The Forgotten: The Other Civilizations (BNW)

I've had the New Guineans suggested to me a couple of times, so I'd be more than happy to help out. Ditto for Fiji. Happy to make icons or whatever is needed.

The Papuans would need someone who can make Improvements (does anyone other than Leugi do that...?), because the khaim is too cool to pass up as a Jungle / Forest Improvement.

Nan Madol

I've made this civ 3 years ago but I've lost all my work. The city list was based on the buildt islets names: Nan Madol, Lelu, Dapahu, Kelepwei,Peinkitel,...
http://www.pohnpei-adventure.com/nan-madol/

I've had several ideas, Nahnmwarkis warriors, mangrova feature, Saudeleur Dynasty, coral...:

I was thinking that "the lost continent of Mu " could have a reference as a UA name, because it's a kind of atlantis myth for the pacific era and its sounds cool :)

It's not the only one. "Lost Lemuria" is also a pretty evocative name as far as fictitious continents go. =]

Man with a Micronesia and Melanesia getting thrown around here along with the upcoming Polynesia split, the Pacific is going to be a lot more populated.

But yeah I must say, tiny ancient ill-recorded civilizations of the lesser-known little Pacific island chains is a lot more fitting to the "Forgotten" moniker than 'this would actually be a viable 3rd expansion Firaxis civ' Lithuania. :p

Speaking of nearly-forgotten polities... how about these guys?

Donduk Kuular DoM said:
Greetings, Comrade Kuular, appointed to lead your people by the foreign power you turned against when they curtailed Tuvan freedom. Your origins were humble - a lamaist monk from the rich Buddhist tradition of your people - but this worked in your favour when Communism swept through the East like a wildfire, and you became the head of the fledgling nation of Tannu Tuva. Your faith continued to guide you, and though it rankled your nominal masters in Russia, you sought friendship with other nations through that shared faith, particularly Mongolia. When it became clear that the teachings of the Buddha remained central to your leadership, Stalin had you murdered, and the Tuvan people were imprisoned under foreign rule once more.

But now, Comrade, the people have spoken! They have suffered rule under Russians, under Chinese, and under Mongols. They demand to forge their own destiny, to walk their own path towards enlightenment and splendour. Can you fulfill the promise you made when first you led them? Can you build a Civilization that will stand the test of time?

Hopefully that's of interest to... someone. It's a pretty situational Civ, I'll grant you, but since it's based on Defensive Pacts (something barely anyone uses) I think it makes for an interesting concept. =]

EDIT: Changed the tech requirement for the UA to Dynamite after some thinking spurred by TheLohoped. Thanks for that, by the way. =]

Yeah, buuuuuuuut...

The UA name comes from the Ger Kharuul, which I think translates as "Tent Pickets" or something. It was a doctrine imposed by Qin-dynasty China on Tannu Uriankhai, as it was then known, that set up a load of tent fortifications along the border with Mongolia for some damn reason. No Chinese merchants were allowed past those pickets into Tannu Uriankhai, which was basically left to its own devices until the Russians showed up to cart off all the mineral wealth and build churches in the middle of nowhere. That's what the White Water Church is, BTW: one of the weirder Orthodox Old Churches, the Seekers of White Water, set up churches all over Tannu Tuva in a bid to get away from everyone else. Some gubbins about being closer to God through isolation and being close to nature, Iunno, I've not been able to find out that much about them.

Yeah, on reflection, maybe it'd be better if they had to wait until Dynamite instead. I'll edit it accordingly. =]

That's mostly being covered by RawSasquatch and DJSHenninger in their respective threads. Check 'em out! =]

I have. Not much recently.

Which ones are you interested in? I might see if bane_ and I could so something with them.

I was thinking of the Kuban's People Republic. The country didn't even last 2 years but it fairly important. The founding of the country split the Anti-Bolshevik movement and was a major factor in the Bolshevik victory during the Russian civil war.
Besides that I don't have anything specific except European states (Like nonunified Germany and Italy but those are already made or in the works it seems).

I could look into it. Send me a PM if you want to discuss it some more. I've already got a Free Territories civ planned, so that would definitely fit right in.

I see a lot of people talking about different Pacific civs. Recently I've been working on making a Tongan civ based on the Tui Tonga Empire - very interesting to read about but not very well documented. Seems like it would fit in well here. Let me know if you're interested in it Hiram (or anyone), since I haven't been able to finish coding it myself. It would be great if it could be completed.

Here's the civ and some of the artwork I've completed (icons are in spoilers):

Tu'itatui - The Tongan Empire
Spoiler :

UA: Merchants of the Pacific
Coastal cities recieve +1 :c5food: Food, +1 :c5culture: Culture, +2 :c5gold: Gold and +1 :c5happy: Happiness. The first two Harbours built provide an additional :trade: Trade Route. +3% :tourism: Tourism output per city-state ally.

UU: Navigator
Spoiler :

Replaces Scout
6 :c5strength: Strength
+1 :c5moves: Movement while embarked
+15 :c5influence: Influence when discovering a city state. Doubled if first to discover.
Survivalism I
May cross oceans
115% Production Cost
Note: Feels slightly over-complicated.

UB: Langi
Spoiler :

Replaces Temple
+2 :c5faith: Faith
+1 :c5culture: Culture
+1 :c5food: Food
No Maintenance.
90% Production Cost

This is the map. There are no maps of their lands available so it's likely not to be 100% historically accurate.

Pooky's Polynesia split features a very nice Tonga, old spot. That said, this is some lovely art and a well thought-out Civ, though it could lose the first section of the UA; getting an extra trade route from Harbours is really bloody good as-is. That said, maybe the Langi could generate influence if a trade route is sent to a City-State from the city in which it's built? Something like that, anyway...

Oh, so it does, and it looks incredibly well done. I could only find the post with the icon atlas, any chance you could point me to where I can read more about it?

I probably agree on the UA, it does feel a little powerful. I wanted to use it to incorporate a plain incentive to playing wide. Maybe it could be reduced to +2 :c5gold:. I pondered on the idea of giving city-state/trade related bonuses to the Langi, but it didn't particularly make sense.
