Why Korea can be a strong medieval military power

Everyone knows Korea is a big science power, but in my latest game I found an interesting thing(I guess you could call it a bug). As Korea you can build allot of catapults, then upgrade them to a hwach'a and they keep the 200% bonus to attacking cities. So you basically get a 26 ranged power trebuchet:D. I conquered all 3 civs on my continent with this strategy. Do other people know about this?
 
I think when you upgrade a unit to a more advanced one it keeps all of the promotions. So I don't think it's a bug.

No, the +200% combat ability against cities shouldn't be present on the H'wacha; sounds like someone forgot to make sure it was removed when a catapult was upgraded.
 
The fact that Korea can get at least two science boosts on the way to UU makes their window of usefulness that much longer and they are deadly vs ground troops.
