An Island Race

This is a got it, but no real plan until tomorrow night.

Looks good cripp :salute:

Without looking at the save:

Adopt Liberty and then whatever gives the 25% worker improvement bonus?
mining > AH > trapping?
worker > tri (thinking about buying if we have enough gold :smoke: too soon?) > settler?

To take a screenie, I just hit "print screen"? Should be interesting since that requires I hold some other key on my laptop. :crazyeye:

Inane musings:
need to get to philo and have enough gold when we get there to do a research agreement with someone.
Please point me to a thread where the pro and cons of a pact of secrecy vs. a pact of cooperation are detailed.
The orange colored double stuffed oreos are not as good as the originals.
Once the city 1S of the dye is built, will sending the warrior/brute/whatever to the south prevent the spawning of barb camps? What's the radius for that?
Dammit, we're gonna need a second trireme to defend our sea resources or we're gonna see pillaging barbs.
Actual cogent thoughts tomorrow. ( :rotfl: is probably an appropriate response to this statement).

I need to look for the settings in the .ini files to change the ScreenShots from .tga to .jpg. Those tga files are huge! I have to convert mine manually then u/l it.

Still don't know ow the research agreements play out, as pro/con of secrecy vs cooperation. Lots of new stuff here to learn.
Actually having a warrior by the coast will fogbust the ocean from barbs too, but a 2nd exploring trieme would be good. 1 gos west, other goes east.

I had a look in the ini settings but unlike civ4 I can't find the option to change the screenshot setting. They really dropped the ball there.

Not keen on Liberty to be honest. Would rather go for Trad now or save the policy till we hit medivieal for the Commerce tree.

Tech mining > AH > ?

Yeah, unfortunately tga is the only way to get screenshots. I crop as necessary with Gimp and re-save them as jpeg.

We might as well spend some cash on the tremerie if we have it available.

If there are no objections, I'll play in 24 hours or so, following this plan:

AH > bronze > trapping (for the camps)

worker > tri > tri

social policy - let it ride til later

When the worker finishes, improve the cotton, mine the hills, start some camps if time

That should do it for my 20. Definite for 3 cities on this island. Didn't pick up that we already had 2 warriors and are essentially immune to land barbs at this time.

Without further delay...

T40: mining > AH
T41: skip adoption of policy
T42: damn barbs

T46: worker > tri; start trapping
T47: Stonehenge BIFAL
T54: Unmet enters Classical Era
T55: trapping > bronze
T56: tri > tri
T57: Uh oh! I, of course, decide to attack.

T58: Meet the neighbors and make a deal. Start building a camp

T59: More whack a barb

T60: More whack a barb ahead; find another barb galley

I think I found Iceland or Prince Edward Island

Oh, hello. How come both SGs I'm in need me at the same time?

I'll see the save now and make up a plan soon.

Well, short ideas.

London is stagnating, so I'll switch it to food focus - we don't need second trireme so soon. BO - may be Library (we need some tech rush), or Armory. Tech - when BW finishes I'll go for Optics and start a LH. Nothing fancy, I guess.

If agreed, I'll play in 24h or so.

Some nice easy XP for our tri there.

A lib would be good so we can run a sci spec or two.

Going to look at the save and then comment more.

OK after a quick look I reckon that we want to get a settler out before another tri. Settle the dyes site IMO.

Tech Bronze > Optics > Philio/Compass

If we get a GSci we can sling Civil Service (Philo) or Compass.

Farm up the riverside grassland IMO.

re the screenies and keeping in mind I'm :old:. I reverted to the CIV3 method. crtl alt printscreen, go to paint and save as jpeg. you need to have a couple of tags open but it works.

I'd rather go philo before optics since I'm pretty sure our warriors aren't going on any profitable piracy raids anytime soon. From what I can figure, research agreements benefit us more than sending warriors off to d-day.

we need to get at least a second city up if we are going to consider any wonders. I'd prefer we fill out our island. we can MM the happy gas and growth. I didn't say it, and I should have, but letting London stagnate was in anticipation of a settler. Let the tri finish, send it east. then build settler.

General idiocy (see my title), consider whipping/buying (whatever the now correct terminology is) a 3rd tri to go sailing thru Harun's lands.

Optics is a priority, but not before we get some barb smashing tech. Put the boyos on boats and send them to smash. swords then optics?

In general, me thinks we should focus in the long term on commerce and gathering happy gas resources. With this map, we're not going to complete a lot of quests to bind the city states to us.

I'm less than enthralled with how GP work in this game. I haven't really explored a specialist economy (where the hell is Bede, <insert various curses here>), but I don't see the need to start using them now. Convince me. :crazyeye:

 didn't mean to go on a rant. sorry.

Sci specs provide a good boost to the early tech rate. Also the bulbing is crazy powerful (probably to powerful). Merchants are not particularly strong but the GMerc is good for city state diplomacy and rush buy/upgrade moves.

Never bothered wit the othe specs yet. Just don't seem worth it. Maybe when the next patch is out then engineers may be more handy.

Trade routes via harbours should be pretty profitable for us this game, but I guess we can ignore them and Compass till we have a few cities up that will turn a profit.

Was thinking Optics s we could get some settlers to nearby islands rather than whole scale barb smashing. Spears should be ok for the barbs ATM.

If we go Philo then I definately advocate food in the capital and running a couple of sci to sling CS.

I’m up and ready. We play for 20 turns, right? Oh my.

Turn 0.
Warrior went into woods to cover the whole south area. Purchased trireme - I agree on scouting, and we should get our money working.

Turn 1 (61).
Another SP is ready. Hm, if we are about to get another city, we should adopt something. Will think about it when settler is out.
Hero Trireme is battling with barbs, purchased one is sent west.

Turn 2 (62).
Harun offers Pact of Cooperation – I’m OK with that. Golden Age has dawned, hooray!
Still battling and sailing through Harun lands.

Turn 3 (63).
We found Budapest. Eh, let it be.

Turn 4 (64).
BW and third Trireme both ready. Started Settler and set Philosophy. Worker is sent to build river-side farm.

Turn 5 (65).
Sailing and exploring west, north and south.

Turn 6 (66).
Pyramids and Colossus were built somewhere somehow. Met Sidon, another militaristic CS.

Turn 7 (67).
East trireme sank Barb galley, still exploring.

Turn 8 (68).
We are sick, but sailing. Barbs, ruins, etc.

Turn 9 (69).
Finally, something new. Lhasa (cultured) is found, NW is found…

Turn 10 (70).
Another NW, and say hello to Egypt! Sad, but he is broke – no trade yet.

Turn 11 (71).
We encountered Rio – it’s our next best friend.

Turn 12 (72).
Met Askia (he is near Egypt) – sold him whales and cotton. We are rich again! Bribed Rio 500 gold and got food bonus – we are still quite rich.

Turn 13 (73).
Signed OB with Askia – it puzzles me how he is going to use it.

Turn 14 (74).
Hello, Brussels (cultured) and Aztecs.
London finishes settler, set it to gold focus and start a library. Settler is sent 1S of dyes.
Met Venice, not yet bribed it.

Turn 15 (75).
Exploring is almost finished – there are three unmet players left. Montezuma proposed OB – agreed, he also is going to conquer Brussels. GL!
Met Rome.

Turn 16 (76).
Montezuma wants to work together – OK.
The Earth is round, by the way. :D

Turn 17 (77).
Met Oslo, another maritime state.

Turn 18 (78).
Met Tyre, militaristic state.
Settler is ready to build a city, so it’s time to decide on our social policy. Also Philosophy is nearly done. I guess we should discuss what to do next, so I’m done.

I was actually only exploring, so I have tons of screenies, but won’t post them – they are just not that important, I guess. The world is big, and we have a lot of settling and diplomatic options. :)

And here comes the save, hope it's working.

Had a look at the save.

Tech Philo > Optics > Iron

Maybe buy the Libary or if we'd rather not waste the production already invested then work the mine.

Consentrate on Oslo and Venice as they are both Friendly.

When we get optics we should send a settler here ASAP.
Spoiler :

Its an ok poduction site. Esspecially post Seaports. Fish ahoy!

Would make a nice springboard to attack the Arabs....

If we us our SPs now then maybe Tradition > Legalism. I'd rather waiting untill the Mediveal to open Commerce.

@ Estarrioll

Do you want to take you last two turns before I post a got it? I don't mind waiting till you finish your 20.
