Not sure if this exists elsewhere but I thought I'd start one.

1) Burn all your great people for golden ages to speed production
2) Sell useless buildings and even units for gold to buy spaceship factories, nuclear plants, etc. (also saves on maintenance for even more gold). Once you have all the tech you need science buildings are included in this.
3) Prioritize buying production buildings in the bottleneck city (ie. the city that will be the last to finish it's part)
4) (multiplayer only) Don't add parts to the spaceship until they're all complete, otherwise your opponents will know your progress.
5) You may want to build extra railroads so that parts can more quickly get to the capital. Remember to factor in transit time when deciding which city will build which part.
6) Spaceship factories can be built while you're waiting for the Apollo Project.
7) You need a factory to build a spaceship factory. If coal is limited, you could potentially build/buy a factory, then a spaceship factory, then sell the factory so that you can build one elsewhere.
8) Use engineers and merchants rather than scientists and artists
9) Build gold in cities that aren't building parts. Max out their merchants.
10) Sell resources to AI players for more gold. If you have enough spare happiness this includes luxuries. Taking a population growth hit at this stage is not important.

For #4 also keep all spaceship parts 2 tiles away from your city, because if the enemy has a spy in your cap, he can see them anyways.

For #7 you can trade for coal from AI or get it from a city state. If you lose the coal after your factories are built, you'll be in negative coal, but that only affects coal using units; the factories themselves will be completely fine.

For #8 you should still go for scientists to get through the end of the tree faster. You only really -need- one engineer for Hubble (plus a second one if you went Order, but the capstone that you need it for will provide a free engy for you). Plant scientists until you're about to reach Plastics or so, then save the rest of what you spawn for the last techs. Remember, most of the space race is getting to the parts, more so than just building 'em.

You want to go either Order or Freedom and get the quickbuild or quickbuy parts capstone, though you only need to use it on your last part.

11) Spaceship parts can travel through airport.
12) Avoid research agreements below Deity.
13) Go for scholasticism on Immortal and Deity.
14) Delay Hubble, if you can, until a GS is born. Each GP born delay all GP birth.Same things for GS bought with faith. Get out you writer's or artist's guild specialist if a GW or GA will born before a GS. Specially in the end of the game when you have all social policies and tenets you need.
15) Avoid building musicians' guild.
16) Sometimes, you don't need fertilizer before plastics.
17) You can't build Apollo with a GE.
18) Stock your GS nearly before scientific theory. Burn them 8 turns after labs are up.
19) Commerce to Mercantilism + Big Ben it's a spaceship parts for 1 650 gold.
20) If you can't buy a spaceship parts, it's because you have another parts, GP, worker, faith person in you city. Or you don't have enough alu. Or you have bought all spaceship parts. :)

no. 2 is rather useless. You don't need other buildings when you reach the last tech, but at that time you only need 1 factory, and you usually have it in the cap from hubble ...

Maybe you can get rid of shrine/temple at some point, but when I play for SV, I rarely build em anyway, except the shrine that gets me the pantheon ... And selling banks, food, production or science buildings makes no sense to me tbh ...

Pf, I did not realize this was a necro tread. Why would someone answer to a 4 year old post I wonder ...

This thread is no mistake, it's a sign... They... ARE COMING! Quick, play your Civ while you still can!

I started to read the list, and after the 1st one, I realized that he was talking vanilla, and looked at the date. I almost got sucked in too.

I almost got sucked in as well. The OP never even had a reply to his post back then. I guess folks didn't agree with him then, or now.

Lol, that's funny that it took so long to realize it was a necro.

One problem I have is not winning by culture or diplo before science, but I think I will manage that in my current game because everyone hates me for overexpanding, and I'm using the culture boost from writers, and saving artists for golden ages instead.

It (still) looked like such good info that I didn't notice the necro until I hit "Page Down".

So here's a question to hopefully bring some more life back in: can you have two victory types in a game? I've won the domination victory, but I can't put more than one SS part in my capital.

There is only 1 victory per game. Once one has been achieved, it is over. You can play on with the "one more turn" option, but there is no victory to achieve at that point, just fun.

If you have spaceship parts, you have to take them to your capital and assemble it. Once it disappears, you can send another to the capital and do the same.

I have yet to play a game where the space race was close enough for any of this to matter. But I would love to play my first.

With GnK you can get a domination victory after winning or losing one of the other victory types. The victory screen, another “one more turn” dialog, any relevant Steam badges, etc. I have fun with the late games wars, usually after losing a SV or CV, so this bug has been a nice consolation.

So only domination? I've never tried for that after winning, or at least, I never finished it, as I always get bored before I finish it, but I have attempted other victory types to test it, and they wouldn't trigger another win.
