That would be my preference as well. Imho we've got enough knights already, after the current knights finish, we're better of getting some LB's/CB's or muskets if we've got GP done by that time.
Also: we can get more science if we want, but that would slow growth (hire scientists mostly), which I'm not sure we should do, as it means that it'd take longer to get an army out as we'd have to build most of it by hand (it is a fine line between getting the techs faster and having enough pop to whip into an army).

Cannons sound good, but it's a pity nearly everybody has GP and chem already. It might be risky, but maybe we could tech astro that everybody still lacks and hope to do some massive trading? In any case, maybe now that we have good infra in place (goodjob on Oxford!) we should push tech a bit by mass building wealth/research and growing until we reach at least tech parity.

Astro's pretty risky given that it takes 10t@100% with a 106g deficit (meaning we'd just make it with 1171 stored) with running wealth in all but HE city (note that the save I posted is NOT optimized. When I loaded to check, I noticed that I saved before the second MM run, so the specialists are not what I had in mind).
Still, I think I like it ;) It would be a good bargaining chip, and if an AI researches it early we can switch without to big a loss, if an AI researches when we're nearly done, there still should be trading value in it. Even if we can only get GP and Chem out of it, it is still a net win.

So I had a look at the save and, to be honest, am a little overwhelmed! Are we going to want to settle the little landmass by Thracian? If so, I propose a little map:

The Red dots are, in my opinion, minor "filler" cities.

I assume since we are behind in tech, war in the near future is off the table? If that is the case, are we just going to hire a bunch of scientists and try and catch up researching wealth and shooting for Astro? I think a war with the Celts might also not be beyond the realm of possibility...

[EDIT] Maybe push the Red sheep 1N [\EDIT]

we should check if the thracian city is on our land mass or not (colonial maintenance, better trade routes).

our best shot is some teching going on for the time being.
I am a little bit out of touch, so dunno if getting Astro as trade chip is good or not.

from looking at the big ma, it's not on our landmass.

@woopdeedo
the dotmap looks ok to me, I'm thinking the same now on research to get back to tech parity

if it's not our landmass we should be careful with number of cities and stop colonizing there at 3.
There are marked 5 spots (with Thracian and the fish+deer+corn city) so we have to drop 2.

Aside from settled spots the strongest one is corn+fish. The rest we will have to not settle for the time being.
Especially if we need quick teching.

Ok so the question is this: Do we set our cities to build wealth or research? Which is more efficient, the slider @100% while building wealth or the slider lower but building research?

Alright then. So I guess all I need to do is build a settler where appropriate, set the rest to wealth, settle Fish-Stone-Corn city and get Astro in. Should be easy ;)

I think you should keep the HE city at producing units (LB's, CB's or muskets when GP is in) because of the multipliers. It'd be wasteful to build wealth there.

i think for short amount of time it is beneficial to build wealth in HE, i would switch after we get GP and pump out muskets there.

Alright. Well I shall play today. Continue with Astro, finish current builds (whipping where necessary) and switch to wealth. Our HE city will continue building units and our existing units will be moved to a stack bordering on Celtia as this is the clear target for next attack, imo. Everyone ok with that? If so, expect a report in a few hours (8 or so).

IBT: Set tech to Astro @100%. Whip builds in Sicca, Utica, Poverty Point, Chahokia and Kerkouane.

T1: Move some workers and the troops to Kerkouane, on the Celtic border. Boudica of Spain settles Braga[pissed]:

T3: Mound city finishes a xbow > Pike.

T4: Thracian comes out of revolt.

T7: Asoka of Rome makes a request:

Not sure what to do, I check the relations. He is WE of Celtia and Portugal. Nearby neighbours. He is far, far away. I decline.

I also 3pop whip the starving Thracian's Courthouse. Carthage is building a Settler for our colony. Thapsus' library also gets whipped.

T8: I hit enter and we get this tidbit of info:

Mound city finishes Mace > Mace. We get a Quest:

T10: I hit enter and Washinton of Russia offers Cow for Iron. No thanks. Hit enter and:

The following trades are on the table:

The rest of of the offers pretty mediocre or non-existent.

Also, at this time, I present the save. i haven't really finished the turn but I think this is time to hand back and discuss...

getting nat and economics for that amount of money I find attractive... both things should be good for our strategy.

who's up?
