Era 1: The Fangsterous Era
This era is named after the hard spikes of the Fangsters, which pile up on the sea floor and become the first fossils to survive in any numbers.
The evolution race has begun. Many new species appear, though some do not last long.
Dibbler mutated into slime-eating and sponge-eating varieties. ‘Drooler’ did slightly better than ‘Dibblenip’ because there were more sponges to eat.
The original Dibbler still survived because it was a dedicated scavenger, and was simpler and lower-maintenance.
Cryotron had the cold water all to itself. Though it is harder to photosynthesise with less sunlight and warmth in these areas.
Driftwood wanted to evolve a protective woody body, but had to make do with a soft blobby one. It still managed to float. However it lacked the minerals found on the sea floor. It couldn’t photosynthesise very well and eventually died out.
The complex stomach of the Sucky proved to be an advantage, allowing it to eat various different things. However, the sucky couldn’t move at all (not even a drifting ability) so it was a static ambush predator. But the suction mouth was good for this.
Slimeotron Dry began to colonise rock-pools along the shorelines of various parts of the world, it had this habitat all to itself.
The Licky was a promising evolution. But like the Sucky it couldn’t move. Its lack of a trapping method and its complex feeding mechanism meant it lost out to Sucky, and eventually went extinct.
The Huhuwanapi was the first to develop an exoskeleton. This provided protection, but it blocked sunlight – not good for a photosynthesising lifeform. The Huhuwanapi went extinct as it was out-competed by the simple and fast-breeding Slimeotron MkII (which also made the original Slimeotron extinct).
As for the Fangsters, they wanted to be predators, but they still lacked the ability to eat anything except plankton. But the fangs did prove useful to discourage attacks by Suckys.
The simpler Blobsters had no defence, but they could grow quicker, and they still outnumbered the Fangsters by the end of this era.
Random NPC evolution:
Some Blobsters evolved into ‘Wormy’. A simple wriggly appendage allows faster movement in semi-random directions. This can help get to plankton blooms, or to escape being eaten by Suckys.
Warm Sea:
Cold Sea:
Land:
Bonuses:
Slimeotron MkII is most successful overall. jalapeno_dude has +1 gene allowed for next evolution.
Stats:
Here. Anything not listed here is extinct.
@MjM, I didn’t add your creature because it seemed a new one, but it had three ‘genes’. You only get two for a totally new creature. You only get to add one for an ‘evolution’. Hope this makes sense.
