Dawn of the Middle Kingdom [DoC]

The Best Day Ever.

The war escalates with the capture of Reggio.
It of course, is burned to the ground, like Milan,
for it occupies too many tiles and increases the risk of an Italian respawn.
It has been discussed at length in the DoC forum,
but more so, it seems in the SVN version of DoC,
than in vanilla RFC, the AI disposition to found
extremely bad cities that are two tiles away from each other
or are simply 1 tile away from the coast is staggeringly common.

Unrelated to the war, but the Vikings finally collapse.
The only hand I had to play in that was voting for German seizures
of Viking territory and crippling their economy with Privateer blockades.
(Yet another incredible ironic twist; pirating and raiding Viking lands )

I build Brandenburg Gate.
I think it's 25% Great General emergence within my borders,
or something to that effect. It's actually really underwhelming.
Especially for civs like the Turks & Arabia, who can rack up 5-7
Great Generals easily without something like Brandenburg Gate.

Kiev splinters off from the incredible unstable but still alive Germany.
Who's going to recapture it? The Turks have a stack in position
but my vassals, the Russians, might have a good opportunity
to take it as well (hate FoW for vassal troops).
Actually, I'd like to take the time to make a suggestion.
Honestly? A master should be able to see the vassal's troops/stacks
anywhere they might be on the map.
It wouldn't really be a bad idea, it makes sense and it would
help with coordinated military maneuvers.
Barring Spies of course.

Excuse me for a minute.

Spy Games.

We incite rebel elements in the German state to
switch their form of government in a revolution.
If they switch back in another ten turns or so,
our agents will be there at the ready to make them switch back.
Incurring more and more permanent stability penalties.
Very useful way to destabilize your rivals,
and a great use of espionage should you be
ahead of them, technologically.

Rampaging through France proper itself,
Sea Ponies seize the French capital of Paris.
With no strong military on the continent,
there is no French city that is safe from the Chinese cavalry.
Fortunately for them, the hordes have been whittled
down in effectiveness and number throughout
the harrowing campaign and many Sea Ponies have to
be set aside for garrison duty.

We are beginning to experience some turbulence.
However, note the Economy benefit we get from
the Federal Reserve event.

We complete the Pentagon wonder.
Or as I like to call it, Free Vassalage.

Cherbourg too, is seized, but it's put the torch
for being built in an atrocious position.

In the Best Day Ever, can not see the picture above your Fluttershy .gif, what am I looking at exactly?

Ah, I see it now. Best event ever :).

Keep up the good and speedy work Dawn.

You Are A Cinema.

Firing up the start of today's update,
we complete the Forbidden Palace,
which has not really been changed from
it's original BtS incarnation, well,
with the exception of one minor change;
it requires Confucianism to be present
in the city which it is to be constructed in.

We were quite thoroughly beaten to Graceland
by the Ottoman Turks; they oblige to trading
one of their Hit Singles for one of our
Hit Football Events, however, so it's all good.
Look at how jolly Suleiman is! He's one of my favorite AIs

Hey Portugal.

I'm in your Brazil, eating your corn.

Want to take it back? What's that?
You don't have any cities?

That's a shame, I'll just have to make good use of this land, shouldn't I?

Napoleon is defeated.

Qin Shi Huang magnanimously spares him and admits France into the SCO
as the city of St. Louis is passed over into Chinese hands. With France and Italy
in the SCO, nearly all of Western Europe is under Chinese Domination.
Only Germany stands in defiance against the will of the Son of Heaven.

Stability update. Any questions this time?
Forbidden Palace helped out by reducing my Maintenance.

EDIT: China's score is almost past the top bar.

Suleiman has scary red eyes

Looks like the Forbidden Palace didn't show up in that cutscene. :p

Wow, I only now noticed super-Ethiopia.

The Last Congress.

A view of the homeland.
Now, I don't know about the rest of you,
but congress updates are a little tedious.
I'm glad that this the last one.

It's being hosted in Indonesia, apparently.

The Germans lose Scholtoi, adding to their list of problems.

I also help my vassal out.

Yeah, the Germans are going to feel it in the morning...

If they so foolishly want to take a foreign core, then by all means, I support it.

Napoleon's being a little belligrent here.

I'm not so much concerned that Spain didn't get the city they wanted,
as much as I'm concerned that it's not Isabella anymore :(

We hurt the Indians even more.

Eh, I didn't actually WANT Ireland, but I was hoping to get it to fill up a certain requirement...

I...misclicked.

And we are done; I can get to a more serious (or not) update soon now.

Nice so far. When does the detonation of nuclear weapons begin?

Mughals looking unstable!

Dawn could easily get UN victory with all of his vassals,.

Almost.

Look at poor Wien, getting choked from both sides by German & Ottoman culture.
The Mongols are having some kind of baby boom in this screenshot,
but more importantly, the Germans have recaptured independent Wilna,
which had splintered off from them earlier.

Our stability rises to new heights!

...That almost sounded like a cheesy Dynasty Warriors post-officer kill quote

But yeah, take a look at that Economy,
thanks to the Golden Age, I've almost surpasses 200+ Economy.

Bam! We're considered a Modern Civilization!
And we're the first ones to do it, too!
This reminds me of some good times playing China on Civilization: Revolution.
The +1 Population on city founding was amazing for China.
Different game though; but if I might talk about some suggestions in here;
I would say that the increased population with auto-buildings in DoC ought to be extended to all civs, and by era, as well, just like in Civilization: Revolution.

Currently, if you attempt to settle a city late in the game with say,
an early civilization like China, the population will only be 1.
For a Euro civ, it scales as time goes on, so I think it's only fair
and it shouldn't have too big of an effect on gameplay.

After manipulating European affairs for almost half a millennia,
I have to say that this one has to be my masterstroke.

I settle Loyang in this spot. To answer METY's question about Tuitan way back a couple updates ago,
I don't like settling in other civ's cores; I feel it's a dangerous course of action,
that I learned the hard way from playing vanilla RFC and occupying two cities on Japan.
The spot I settled is right outside Aztec's core, and is the best spot in that region to utilize the resources.

I finish teching Communism but I don't switch.
Ordinarily in vanilla RFC, yeah, I'm usually pretty excited to switch to Communism
as it's in almost all cases, the best option, but in DoC, democratic civics are far superior.
So yeah, if you're the America, F*** Yeah, American Exceptionalism type of guy, by all means,
DoC is the mod for you, where socialism and alternative forms of government
are mechanically inferior to democratic civics.
Main reason being the effect that it has on the Economy is too good to pass up.
And, that Corporations actually work, providing said bonuses.
