Do you use an Unofficial patch?

i can only use that or BUG (game crashes otherwise) and i just like BUG too much

I'm sure it's great, but unofficial just sounds so...unofficial... to me that I don't wanna use it. Plus, like the above poster said, I already use BUG and that slows my comp down enough!

I have unofficial and BUG installed in custom assets.

That way they don't conflict with MP or GOTM games.

I have BUG and HoF. I also don't like MP screwed up, but almost never use BUG and long abandoned the unofficial (though I have a version of betterAI lying around).

My problem with these things? Slowdown. They lag. Rather than 1-2 second intervals between turns, it's like 10. That's unacceptable, as time between turns is already a substantial issue for me...

Hmmm. And I thought maybe my computer was just getting old. Maybe I'll uninstall BUG and see if I can live without it, if it improves the time between turns.

I use the unofficial mod because it fixes a few issues. I do not need any other mods because it seems nonsense to me.

Oh, I do use ble marble 4.50, but that just makes the game look nicer without changing anything else at all.

BUG and the Unofficial Patch work great together; that's what I use. I wrote much of BUG, so take this with a grain of salt.

I have a pretty fast computer, but it's no monster. I haven't noticed any slowdown using BUG, and the only thing in BUG that should slow you down would be the Autolog feature. It logs everything happening to a file as it happens, and as that file grows, I could see it slowing down some. I'll give it a try later.

You can easily disable the Autolog, as you can any other BUG feature, using the ALT + CTRL + O options screen. Switch to the Logging tab and uncheck Enabled. You may need to restart Civ once to be sure it's off as I don't remember exactly how that code works (not mine).

Everything else in BUG happens only when you open advisor screens, so it shouldn't slow down in-between turns at all.

As for the Unofficial Patch, I don't see how that could slow down turns either. I've looked over the code and it is mostly small changes to existing checks. It doesn't alter the normal flow of the game, so it shouldn't add any more time.

I also use BUG and noticed no slowdown issues, and my computer used to be really crappy.

Don't use any of those unofficial patches though as I want to keep my multiplayer intact and convenient.

I have unofficial and BUG installed in custom assets.

BUG and other Python mods work fine in CustomAssets, but a DLL must either go in a mod's Assets folder or in the root BTS Assets folder, replacing the original, for it to work at all. If your UP DLL is in CustomAssets, it is being ignored.

You can test this by trying to promote a Tank with Barrage. If you can do it, you aren't using the UP.

I don't want to hijack this thread with "BUG is/isn't slow", so let's keep it on topic about the Unofficial Patch.

Feel free to start a new thread about that as it's really important to me that people enjoy using BUG and that it is as fast as possible. If anyone feels that their game runs slower with BUG, please PM me (or post in the BUG forum, see sig) a saved game that I can try out on my PC.

Hi

I use an official patch, not the latest one but the one before that (I think, I havent really been keeping up with the unofficial patch thread) and also the BAT 1.1 mod. The unofficial patch does fix a lot of problems I think. And BAT mod is just BUG mod with graphic enhancements--it tweaks what the units look like so each civs units look more different like zulu axemen and maces now look VERY diff from any other civs axes and maces. My ONLY quibbles with it BAT have been that they changed the default colors of some of the civs for some reasons like Russia is now green like the ottomans in the unmodded version of game and a cpl of other civs are diff colors too that and russian axemen looked SOOOOOO coolie in BAT1.0--guys wearing bear hats and huge giant swords--but now they look kind of bleh--but those are just MINOR quibbles. Now dont get me wrong if they EVER change how they do japanese axemen (in the mod they look like ninjas which is AWESOME) I WILL kick up a fuss and even pout if I have to :p --but all in all it makes the game look 100000 times better.

And BUG mod is just SOOOO handy--even if you dont want eyecandy of BAT mod I HIGHLY reccomend BUG mod features. Like the initials BUG (Beyond the sword Unaltered Gameplay) imply it DOESNT make any changes to game play it just takes a LOT of the game information and makes it more convenient to get at it. All information you COULD figure out through game on your own without it since all the info is there you just wont need to dig for it or need to do calculations in your head or keep notes or things like that -- BUG mod does all that work for you.

I havent really noticed speed issues using them. I mean I DO have speed issues with game slowing down at times especially on BIG maps but thats more graphic issues. Like using high detailed terrain, unit animations, things like that that would cause issues even without those mods. So if you are having speed issues maybe fiddling with things like that could help. I know for me turning off high detailed terrain would make things a lil faster but I just like the eye candy too much so I leave it on :p. Its like the review xplay said about it once-its the pretty graphics that help make us forget we are essentially just playing a spreadsheet hehe.

BUG + Unofficial patch. Thanks to EmperorFool for helping me set it up as a mod
:goodjob:

I am using one of the SVN releases of BUG which has a built in dot map generator which is just the dogs *#($&

bug+betterAI (which includes the unofficial patch as well) as a mod

Have multiple shortcuts on my desktop, for SP, MP and MP-Mod play. Just put -mod="mods/Modname in your shortcut path (inside the quotes). Avoids the loading of the game, selecting mod and reloading hassle.

Unofficial 3.17 because it fixes several things, and while it probably introduces bugs too, I've never noticed any myself.

As of last week running BetterAI too, and my own mod. Might also consider getting BUG but I'm not sure if it's worth the hassle.

I use HOF-Mod, not that I've played a gauntlet in a while. I really like the stuff that's bundled in it though, like Civ4lerts, Specialist Stacker and the regenerate map hotkey (can't live without that one lol! I hate capitols with tonnes of ocean tiles and I play Archi maps a lot).

BuG (as a mod) with BetterAI folded in is pretty easy (instructions are over in the BetterAI forum).
