Anyone want to share what they liked about the game?
I am amazed at the number of people who announce that the game is in some way worthless to them because of opening day bugs. They can’t see a gem through a little bit of dirt. Any of you hear about the opening day of Disneyland? There were a few bugs to be worked out, but people didn’t give up on it.
How about this, I’ll just put in one a few of the bugs and complaints I’m reading. Then... we can move on. Please, share what you like about the game.
Here are a few of the bugs:
Weak AI. Ships start at the bottom of the map. At times the map is hard to see. No disbanding colonies.
And, here are a few lost game concepts:
Custom house. Vet. Soldiers in the field become Continental Soldiers. Natives asking for food. The king volunteering you to fight his wars. Intervention of other European powers in the Revolution.
Does any of that ruin the game for me? Am I quitting? NO!
And then there are just dumb complaints:
1. The game is too short.
Well, then move the little slider over to “marathon.” It works like that – you get to choose the length of the game. Don’t play on normal if you want a long game.
2. Natives run out of gold too fast.
Well, probably because they haven’t been in the market for long building up a big economy based on the kings gold. Just guessing on this one.
3. The REF size should not be connected to liberty bell production.
Come on. Why do you think the king builds that massive army? He’s scared as calls for independence ring, so he responds.
4. The tutorial should have warned us to keep liberty bell production down.
Seriously? For the game to be fun, the programmers have to tell us exactly what the computer is basing its decisions on? Good to know, but there is no reason to complain that it’s not in a book or a tutorial.
5. The interface is not user friendly.
Neither is a keyboard. Just keep practicing: ASDF, ASDF, ASDF someday you’ll learn to type.
6. The map shouldn’t be curved.
When you sink that low to complain, it’s really not worth answering.
7. The map is too small.
This isn’t civ. Just a few colonies.
8. There are too many natives.
That was also Andrew Jacksons view.
9. I’ve sunk xxx hours into playing this game and it sucks.
As if the number of hours you put into the game makes you more of an expert in determining if it is fun or not. Am I really supposed to feel for someone who thinks they have wasted their time playing the game, but are now giving their time to complaining about the game? If your time was wasted, quit thinking about it and move on. See a shrink, get over it!
10. Colonization 1 was a better game.
So go play it.
I like this game. Though strangely titled, the game is exactly what it was advertized: A blend of Colonization concepts and civilization engine.
So, having heard everyone complain for a week about what a bad game it is... anyone want to share why they like the game?
