Also, a Yellow Ark of the Covenant on white background could fit for Aksum. And Zara Yaqob could get his colour scheme and icon from civ 4.

Yeah, that would probably be better, actually. I only picked the Freemasons symbol because they have the Masonic Lodge.

Question: don't you think the masonic lodge is... OP? Imagine building a trade post on a jungle tile, in city with masonic lodge. The tile will provide 2 food, 2 gold and 5 science. Also, If somebody uses CulDiv, free worker could be kinda... unfair.

I dunno but, would it make sense to have industrious elements next to natural elements in the icon? Like a train track and one of those really big South African trees. Or otherwise diamonds or even just the springbok. I mean mining was an important part of both the colony and Cecil Rhodes business. Also this picture which I think is pretty well known, regarding his ''Cape to Cairo'' idea:
