To modify a unit via cut&paste you have to change every frame of every animation in every direction, keeping everything consistent and looking good; it is much more difficult and far more time-consuming than you'd think until you actually try it. After colorizing the junk, a process similar to but far less complex than modifying a unit via cut&paste, I've gained a newfound respect for those who can create convincing units that way.
