NESLife attempt #3

Era 1: The Fangsterous Era
This era is named after the hard spikes of the Fangsters, which pile up on the sea floor and become the first fossils to survive in any numbers.

The evolution race has begun. Many new species appear, though some do not last long.

Dibbler mutated into slime-eating and sponge-eating varieties. ‘Drooler’ did slightly better than ‘Dibblenip’ because there were more sponges to eat.

The original Dibbler still survived because it was a dedicated scavenger, and was simpler and lower-maintenance.

Cryotron had the cold water all to itself. Though it is harder to photosynthesise with less sunlight and warmth in these areas.

Driftwood wanted to evolve a protective woody body, but had to make do with a soft blobby one. It still managed to float. However it lacked the minerals found on the sea floor. It couldn’t photosynthesise very well and eventually died out.

The complex stomach of the Sucky proved to be an advantage, allowing it to eat various different things. However, the sucky couldn’t move at all (not even a drifting ability) so it was a static ambush predator. But the suction mouth was good for this.

Slimeotron Dry began to colonise rock-pools along the shorelines of various parts of the world, it had this habitat all to itself.

The Licky was a promising evolution. But like the Sucky it couldn’t move. Its lack of a trapping method and its complex feeding mechanism meant it lost out to Sucky, and eventually went extinct.

The Huhuwanapi was the first to develop an exoskeleton. This provided protection, but it blocked sunlight – not good for a photosynthesising lifeform. The Huhuwanapi went extinct as it was out-competed by the simple and fast-breeding Slimeotron MkII (which also made the original Slimeotron extinct).

As for the Fangsters, they wanted to be predators, but they still lacked the ability to eat anything except plankton. But the fangs did prove useful to discourage attacks by Suckys.

The simpler Blobsters had no defence, but they could grow quicker, and they still outnumbered the Fangsters by the end of this era.

Random NPC evolution:
Some Blobsters evolved into ‘Wormy’. A simple wriggly appendage allows faster movement in semi-random directions. This can help get to plankton blooms, or to escape being eaten by Suckys.

Here. Anything not listed here is extinct.

@MjM, I didn’t add your creature because it seemed a new one, but it had three ‘genes’. You only get two for a totally new creature. You only get to add one for an ‘evolution’. Hope this makes sense.

Name: Snakey
Evolved from: Wormy
Gene added (max 1): Finsx1
Gene removed (optional, max 1): Driftingx1
Description (optional): Evolved from Wormy, they have extra fins on the body to help direct their movement. This means that they no longer drift, but have begun to truly swim.

Slimeotron Drier: TerrisH
Genes (3): Photosynthesis x2, Water Retention x1
New Gene: Water Retention X1
Description: Photosynthesising green goo with the ability to grow on land. (with is now improved ablity to retain water, it now can grow on land proper, though it still needs a reaglur supply of water. it can still grow in the tide pools)

Sucker: Swissempire
Genes (2): Sucker Mouth x1, Complex Stomach x1, Flagella x1
Description: It sucks in the occasional Slimatron or Blobster but it thrives on the Sponges, its stomach specially adapted to extract all their nutrients. As it evolved more, the Sucky became the Sucker and developed Flagella that allowed it to move slowly through the water, but also allowed it to anchor itself in one place if it found good hunting grounds.

Spongita Garganteuna
Genes (2): Photosynthesis (x1), Large Size (x1)
Description: The Spongita Gargenteua is a mutated string of Spongita that has more than tripled in size. This makes them extremely menancing to any predators, and helps them survive.
_______________

It also makes them yummy large meals for the Sucker:p

@MjM- Many predators are smaller than their prey.

Name: Jawster
Evolved from: (if any) Fangster
Gene added (max 1): Flesh-Eating (is this okay?)
Gene removed (optional, max 1):
Description (optional): As competition grew between Fangsters, some were forced to move into new niches. While the majority of the population remained as sponge-eaters, some began to hunt more active prey. As generation after generation added up, the specializations became more and more pronounced, until the Jawsters were a clearly different species from their cousins.

The Jawster is a further advancement of the Fangster. Its calcium carbonate teeth are set up in a more practical arrangement, for capturing, killing, and holding mobile prey.

Yaaaaaaaaaay! Daft, you know you're the most popular person here, right :)?

Name: Cazone
Genes (max 2): Muscle Movement, Venom Stinger X1
Description (optional): Cazones are long, slim worm-like creatures inhbating the warm seas. The Cazone, resembling a Wormy at a decent distance, variates from said creature due to length and its adaptations. Roughly twice the size of a Wormy, a Cazone moves through the waters by contracting and relaxings it muscles (or however an eel moves). In addition, the Cazone possesses a hollow point located on its head. When a Cazone can find the minerals, a paralazing venom is produced. After this, the Cazone simply jabs prey with the venom, waits for it to stop moving, and then swallows it whole. The Cazone typically feasts on blobs, splimes, through it prefers objects that don't move. The ancestor of the Cazone is not yet known.

If Suckers aren't too afraid to try and eat something 3x bigger than them. :p

3 times the size:eek:

Thats like Breakfast, Lunch AND Dinner:goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob:

Evolution Template:
Name: Hiberotron
Evolved from: Cryotron
Gene added (max 1): Hibernation
Description (optional): The cold waters are rich in minerals, but the access to sunlight is highly irregular throughout the year. By learning to slow their metabolism to a minimum through the cold, dark periods, Hiberotrons can save energy for the periods when light is abundant (even more so than in the tropicals, midnight sun and all that). These periods are when they grow and reproduce.

EDIT: And it's Niklas, not Nylas. :p

I hope it's not too late to join

Name: Nitros Begineerous
Evolved from: Plankton
Genes (max 2): 1x Counter Current Exchanger, 1x Flagella
Description (optional): The Nitros is an evolutionary marvel in that it uses the minerals in the water currents to provide nutrients. The Flagella is used for limited mobility so that it can face it's gills (for lack of a better word) toward the warm current.

Name: Detatched Sponge
Genes (max 2): Mass reproduction, Hibernation.
Description (optional): Spongelike.

Orders SENT!

:ninja:

To Sucker
From Dibblenip

We propose a 20 year NAP, and wish to open trade ;)

Evolution!
Name: Blower
Evolved from: Sucky
Gene added: 1x Hydro Jet*
Description (optional): Being immobile was a major handicap for the Sucky, to solve this problem some Sucky began to use their sucking mouth to suck in water and the expel it with great force, enabling them some limited and random movement, these Sucky are now known as Blowers.

Instant death for the win!

The Other Sucky
Evolved From: Sucky
Genes (2): Sucker Mouth x1, Complex Stomach x1
New Gene: Chloroplast Extractor x1
Description: As a joke, some Licky managed to breed with Sucky before dying creating the biologically impossible The Other Sucky. All it did was gain the ability to extract chlorophyl.

Name: Slimeotron Mk III
Evolved from: Slimeotron Mk II
Gene added (max 1 + bonus): Semi-Permeable Membrane x 1, Spore Formation x 1
Description (optional): The Slimeotron Mk III has developed a semi-permeable membrane which allows it to retain water and nutrients even on land. It has also begun to reproduce by forming spores, which spread greatly and remain inactive until it finds favorable conditions for growth.

Name: Yellow Wormy
Evolved from: Wormy
Genes (3): Drifting x1, Plankton Eating x1, Swimming x1
Genes Added: Photosynthesis
Decription: A simple wriggly appendage allows faster movement in semi-random directions. Since this movement is semi-random it was not always possible to get to the Plankton thus some of the Wormy's evolved into the Yellow Wormy (absorbing the sunlight seemed to lighten its color from the darker yellow it was to a lighter more bright yellow)

* Hope this is correct
