try to switch back to SS component.
Additional Info:

12. Captured Palaces
Bug: You can have multiple palaces, as captured palaces don't get destroyed when you take them.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start a game and found your city with a palace.
2. Capture an enemy capital and get a second palace.
3. As a result, maintenance is lower than it should be, and you get free culture.
Additional Info:

Minor Bugs

1. Wonder Movies
Bug: The wonder movies' music and audio stutters and skips.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start a game.
2. Build a wonder.
Additional Info:

2. ToolTip
Bug: The ToolTip feature says the Police State Civic has no war weariness when it really only decreases it by 50%.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start a game.
2. Look at ToolTip for Police State Civic and switch to it.

3. Mouse Rollovers
Bug: The pop-up related to mouse rollovers sometimes does not appear.
New Additional Info:
This bug occurs when "Right Click Menu" is selected on the options screen.

4. Combat Results
Bug: You can tell the results of combat before it is over.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. When you first engage the other unit, your experience bar will immediately go up (if you are destined to win).
2. The health bar gives away the winner; the dying unit will have an empty health bar, so you can tell who will die. The only exception is if a unit retreats..

6. Scouts and Woodsman II Promotion
Bug: Scouts do not get the movement bonus from the Woodsman II promotion in forests and jungles, unlike units such as warriors.
Steps to Reproduce:

7. Titled-Axis Map
Bug: People have reported Crashes to Desktop (CTDs) for numerous points in the game only when playing the Title-Axis Map. They include using Great People, Worker Actions, and Using Missionaries to Spread a Religion.
Steps to Reproduce:

8. Space Elevator
Bug: The Space Elevator is only buildable at places within 30 degrees of the equator, yet this isn't mentioned anywhere in the game unless you read the XML.

9. Science Advisor
Bug: Many times the F6 Science Advisor won't let you go to another advisor when you press another F# key.

10. Naval Movement into Enemy Territory
Bug: If you have a ship with units in it, and you move it into the borders of a civilization with whom you don't have an Open Borders agreement, it asks you declare X number of times, where X = # of units + 1 (ship). This makes it annoying if you have a large stack; rather, it should only ask you once for the whole group.

Graphics Bugs

1. Yield Display
Spoiler Yield Display (fixed) :
Bug: Only food appears for the yield display, instead of food, hammers, and gold.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start a game.
2. Turn on yield display.
Additional Info:
This bug seems to mostly be a problem with nVIDIA cards, though it has been reported with others.
Fixed with v1.09
2. Dark Terrain
Bug: The terrain appears dark until you zoom out, when you then cannot see the units.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start a game.
Additional Info:
People have reported this bug even with graphics cards that have T&L.

3. "Cheshire Cat Grin"
Bug: Leaderheads are only partially visible (eyes, lips).
Additional Info:

4. Terrain Splotches
Bug: Floodplain splotches appear in the FOW.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start a game and look for floodplains.
Additional Info:
People who have reported this have also reported the Yield Display bug.

5. Edge of Minimap
Bug: The map seam has caused various problems for some people.
Additional Info:
People who have reported this have also reported the Yield Display bug.
People have also reported workers walking on water, possibly due to the map seam.
Also related to the map seam is an issue of city's names being off to the left side.

6. Great Wonders
Bug: If you build many wonders in one city, then they will not all display on the city's tile: some of the old wonders will be displayed on the tile to the northwest.

7. Stealth Bombers Intercepting
Bug: This bug allows Stealth Bombers to appear to intercept planes, while they don't actually do so.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Find a city with stealth bombers and jet fighters.
2. Alt+Click the city and only planes should appear.
3. Hit the eye button so the intercept button comes up.
4. Hit the intercept button and your Stealth Bombers will appear to intercept.
Additional Info:
This bug also occurs with units like tanks and artillery. If you select the tanks and hit bombard, all units will appear to bombard, while only the artillery does so. It is providing animations for units that shouldn't be able to do that.

8. Research Bar with Great People
Bug: When using a Great Person to partially discover a tech, the research bar won't be updated unless you do something to trigger it to update like go into a city, go to a window, or if you don't do the aforementioned, the next turn.

9. Resource Display in Hotseat
Bug: In hotseat multiplayer, with the resource display on, the resources don't go away until after the next player enters their password. That means that while the other player types their password, they see all of the previous player's resources in the middle of the black background.

There are also miscellaneous graphics bugs like a two headed horse and a floating house.

Bug or Feature?

1. Hall of Fame
Bug: There is no Win/Loss column in the Hall of Fame, so you can't differentiate between a win or loss.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Win and lose a game.
2. Go to your Hall of Fame.

2. Diplomacy
Bug: After finishing talking with another civilization, the game doesn't go back to the Diplomacy screen - it goes to the main map screen.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open the Diplomacy screen.
2. Contact another civ.
3. Exit out, going back to the map, not the Diplomacy screen.

3. Civilopedia
Bug: The civilopedia lists "Wonders", "National Wonders", and "Buildings" all under a section called "Buildings". Should it have a Wonders/Nation Wonders section too?

4. Abandoning a City
Bug: There is no way to abandon a city.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Found a city.
2. Try to abandon it.

5. Power Plants
Bug: You can build a coal plant with Steam Power without researching Electricity, yet it has the same bonus as an Electricity producing Power Plant.

6. Gunships
Bug: There is a lot of confusion regarding some weird abilities gunships have / don't have.
-> They cannot fly over even a coastal square ... yet they are flying units.
-> Anoter thing indicating they are flying is they don't use railroads.
-> They can be loaded into a transport! (not flying now I guess)
-> They face the penalty when attacking across the river (yet if they were flying they wouldn't..)
-> They get a +100% bonus against armor units, yet not Mech Infantry.
There are some inconsistencies regarding the state of Gunships.

7. Custom Game
Bug: When on the Custom Game (Main Menu -> Single Player -> Custom Game) screen, you can only choose a leader; not a civilization.

8. Histograph Replay
Bug: The replay at the end of the game does not distinguish between razes and captures, nor does it say anything about great people's actions.

How to Upload Screenshots / Saves

Spoiler Click to See Instructions :

1. Go to the Upload Page

At the bottom of the forum page, you'll see the following bar:

(colors dependent on your forum style)

Click on the "Upload File" link and it'll bring up the upload page. Note the limit is 3 MB / file, and there are restricted file types. You can always zip files that aren't allowed on their own (Python files, etc.).

2. Upload Your File

Once you are at the upload page, hit "Browse" and search your computer for your file. Once you found it, hit "Open" to exit out of the Browse dialog and your file will appear in the box next to Browse. Then hit "Upload".

3. Finding Your File

When your file uploads, it will have a congratulation screen. Hit the link to go to the uploads10 folder, where current uploads are stored. This folder changes every few months when it gets big, so keep an eye out on this.

When you are at the uploads10 folder, it will list all the uploads, in the order of their upload date. Newest ones are first. Your file will be at the top, along with some stats about it. Right click it, and select "Copy Link Location" (I use Firefox - that is what it says for me. If you use Internet Explorer, it is "Copy Shortcut"). This will copy the file's URL.

4. Posting your File

This is the fun part. If your file is an image, you will use the following text:
[img]http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/yourfile.jpg[/img]

Save images as jpg - they save space yet are pretty decent. BMPs take up tons of space. Also, that is civfanatics.NET, not civfanatics.COM - the .NET is where files are stored, the .COM is where the forums and homepage is.

If your file is something else (a ZIP, a save file, etc.), use this code:
[url=http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/yourzipfile.zip]Displayed Text (Like "My Zip File")[/url]

You can have up to 10 images in your posts. If you have any questions, or feel I've forgotten something, feel free to ask here.

Have a bug? Either (a) post a link to a thread WITH REPRODUCEABLE STEPS or (b) post it here (WITH REPRODUCEABLE STEPS).

Tricky to explain, so I'll steal a screenshot from one of the SGs:

Where sach side of the minimap join there is a line where the tiles do not diverge.

STEPS: Start a game with a map the crosses the edge of the minimap

When you're tech-leader and the AI is behind and you research e.g. physics and get access to Uranium:

You can sell it to the AI no matter if they can use it in any way or not!
This is provoking a buy-out on the AI like in civ3. IMO, ressources should only be traded by the AI, when they at least have the tech to spot them also (even better, when they can make use of it)...

GingerAle, you need to add this to diplomacy bug, a major bug that is. You can trade resources that are not known to one side. This means as a human you could sell the AI resources they can't even use.

I have encountered a bug where the city borders are all messed up. I will try to post a picture when I get the game running and if I see it again.

Also I think if you go from a higher resolution to a lower one, the F6 science advisor (possibly more) tab is messed up - it doesn't change resolution.

I have a bug where the city name is really far away and a picture.

To get it you first start a new game. Second, found a city.

It doesn't really affect gameplay but it does look dumb and you have to move the mouse all the way over there to see the mini city screen.

In addition, I got another picture to show it wasn't just a one time occurance. I think this problem occurs when you found a city on the site where the maxX and the minX meet

If you have your computer set up with two monitors, Civ 4 will run on your primary monitor, but if you can move the mouse out onto the other monitor. This is mainly a problem when you are trying to scroll to the left/right (whichever direction the secondary monitor is). Normally when scroll a map in a game I just flick the mouse right to the edge - if I try that in Civ 4 in the direction of my second monitor it leaves the game area.

the help screens that pop up when you hover over techs, etc, disappear with no apparent cause, and may or may not return with the next turn.

this is annoying at best, and a real problem with e.g. diplomacy where you cannot judge the value of a tech offered without referring to the manual, etc. you get the picture.

Don't know if this is a "bug" but I can't turn on grids, I need those to see (no option in the options menu).

Steps: Try and turn on grids :D .

In lower right of screen is a button to turn them on... Using screenshot above second to right next to the end turn button..

My problem: Production Que for buildings not saved. (comes up as military units)

reproduce: Any city, select a few builings try to save que then reload que...

Very good Thread- you can add, that people with a radeon 7500 get yellow-white terrain when AGP is disabled and black terrain/Fog of war trouble when enabled
the points with the Fog of War/bread only concerns (as far as I know) the GF2, the whole GF 4xx series as well as the radeon 7500 (and some other radeons, but whose owners could get rid of this problem with Omega drivers and the art0.fpk trick)

Bug: Sometimes using mouse to roll-over a something does not show the relevant pop-up

Steps to reproduce:

1. Start Game
2. Discover a technology and rollover the options
3. When an AI civ offers resource or technology rollover options
4. Complete the building of something in your city and rollover the options

Additional info:

This bug only happens sometimes. It usually (always?) occurs for things that happen during the inter-turn, and when the actual turn starts you can go into your cities, science advisor, etc and the rollover popups work fine. It doesn't happen every turn.

I have a Freeze problem. I load up fine most times. However with out warning, error messages or anything else my machine freezes. Some times during start up just as it says Done, or if I'm trying to customize it may freeze up. Usually sometime after start of medieval period. FREEZE. There is nothing reproducable that I can find.
Using a Gateway 710S with 1 gig RAM, 3.2 P4 and 17 in monitor with RAGE 9600 . NO problems starting or loading until the Done or later. Hope someone can help, it's frusterating.

I am having a major prob. While playing my comp just shuts down. It usually happens when a movie starts to play. To me that sounds like a memory problem. But I have a gig of memory and a p4 3.2 gig processor. Video card is not a great one mabey that is my problem. What do ya'll think

XR

Major diplomacy bug:

Once you discover Industrialism any Ivory you were gaining are obsoleted. However in a recent game the Romans repeatedly tried to trade me Ivory for another resource after it was obsoleted for me. This is very bad as I took a negative dip-hit for turning down his offers - several times.

I assume he might do the same with Fur and Ivory, but have not been able to test that. This is probably related to trading resources to the computer when he hasn't discovered the tech for it yet. But it has to do with checking for whether it's obsolete instead of not discovered.

I have also noticed this behavior occurs randomly in the Civilipedia.
