31 March 2007. THIS VERSION IS NOW OBSOLETE See this thread for the later version.

UPDATE 27 January 2007.

Now that Warlords for Mac is compatible with Windows version 2.08, we can invite Mac players to join the Warlords Game of the Month (WOTM) competitions. The current game is WOTM 05, and as closing date is 15th February, I've built a set of starting saves to enable you to play the game with this version of the Mac HoF Mod. You can read about the game, download the files, and join in the fun here

Enjoy :)

[/UPDATE]

I have produced a version of the HoF Mod that is compatible with Warlords for Mac, version 2.00. It has the same features as the version 1.61 HoF Mod, and should behave the same, with a few extra events supported for extra Warlords features.

Please Note This version of the mod will not make it possible for you to play in the Hall of Fame (HoF) OR in the Warlords of the Month (WOTM) competitions.

Mod Feature Set
This mod provides a suite of mods, in the same way as the Windows HoF Mod, with Options screens to allow you to enable, disable and configure them. It includes most of the usability features of the Windows HoF Mod, omitting those on Options Screen HOF3 which are HoF-specific and/or dependent on the Windows DLL.

Included:
Autolog
CIV4lerts
Specialist Stacker
Exotic Foreign Adviser
Modified Special Domestic Adviser
Clock Turn Text
Reminders - Checkbox moved to HOF1 Options tab
Flashing End-of-Turn Text - Checkbox moved to HOF1 Options tab

Excluded:
HoF MapFinder (irrelevant for GOTM)
HOF Settings options and warnings (irrrelevant for GOTM)
Main screen options (need the DLL)

I've removed the HOF3 Options tab, as it only had two checkboxes left on it, and they looked a bit lonely. I've moved those to the bottom of the HOF1 tab.

Installation
I have not built this into an installer, as I have not found a bullet-proof way to get the Apple installer to find your copy of Warlords, given that it gets installed in your Civ4 folder, and that might be anywhere on your system, and may not be where you first installed it.

So the mod is a simple ZIP file. Expand it (or let Safari expand it) to produce a folder called HOF-Mac-2.00.002, and put this folder in the /Civilization IV/Warlords/Mods/ folder. This Mods folder is in the same Warlords directory as your Civilization IV Warlords application.

Loading
You have two options to load the mod:

1. Launch Warlords and click Back to get to the first screen, click Advanced, click Load A Mod, select 'HOF-Mac-2.00.002'
Warlords will tell you it has to restart to load the mod. Let it do so and then start a game in the usual way.

2. Set it as your default mod by editing your ~/Documents/Civilization IV Warlords/CivilizationIV.ini file in TextEdit.
Find the comment line:
; Specify a Mod folder (Mods\Mesopotamia), '0' for none

Change the line below it from:
Mod=0

to:
Mod=HOF-Mac-2.00.002

Save the edited file. Warlords will then load the mod at startup, avoiding the need for the double start.

Configuration
When the mod is loaded, you can configure it. Click Advanced at the first menu, and Options to open the Options screen before you start a game. Or select Options in the in-game menu to change its configuration. It initially has all the enhancements disabled. Use the checkboxes on the HOF1 and HOF2 tabs to try out the extra goodies. Please check out the details and the links in the Credits section on this HoF site page for details of what the various mods do.

Please let me know if you have any issues with this mod. It will form the basis for a WOTM version if and when we get Warlords version 2.08 for Mac.

I have installed it with no problem. It seems to work fine. I have it both as a mod and loaded in my CustomAssets folder so it works on all of the games. I sure have been missing this.

When I have the CivilizationIV.ini file load the mod for me when I come into the game it skips by the first screen and goes straight to the single player screen. I guess that it is convenient, but I always go, "did I hit something to get here?".

Glad you like it. Sorry for the delay in getting it to you.

I think Warlords always goes straight to the second screen on startup. I found it strange, too.

Oddly, none of my interface elements would show up when I tried to play a game with this mod loaded automatically. The mod loaded successfully, I started a new game, and I couldn't access any of the information screens (through the function keys) or even see any on-screen interface information. I tried un-hiding the interface, to no avail. I'll try again tonight to see if the problem is on my end somewhere.

Make sure that you put it in with where your Civilization application folder is. Civilization IV\Warlords\Mods. If you put it in the Warlords stuff in your home folder it will show up as a mod, but it won't work because the path to where things are is hardwired to be in the application folder.

I saw the same thing when I tried to run it the way I like, which is to take the Assets folder from the HOF mod, rename it CustomAssets and replace the CustomAssets folder in HomeFolder\Documents\Civilization IV Warlords. When I did that I didn't see any interface either. But when I put the HOF folder in the application mod folder, then the stuff in the CustomAssets folder was able to point to it and then it worked.

How do you set it to load automatically? I spent some time searching the threads to find a way to do this on the Mac, came up with nothing that worked, and gave up. Now I'm inspired to try again...

Thanks,

From a post upthread:

2. Set it as your default mod by editing your ~/Documents/Civilization IV Warlords/CivilizationIV.ini file in TextEdit.
Find the comment line:

Change the line below it from:

to:
Mod=HOF-Mac-2.00.002

Bingo! I had placed it in the documents folder instead of the app folder. I'll make the necessary changes and try again.
